Johan Franzen broke a 3-3 tie 7:45 into the third period and Pavel Datsyuk iced the game with two more as the Red Wings defeated the Predators 6-3 in Nashville Thursday night. Datsyuk's goals gave him 30 on the season -- the second time he has reached the mark in his NHL career (2003-04 was the other).
The Red Wings fell behind 1-0 in the first period when Alexander Radulov's shot deflected off Niklas Kronwall's skate and off Dominik Hasek at 3:11 left in the frame.
Detroit jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second period behind the strength of three goals from the club's blueline. Kronwall tied the game just 55 seconds into the second period when his shot eluded the glove of goaltender Dan Ellis. Chris Chelios gave Detroit a 2-1 lead 4:15 into the period with his third goal of the season.
Brian Rafalski closed out Detroit's second period scoring with his 12 goal (power-play) at 7:45.
The Predators capitalized on the momentum gained by killing off an extended 5-on-3 Detroit power play to start the third period when Radulov scored his second of the game 2:17 into the period. Martin Erat tied the game 3-3 when his shot from the top of the right faceoff circle found its way though a crowd and past Hasek at 4:35.
Frazen snapped the tie three minutes later on a fantastic individual effort when he circled out of the left corner and snapped a quick shot that beat Chris Mason -- bought in for Ellis following Detroit's second goal -- underneath his arm.
Datsyuk gave Detroit a 5-3 lead on a breakaway at 14:54 and added an empty net tally 19:06.
Hasek was strong in net, despite the three goals, and stopped 26 of 29 shots. Ellis turned aside 11 of 13, Mason stopped 19 of 22.
