Jonathan Roy faces assault charge
Jamessss and one other reacted to cjm502 for a post in a topic
McCarty had a reason to fight. Do I have to go over this again? Basically, Lemieux knew McCarty was out there. Lemieux broke Drapers face with a cheap shot. Lemieux did not even have the balls to apologize. Lemieux knew McCarty wanted revenge, he was even running his mouth at him earlier that game. Lemieux saw McCarty skate at him. Lemieux was not new to fighting, he had done it many times before. In the Roy case it is completely different. Not even comparable. Go ahead, defend that ******. Im pretty sure I have got my point across. If I have not why even bother debating with you? -

Who's going to replace Lidstrom for next season
Hockeymom1960 reacted to newfy for a post in a topic
Tatar is 19 and had a decent season in the AHL, Doughty at 20 already has een nominated for the Norris for god's sake. You guys are saying we shpuldn't give up Smith or Tatar for Doughty, thats jst dumb. Smith is older then Doughtyand hasn't even been in the AHL, Tatar is projecting to be a speedy Hudler and proably a 70 point guy. Doughty younger then Smith hasa norris nomination and an Olympic gold medal to his name. Its not like we're trading the farm away for a 30 year old, this is a guy who is the same age but has potential to e the est defenseman of his generation. I can't believe you wouldn't give up Tatar or Smith for him. It is much easier to find 70 point guys like Tatar in free agency then it is to find the soon to be est defenseman in the NHL. -

Who's going to replace Lidstrom for next season
Hockeymom1960 reacted to newfy for a post in a topic
I might get flamed for this but I think Doughty will be a defenseman that will be damn close to Lidstrom's level when he hits his prime. The kid has enormous potential. Barring any injuries he may go down as one of the all time greats, hes that good. Even if he isn't as good as Lidstrom in his prime, he will be by far the best defenseman of his era and will be capable of playing like Lidstrom has the last few years. Weber is a legit number one defenseman and will also be very good but hes not the same level as doughty I don't think. If we could get either guy I would be ecstatic. Chara is a good 3 or so year option until Holland can figure something else out to get us a number 1 guy. I would trade Mule plus 2 first rounders for Doughty, anyone think thats too much? -

Who's going to replace Lidstrom for next season
RedWingedKitten reacted to Drake_Marcus for a post in a topic
Don't underestimate Lidstrom's impact. There simply isn't a defenseman in the NHL right now who can dominate like Lidstrom did in his prime years. It's impossible to replace a player who's consistently mentioned as being one of the top 2 or 3 players to play his position in the history of the game (and I can't believe anyone would rank him lower than 2nd, only Bobby Orr consistently dominated his position more thoroughly than Lidstrom). -

Hawks trade Reasoner to Panthers for Jeff Taffe
HankthaTank reacted to Superman54 for a post in a topic
I would be biased too, this is the rivalled Blackhawks we are talking about, the fans who constantly chant "redwings suck". I don't need to do this insane rant for why i believe Hawks may sink or instead be ok. and rather just simply state "hey hawks, your f***ed". It's all a part of being a fan, who doesn't show homerism? How high of an IQ you think all those Hawks fans chanting "redwings suck" have, when technically a semi finals in 2007, a Stanley in 08, goal away for potential Stanley in 09, and a fair outing in 10, would say otherwise. But you think hawk fans could give a f***? -

Well I'm not too sure who "Abdelkater" is, but I don't think Justin Abdelkader is going anywhere either. -

I have a friend who can't have a twitter, facebook, myspace, anything because of her job, which is not unusual. So for Bissonnette to have been forced to take his down twitter would not be unusual, although it might be unfortunate. -
1 pointArbitration is just a way of settling contract disputes for RFA's. It's not a special type of contract. A player whose contract was agreed to after arbitration is no different to any other player whose contract was not. Arbitration just gives the two sides a number. So unless they agree to a contract with a NTC, yes they can trade him. The only thing I can think of that may have confused you is offer sheets. A player signed on a matched offer sheet can't be traded for a year I think.
-
1 pointMight need to fix this one up a touch for you.
-
1 pointIt would be far from Bowman's first choice. If someone gives him an offer sheet next off-season, it could well be worth a first-, second- and third-round pick to the Hawks. Maybe even two first and the others. Sharp is a bigger cap hit, for two seasons, after which he'll become a UFA and they'll get zero in lieu of his absence. Plus, Bowman being the son of his father, I'm sure he believes in building from defense. With this in mind, IMO it makes much more sense to move Sharp than Seabrook.
-
1 pointIf they go with Huet they'll have to lose Sharp anyway.

Jonathan Roy faces assault charge
Din758 gave a reaction for a post in a topic
I'm pretty shure that was Dave Brown's kid. Roy's wife got around. In my head I hear this being said in Ricky's voice from Trailer Park Boys. -
1 pointi cant believe people are in here even defending roy, what he did isnt fighting and isnt a part of hockey.
-
1 pointErrrr....yes you did. From the first of your posts in this thread: "Was the other goalie's last name "Ghandi"? Who on earth just stands there, gear on, hands at your sides when you have 30 seconds notice that another man wants to fight you? I can't see anything that Roy did that was terribly wrong here." That's good you stand by your opinion, because if you didn't, then no one else would. To call this a "simple on-ice fight" is completely asinine. Why? My parents did raise me to do that exact thing, and I am now a third degree black-belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu thank you very much. I was raised not to fight under any circumstance, but I was taught to defend myself. I can garauntee my parents are substantially more intellectual than your parents, so by your standards if my parents are dumb, what does that make your parents. To bring family into this is completely uncalled for and I hope you never do it again as it only detracts from any argument you may have with your ad hominem. Again, this is a huge fallacy! Using an A-Typical sample size to support your conclusion is not a good thing to do. Plus, this is a horrible analogy as well. It amazes me you can liken a hockey fight in Junior A to real life outside of hockey. I can cite hundreds of examples throughout history where a historical icon shied away from confrontations and didn't get eaten alive. Just because this goalie didn't defend himself on the ice, doesn't mean he shies away from moral injustices. Without going into much detail both my parents had a hard life growing up and they never once defended themselves in a physical fight and now guess what, they are more successful than 90%+ of any sampling of people you can find (monetary and quality of life). I had zero intention of responding to this, but after you brought up my parents I really had no choice to do so. You better think twice before you know who you are getting into things with as this goes for Roy Jr. and yourself. Have a good day.

1 pointI can't say that I agree with charges being brought up so long after the fact. Roy (father and son) are crazy. We've known that for a while. What hasn't been mentioned in this thread is that from another camera angle you can see Patrick egging his son on to fight. When your dad will probably beat you at home if you don't fight, I don't know how much I can blame the son. Throw them both out of hockey, end of story.
-
1 pointI think Roy should be punished, but not by the courts. I hate it when the courts (of either the US or Canada) get involved. Suspension? Yes. Legal wrangling? No. Hopefully he gets kicked out of hockey and ends up as a cabbie in Buffalo.
