The Red Wings received some positive news regarding forward Johan Franzen this morning as the club's leading playoff goal-scorer has been cleared to resume off-ice workouts. It's the first step toward returning to the lineup for Franzen, who has been restricted from any physical activity since exhibiting symptoms of post-concussion syndrome after Game 1 of the Conference Finals last week.
The Red Wings hope to have Franzen back for the Stanley Cup Finals should Detroit finish off the Dallas Stars after taking a commanding 3-0 series lead following 2-1 and 5-2 victories in Games 2 and 3, respectively.
Tests earlier this week did not reveal any surprises and the club has not classified Franzen with a concussion. Franzen, according to reports, has not suffered from dizziness or other calling-cards of post-concussion syndrome but has had re-occuring and intensifying headaches since he started suffering from them early in the series against the Colorado Avalanche.
No timetable has been set for Franzen's return but he may progress to on-ice workouts if his off-ice workouts (stationary bike, etc.) proceed without any relapse.
