Heads Up - NO JOE VISION TOMORROW!

Sounds interesting, how many attend to it?

Guess it's better atmosphere sitting around fellow fans cheering together for your team rather than watching it at home on HDTV... :) I would be happy with both options though ;)

I've never been so I wouldn't know how many attend it. But they shoot the flames from the scoreboard for the goals and do the pre-game montages and stuff.

It's just a different atmosphere.

It was about 10,000 when my wife went to one in 02.

If I had CBC HD i would watch CBC, but I get the basic CBC which has a horrid picture. I enjoy watching the game in HD television...so, sorry.

NBC is a ridiculous money grubbing business though.

I'm with ya on this one. Damn CBC needs to come out with a HD channel over here. I'm sure there ratings would go up. Although I don't know if I could handle Don Cherry in HD. :scared:

I think this is an incredibly stupid decision on NBC's part.

I will be watching the game on CBC despite the less-than-HD signal we get in Detroit.

Their coverage of the game is SO much better, we don't have to suffer with Paul Harvey, I mean Doc Emerick and the Homer Edzo, Pierre the Q-tip and their constant slant toward the other team.

Not to mention I watch the game on NBC and they are always cutting away when something happens and they never show what happened until after they come back from commercial, or a promo for some other show. Cover the freakin' GAME.

Yes, you would most likely be blinded by Don Cherry's suit.

Well, for those of us who don't live where the CBC can be viewed, NBC is our only option. Wings fans don't just live in Detroit, you know.

I know, I meant for this option only if you are in a CBC viewing area.

NBC is *NOT* your only option for the postseason no matter where you are. If you don't have CBC, cbcsports.ca streams HNIC live. Though AFAIK you can't get the stream in HD, unlike TV ratings which are dependant on having a Nielsen box site hits can be counted by everyone who logs on, hence you will be boosting CBC's ratings at the expense of NBCs. If you aren't Canadian you need to set up a proxy in order to view it, but this is a very simple process (I use Firefox, if you use a different browser this might be slightly different for you):

-search around for a proxy list. http://www.samair.ru/proxy/ is the one I generally use when I need one

-browse for a Canadian IP. Usually you can search for them by country. You'll get a series of five numbers divided by periods and colons. This is just to watch a stream so a transparent proxy will do just fine, you can use a more secure one if you want though. For example I picked up 67.69.254.253:80

-go to tools -> options -> advanced. Under 'Connections', click 'Advanced'

-select 'manual proxy settings' and under 'HTTP Proxy' drop in your numbers. Under 'port', put in the numbers after the colon. In this example, you'll have [67.69.254.253] as your proxy and [80] for your port.

-click OK and you should be good to go!

Sometimes online performance can be a bit fussy, you might need to plug in a few different IPs to find one that works the way you want. Whatever the case, since chances are there's a fair distance between you and the IPs location online performance is always going to be a bit slow, but as far as the internet is concerned you'll be in Canada. When you're done watching, go back to your Connection settings and select 'autodetect proxy settings' and you'll be back on your old connection. Easy peasy.

My letter to NBC.

To whom it may concern,

Today I learned that the Detroit Red Wings and Joe Louis Arena will not be allowed to hold an annual playoff tradition. This tradition is Joe Vision where away Detroit Red Wings playoff games are shown on the big screen over the ice so that thousands of fans can come and enjoy the game with each other. This annual tradition would be held tomorrow night for Game #6 of the Stanley Cup Finals where the Red Wings have a chance to clinch the Stanley Cup. However, NBC has decided to deny Joe Louis Arena and the Detroit Red Wings the viewing rights for the game.

Due to this decision by NBC, Joe Vision will not be held. Not only is NBC destroying a playoff tradition but they are denying funds to a charity. All proceeds of the Joe Vision events benefit the Detroit Red Wings Foundation.

Also, not every fan is able to travel hundreds of miles and purchase tickets to an away game that can cost $700-$1000 to view their team have a chance at becoming Stanley Cup Champions.

It is unfortunate that NBC does not understand hockey fans and their long standing traditions. It seems to me that NBC is more worried about ratings and advertising revenues than the actual viewers who make it possible for NBC to be successful. As I understand, NBC has made a similar decision that will not allow the Pittsburgh Penguins to set up a large outdoor screen for their fans to view the game outside of Mellon Arena. However, the Versus network allowed the Pittsburgh Penguins to show their broadcast on the large outdoor screen for Game #3 and Game #4.

Due to this abysmal decision by NBC, I will be viewing Game #6 of the Stanley Cup Finals and any other game that may occur in the Stanley Cup Finals on CBC. Also, as a result of this decision, I am forced to avoid NBC all together. It is extremely unfortunate that NBC has made the decision to outcast hundreds of thousands of hockey fans that would have otherwise attended events like Joe Vision.

Respectfully,

A disgruntled Red Wings fan and former NBC viewer.
