Heralded Swede phenom Fabian Brunnstrom will spend the next couple of days being wooed by the Red Wings, reports Bruce MacLeod of the Macomb Daily. Brunnstrom, who was picked up at a Denver airport today by GM Ken Holland, had spend the last two days spending time with the Dallas Stars as part of his tour of NHL clubs that are interested in signing the 23-year old.
MacLeod notes that Holland said the Red Wings are offering the rookie max (both salary and bonuses) to Brunnstrom. The club is working out whether or not the current CBA allows the Brunnstrom to fly on the Red Wings' private plane when the club leaves Denver after tonight's Game 4 in Denver.
Brunnstrom's next stop is rumored to be Montreal. Toronto, rumored to be the one of the final choices, may also be on the list. The forward will spend Friday in Detroit to get a tour of team facilities and meet with management.
Head coach Mike Babcock had the best quote on why Brunnstrom should choose the Red Wings: "It's so obvious it isn't even funny. Just move into Novi, little Sweden, hang out like it's the old country. I can't even understand why anyone else is in the running. It makes no sense to me whatsoever. All they (Swedes) do is come here, they're comfortable, they play better than they ever have in their life."
