The Red Wings got a goal late in the second period from Pavel Datsyuk that broke a 1-1 tie and Johan Franzen iced the game in the final minute of regulation as Detroit won its fourth in a row with a 3-1 defeat of the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night. The victory re-established the Red Wings double-digit points lead in the race for the Presidents Trophy.
The Red Wings scored the first goal of the game in the opening period when Dallas Drake -- playing in his 1,000th career NHL game -- earned his 300th career assist with a centering feed to Kirk Maltby for a goal at 8:34.
Chicago wasted little time in tying the game back up when Rene Bourque scored just over two minutes later on a rebound.
Following a Chris Osgood save on a penalty shot opportunity by Robert Lang at the midway point of the game, Datsyuk broke the tie when he capitalized on a Chicago giveaway to snap a shot that deflected off defenseman Brent Seabrook and past rookie netminder Corey Crawford for his 26th of the season.
Crawford, who shut out the Anaheim Ducks in his last start, was outstanding throughout the game as Detroit outshot the Blackhawks 47-20. Crawford made 44 saves, several of the spectacular variety.
Osgood stopped 19 shots in his first appearance in five games.
