MLive.com's Ansar Kahn reports today that the Red Wings will be without defensemen Brad Stuart for the remainder of the regular season -- and possibly the start of the playoffs -- due to a non-displaced fracture in one of his fingers.
Stuart, who was acquired at the trade deadline for 2nd- and 4th-round draft picks, suffered the injury late in the third period last night while blocking a shot.
Team officials told Ted Kulfan that the injury typically takes 3-6 weeks to heal. The Stanley Cup playoffs open in three weeks.
The defenseman, who had a goal and an assist in nine games, joins a growing list of Red Wings suffering from injuries. Valtteri Filppula will miss his second consecutive game tonight with a groin injury. He's joined by Kris Draper (groin), Tomas Holmstrom (abdomenal strain) and Dan Cleary (broken jaw), though all three of those players could be available by Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Blues.
Darren McCarty (ribs), who has been on the Red Wings' roster since March 10th, may not see any game action until the final two or three games of the regular season and is doubtful to get a spot in the lineup once the Stanley Cup Playoffs start on April 9th.
