Forward Tomas Holmstrom (groin/abdomen) is scheduled for an ultrasound or MRI in Detroit today following a setback that occured during Monday's practice. Red Wings color analyst Mickey Redmond mentioned in an interview with WRIF (101.1FM) Wednesday morning that Detroit management is quietly concerned that Holmstrom may be suffering from a sports hernia, as the injury is in the "upper groin" area and has been slow to respond to treatment.
Holmstrom had previously hoped to return on Friday, but GM Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press that he's concerned Holmstrom won't be able to return to the lineup prior to the start of the playoffs on April 10th.
