The Red Wings will be without former Selke Trophy-winner Kris Draper tonight as the club faces off against the Dallas Stars for the final time in the regular season. Draper, who had an ultrasound that discovered a slight tear in his groin muscle, will miss the team's next three games. Goaltender Jimmy Howard has been recalled to replace Dominik Hasek, who will not dress tonight, and Darren Helm will replace Draper.
The game marks the NHL debut for Helm, a speedy winger the Red Wings selected with their fifth pick (132nd overall) in the 2005 Draft. Helm has been a standout forward for the Griffins this year as a rookie, using his blazing speed and two-way play to amass 24 points in 59 games so far this season.
Hasek has been nursing a sore back since suffering the injury against Nashville on Sunday. Howard, who impressed during his last call-up last month when Hasek was down with a hip flexor inflammation, has just an 0-2-0 record but boasts a sparkling .926 save-percentage and 2.13 goals-against average.
In other injury news, Darren McCarty (ribs) participated in his first practice with the club, reports Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News.
