Henrik Zetterberg's 30th goal of the season was all Detroit needed in a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Friday night in Joe Louis Arena.
Detroit, which has now won six straight games, got a 14-save shutout performance from goaltender Dominik Hasek. The shutout was the 80th of Hasek's NHL career.
The Avalanche received a standout performance in net from embattled neminder Pater Budaj, who turned aside 34 of 35 shots and was especially impressive during a Detroit 5-on-3 in the first period and during stretches of the third period when the Red Wings swarmed the Colorado net.
Colorado appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead late in the second period, but the goal was disallowed due to contact with the goaltender. Reviews showed that defenseman Brett Lebda helped push defenseman Scott Hannan into the crease and into Hasek.
The only chink in Budaj's otherwise perfect game came with 2:20 remaining in regulation when Zetterberg took the puck out from behind the Colorado net and sent a quick shot on net from the edge of the crease. The puck deflected off a Colorado defenseman's stick and found its way past Budaj to give Detroit a 1-0 lead late.
Kris Draper added an empty-net goal with 13 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
