As if there were any doubt? Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was officially named as one of the three finalists for the Norris Trophy, given out annually to the player voted as the NHL's top defenseman. Lidstrom is the runaway favorite for the award this season following another stellar regular season campaign in which he led all defensemen with 70 points and a +40 rating that trailed only teammate Pavel Datsyuk overall.
Lidstrom has won the Norris five times -- a total behind only to Doug Harvey and Bobby Orr. A win this season would put Lidstrom in sole possession of 3rd, ahead of Ray Bourque who also has won five.
