Marian Hossa registered a natural hat trick and goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 46 saves as the visiting Atlanta Thrashers thumped the Red Wings 5-1 Tuesday night.

The loss is the third straight (0-2-1) for the slumping Red Wings, which have only lost three games in a row one other time this season.

The Thrashers started fast in the game with Hossa scoring two of his three goals in the first period to stake Atlanta to a 2-0 lead. On the first goal, Hossa cut in front of the net and sent a quick shot inside the far post for a power-play goal at 7:33. Hossa made it 2-0 at 14:22 when his took advantage of a stumbling Brett Lebda and beat Chris Osgood with a quick shot.

Hossa completed the hat trick effort with another power play goal just 74 seconds into the second period, and the rout was on. Eric Perron added Atlanta's third power play goal at 7:28 to push the bulge to 4-0. The goal signaled the end of the night for Osgood, who has struggled in his last two starts since signing a three-year deal with the club last week, with just 13 saves on 17 shots.

The Thrashers' power-play abused the Red Wings all night, finishing an impressive 3-for-4 while holding Detroit to 0-for-2.

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall spoiled the shutout bid at 13:42 of the third period with his fourth goal of the season.

Former Red Wing Slava Kozlov closed out the scoring by beating Dominik Hasek with his 15th goal of the season. Hasek stopped seven of eight shots.

Right wing Dallas Drake didn't play because of a sore right knee he injured in Saturday's game in Ottawa. Aaron Downey replaced him in the lineup.
