So yeah, congrats are in order to the Ducks for winning the Cup. They've got a nice core of young guys who've already established themselves as prime time NHLers. And I think they showed that size doze matter in the end or at least that it doesn't hurt to be bigger than the next guy in most cases.

Getzlaf 22 6-3, 211

Perry 22 6-3, 202

Penner 24 6-4, 243 signed as a free agent (how'd everyone miss this guy)

Kunitz 27 5-11, 198 singed as a free agent

Moen 25 6-2, 216

Beauchemin 27 6-0, 210

Next Up

Bobby Ryan 20 6-1, 213

If the Wings do anything this offseason I hope they get bigger

How about the Wings getting more Canadians

Our weak assed Euro's didn't do to badly against the Flames and Sharks. :P

I don't care where Wings player's come from as long as they give 100% that's fine with me.

(this is a bit :violin: )

Frankly I care. This new nhl sucks are we all know our team is much more new nhl than any other team, and I pine for the good old days of Probert and Kocur and I pine for the days when we were the perenial bad asses of the league. Averaging a fight almost every 8 games simply isnt good enough and we know somwhere Probert and Kocur are disgusted at what at we are now, heck even Shanny probably has lost a ton of respect for us.

we need a bit of :boxing: in out team not :hippie:

Yeah, if only we could've won more fights we might've beaten the Ducks. Seeing as how fighting was such an integral part of their win over us. Let's see, Markov fought Thornton at a draw and what else.............................................oh yeah, they're weren't any more fights. And the Ducks had zero fights against the Sens I think.

I know what you mean about having a couple of tough guy's in the team . but this team didn't do to shabby against two of the toughest team in the NHL . As I said in an earlier post with a little upgade in size and we'll be good to go , and it doesn't matter where the tough guy's come from as long as they do their job.

Markov slightly lost.... and im just saying we might have won more on the road THROUGHOUT the season if we get people to stick up for our smaller guys.

And IM blaming the new nhl for these no fights, im just saying more teams should stay more traditional, I can only echo Don Cherrys words but frankly cba, you all know what he said.

As far as size is concerned, I'd be happy with simply retaining Bertuzzi. We have guys that can handle themselves; Chelios, Schneider, Franzen, Lilja, Kopecky, Cleary....even Datsyuk and Zetterberg got a little feisty during the playoffs... I don't want a roster spot taken from a player with skill for a player that is only good at fighting.....

Booooo I want a fighter :( Well I want a fighter who is at least above average at everything else... dont exist much these days, probably ******* Bettmans new nhl to thank for that!

Even my local team (Blackburn Hawks) in the English Hockey League managed 17 fights this season...

I disagree! I for one enjoy watching a talented team Vs. a goon team. And I believe a HUGE number of people feel the same way, look at the televised ratings, the SCF were down 20%. There is no market for dirty goon hockey.

Wings can and will win with talent. And we played with the Big Bad Sharks....! And outplayed the Ducks!

I'm more concerned with the leagues officiating and Bettman being an unfair ******* to market hockey where nobody even cares!

Yeh but due to the state of the nhl no-one dared to play "goon" hockey in the play-offs. It would have made it more entertaining.

Still I suppose youd rather see a penalty being called every 2 minutes thana fight every game, which is fine if you wanna ignore the traditions of hockey, and your idea of a physical game is everyone crashing the net or an intense stare-down face off

I agree , the Wings were unlucky this season with the team they've got . Anyway I hope I never see the Wings lowering themself to be a bunch of cheapshotting thugs. Toughness is alway's good to have in the team , but there's a difference between toughness and cheating.

Maybe instead of swapping our current boys for new ones, we could get the Wings to hire my wife as a nutrition specialist. She seems to get bigger every year :P

lol

Size is only part of the equation; these big guys need to have the ability to play the game ie skate, passing, shooting, playing D etc etc...The last thing we need is a team full of Derian Hatchers.

big guys that can t skate sounds like the flyers

I really don't think it has anything to do with being a "goon" team...Taking the Ducks as the obvious example..They threw their weight around, played physical, intimidating hockey and imposed their will on other teams...Absolutely the Wings have talent, boatloads of it..But do they have the desire, drive or true grit it takes to stand up for each other in the physical/fighting department....

When Pronger plastered Holmstroms face into the boards, someone needed to go out on the NEXT SHIFT and kick his ass....And I don't mean just swinging their purse at him.(Old time hockey....Like Eddie Shore) .You've got to send the message"You're not going pull that crap with my teamate" For me a prime example of that was watching Colton Orr drop Todd Fedoruk after Fedoruk gave the business to Jagr the previous game...It's not about fighting for the sake of fighting for me..This "my tough guy will fight your tough guy" is a bunch of crap...I really do miss the days when if your player roughed up my star player, my tough guy is going after you..NOT YOUR FIGHTER, BUT YOU....It's about sending a message...God I love Nick Fotiu
