Matt 1,048 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 Just finished the draft and I can't believe some of the guys that were available to me. What do you guys think? QB: Matt Leinart, J.P. Losman RB: Frank Gore, Brandon Jacobs, Edgerrin James, Marion Barber III, Warrick Dunn WR: Andre Johnson, Lee Evans, Donte Stallworth, Bernard Berrian TE: Vernon Davis D/ST: Carolina Panthers K: Matt Stover ------------------------------ I drafted from the No. 5 spot: 1. (5) Frank Gore RB 2. (20) Brandon Jacobs RB 3. (29) Edgerrin James RB 4. (44) Andre Johnson WR 5. (53) Lee Evans WR 6. (68) Vernon Davis TE 7. (77) Marion Barber III RB 8. (92) Matt Leinart QB 9. (101) Donte' Stallworth WR 10. (116) J.P. Losman QB 11. (125) Bernard Berrian WR 12. (140) Carolina DEF 13. (149) Matt Stover K 14. (164) Warrick Dunn RB ---------------------------- If there were a couple of things I could improve upon it's at QB and then depth behind Davis at TE. With Edgerrin and solid WRs available in Rounds 3-5 (and a TE run coming at 6) I couldn't pass them up. I think Leinart at 92nd overall is good value and I just missed out on backing him up with Alex Smith two picks prior to Losman at 116. Was looking at Randy McMichael at TE later, too, but he was scooped up a couple of picks before so I shifted focus to filling my last two positions. Thoughts? GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 I think you did very well in the draft Matt. You are extremely deep at running back. I can't believe you got Marion Barber at pick 77. Barber led the NFC in touchdowns last season. I took him in the fourth round in my league, and I thought I was lucky to get him there. You might want to use some of your depth at running back to make a deal for a solid receiver, since Johnson and Evans aren't exactly the most consistent performers. I really like the Vernon Davis selection. With the 49ers lack of depth at wide receiver, Davis will probably end up being Smith's go-to-guy in the red zone. I'm not crazy about Losman at QB, but other than that, your team looks pretty darn good to me, especially at running back. Good Luck!
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 (edited) I think you did very well. I thought I did pretty well. People gasped when I took Gates in the third but he really qualifies as a tier 1 reciever. I think there were definitly some strange pick up's but we will see. This is the first league I have ever done that is not individual defensive players. I am excited. 1. Larry Johnson 2. carson Palmer 3. Antonio Gates 4. Carnell Williams 5. Hines Ward 6. Darrell Jackson 7. San Diego Def 8. Tatum Bell 9. Terry Glenn 10. Chester Taylor 11. Trent Green 12. Eddie Kenninson 13. Neil Rackers 14. Matt Jones I think I struggle a bit in WR. But overall I am pretty satisfied. Matt when does the Hockey leagues get kicked off? Gowings1905 I love the Avatar. Go Irish!!!! SuperCalaFilppulastic! 34 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 I really enjoyed this draft because it was so unpredictable. I completely pulled away from my strategy after the 1st round. Ninth pick overall is kind of a middle of nowhere pick - so I did my best. Plus, I didn't realize there was only 2 WR spots (I've only played with 3 spots before)). I'm weak at RB, but I figure I can flip CJ, Holt, or Fitz and something for a nice number 2 RB eventually. QB - Philip Rivers RB - Laurence Maroney RB - Marshawn Lynch WR - Chad Johnson WR - Torry Holt TE - Jason Witten K - Robbie Gould D - Minnesota Bench: Larry Fitzgerald, D.J. Hackett, DeAngelo Williams, LaMont Jordan, Leon Washington, Matt Schaub ---------------- 1. (9) Laurence Maroney 2. (16) Chad Johnson 3. (33) Torry Holt 4. (40) Larry Fitzgerald 5. (57) Philip Rivers 6. (64) Marshawn Lynch 7. (81) DeAngelo Williams 8. (88) Jason Witten 9. (105) D.J. Hackett 10. (112) LaMont Jordan 11. (129) Leon Washington 12. (136) Robbie Gould 13. (153) Minnesota 14. (160) Matt Schaub 1. Larry Johnson 2. carson Palmer 3. Antonio Gates I liked your first 3 picks - they're top tier guys at their positions. If you could have nabbed another top end WR instead of Cadillac (I have my doubts with him) - I think it would have been a good case of how to win in a league WITHOUT relying on RB. But your team is solid.
Matt 1,048 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 You might want to use some of your depth at running back to make a deal for a solid receiver, since Johnson and Evans aren't exactly the most consistent performers. I don't think I would call the duo of Johnson and Evans inconsistent (both 1200yd receivers last season) I hope the addition of Schaub in Houston helps up Johnson's lackluster TD total last season. Evans I think is coming into his own and will benefit greatly if Losman builds on his strong finish to last season. As for the running back depth -- yep, there was a reason I stockpiled it. I fullly intend to deal off a bit of that access in an effort to land another marquee WR or top-tier QB if the opportunity presents itself. Matt when does the Hockey leagues get kicked off? Pretty soon. The league is actually already set up but I'm waiting on Sportsline for the "pay league". If it takes much longer I'll just scrap that one there and have a 2nd Yahoo one. I'm not sure why SportsLine waits until so close to training camp before opening registration.

I was actually debating taking him or Duece but I think Reggie is gonna run the show where he is and Cadillac is the starter.
