Avs' Smyth out for Game 3

While the Colorado Avalanche hope to get forward Peter Forsberg back on the ice tonight, another forward is being "put on ice", so to speak: Ryan Smyth. Smyth was limping around noticably after Saturday's Game 2 after blocking a shot and has been ruled out of tonight's game. Defenseman Scott Hannan, who missed Game 2 with a similar injury, is likely to play despite a noticable gait after the morning skate.

Forsberg is probable for tonight's game, reports Bruce MacLeod of the Macomb Daily. Forsberg has been the target of the Denver media since Game 2 and it has been hard to judge exactly how well his groin injury is progressing. Forsberg replied to media inquiries about how the groin felt with a sardonic "fabulous" while Colorado head coach Joel Quennville stated that Forsberg "looked good". Other practice observations have indicated that Forsberg is still showing signs of limitations on the ice when he has practiced.

As for the Red Wings, no news is good news. Henrik Zetterberg and Nicklas Lidstrom rested instead of taking part in the optional skate this morning. No lineup changes are expected.
