The Red Wings received a dose of good news on Thursday when MRI results on injured defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom's right MCL revealed no tearing. The sprained ligament will require three weeks of recovery. Lidstrom is also scheduled to have a second neurological baseline test next week to determine if he suffered a concussion in Monday's Avalanche game.
“Very relieved it wasn’t a tear or anything more major than what it is now,” Lidstrom told George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press. “At least that’s good."
In other injury news, Brian Rafalski won't play tomorrow in Calgary and indications are that Niklas Kronwall is close to returning from a sprained clavicle but he will likely be held out of Friday's game. A return Saturday night in Vancouver or Tuesday in Edmonton seems more likely.
Even if Kronwall is able to play Friday head coach Mike Babcock said hulking 6'5" 225lb. defenseman Jonathon Ericsson would be making his NHL debut this weekend.
