Dallas Drake scored a goal and added an assist as the Detroit Red Wings raced to a 3-0 first period lead en route to a 4-1 victory in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. The Red Wings move on to face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals starting Saturday night in Joe Louis Arena.
The Red Wings came out strong to start the game in front of a raucous Dallas crowd that was quickly quieted by Kris Draper's goal just 3:45 into the game. Drake's centering pass deflected off the chin of Draper and past goaltender Marty Turco. Detroit took a 2-0 lead nearly 12 minutes into the opening period when Pavel Datsyuk scored on a power play. Drake made it 3-0 five minutes later following a quick pass from defenseman Brett Lebda.Detroit outshot Dallas 13-6 over the opening 20 minutes.
The rout was on in the second period following Henrik Zetterberg's penalty-shot style shorthanded tally 3:11 into the frame. The shorthanded goal was the second of the series for Zetterberg and his 11th of the playoffs.
Stephane Robidas's power-play goal 2:27 into the third period spoiled Chris Osgood's shutout bid. Osgood was outstanding in the third period before a last-gasp effort from the Stars. Dallas outshot Detroit 16-7 in the final period in a effort to prolong their season.
