QUOTE (GMRwings1983 @ February 21, 2008 - 06:09PM) When and whom did he fight? I'm pretty sure that was "fought for us" in the not literal, "got into a fight" sense.

QUOTE (esteef @ February 21, 2008 - 05:57PM) Wasn't there a quote somewhere that teams were going to use the waiver wire purposfully for trades, etc.? If so, maybe this means something from LA soon?
esteef I enjoy your presence on these boards esteef, thanks for that point. It just seems to be so clear to me that the Ellis thing wasn't just to "make space for the new guys". Wasn't he the captain of the Griffins when he played there? Even if he doesn't have much upside, you don't let a leader walk away from your organization like that. And hearing that Wings scouts went to a Blues/Kings game right after hearing rumors about Stuart coming to Detroit, it just seems too likely to me. Holland said himself that his priority is getting a defenseman at the deadline. Fits like pieces of a puzzle to me.

QUOTE (Turkey @ February 21, 2008 - 03:50PM) I think relating this to McCarty is premature at best. Mac is still out of shape and not fast enough. Babs says we'll sign him but he also says he's only playing for the Wings if he proves he's capable. I recall a certain Russian in training camp who received the same message and never cracked the lineup. The same could happen to Mac. The difference is that I think Mac would stick it out in GR rather than just bailing were that to happen. Babcock also said that the speed of the AHL is slower than what he would see in the NHL. McCarty still isnt really in shape yet, and 1 or 2 games won't get him a speedy promotion. They may sign him, but he'll still be there for a while and will be subject to evaluation before being called up.

QUOTE (SnipeShow @ February 21, 2008 - 06:25PM) I'm pretty sure Ellis is part of a package going to LA, think about it. Why would Detroit waive him? LA doesn't want to pay his entire salary so Detroit waives him knowing that LA gets first crack at picking him up... Holland and Lombardi had worked this out earlier, I'm almost positive. I guess we will just have to wait and see I guess if you look at it that way, but Ellis is only making 475K, which is the absolute league minimum in terms of salary. I don't really see how Ellis' salary would have been a sticking point for LA to want him. But, on the other hand, I guess your scenario makes sense. Hopefully this is the first step to getting Brad Stuart here in Detroit.

And I don't see why people are surprised Ellis was taken, I would have been surprised had he not been taken to be honest. He is a hard worker, and there are plenty of teams that could use his work ethic as example.

QUOTE (Canadian Wings @ February 21, 2008 - 05:37PM) Highly unlikely, as well as illegal. Show me the rule where this is illeagal? This is definitely a possibility - not a probability, but a possibility, yes. Kenny is a genius and I wouldn't put it past him.

you heard it here first. ^^ This can't actually happen this season! I want to make that clear before half the board starts thinking it could be the case.

All of a sudden I am excited about this pick up. I wasn't sure who Ellis was, but the consensus is that you guys are going to miss him.
After the Kings walloped the Blues last night, the Kings commentators mentioned that Ellis was picked up as a "bigger" option to some of our other energy guys. Playoffs here we come!! OK, maybe not.

I really can't say I cared about Ellis, to be honest. :|
Not that he's particularly bad, but I just don't really see any potential in him. Like someone said the Griffins will miss him, but not the wings.
