its kinda funny that our 3rd line at the start of last season was Leino, Filppula, Williams... and this year it is Hudler, Modano, Cleary... so weve basically replaced Leino and Williams with Modano and Hudler! thats an INCREDIBLE improvement... yes I know Leino was good for Philly after he left here but he was absolutely HORRIBLE when he was here so this is a drastic improvement be about it...

    Why sign a sixth Dman?

I don't understand why people would want the Wings to sign a sixth Dman. Janik has already proven that he can hang with the team and do well. Why not bounce Janik, Meech and Kindl in and out of the lineup until the deadline? Seems like it would be much better for the team if they gave some of the youngsters some experience and see how it's going at the deadline. Maybe we can use the money to swing some deals and get some picks. It's not like a bottom defense pairing is gonna make or break our season. Unless we get wrecked by injuries again... then god help us.

    Lets talk third line now

I'm extremely optimistic about our forwards. It's like we have 8-9 Top 6ers, and 12 top 9ers. I'm not really expecting too much in the way of individual performances since there is only so much Ice time to go around, but imo we easily have the best forward crop if they can stay healthy. I'm just concerned about our defense staying healthy and playing to it's potential. Hopefully Kronwall can stay healthy for a season.

    Mike Modano signs with Detroit

Holland would never go for that... ...they serve Miller and Molson at the Joe.

Are you ever gonna stop hating around here? At least my complaints deal with the Wings, and not attacking other posters all the time like you do. You really need to take care of your anger management issues instead of telling me what I should post. Sutton isn't someone we need to skate well. He'd be here for different reasons, which you obviously can't fathom with your limited knowledge of hockey. You're the biggest whiner on LGW by consistently calling out posters who want to sign tougher players for reasons we think would benefit the team. Your post was just a bad attempt to attack me instead of saying anything bad about Sutton's game that actually makes sense. As for his salary, the money we'll pay to Modano or Maltby or whatever other lower line players (not Helm) that we've signed or will sign, could have been better served by paying a player like Sutton.

    Why sign a sixth Dman?

I think that is the way you kinda have to look at it... If you look at Ericsson's production and play the last month of the season and into the playoff's alongside of Lilja instead of bouncing around on D pairings, it speaks volumes about what that presence can do for him... keep in mind, this is only his 2nd year in the NHL and really only like his 5th year even playing D - there are going to be some growing pains, but the potential is there and he is only 25, it's WAY too early to make a projection on what he will be... and, not by the same details(or background) but with the same projection, there's no way to know what Kindl will be either and BOTH have shown that they do much better with a steadying presence (and both are known to have defensive mental lapses) Janik, although a GREAT depth guy, is what he is - a 6/7/8/fringe NHL d-man who is solid defensively and has a mean streak, but has never shown more and at 30, is pretty much what he will be for his career... I want to see Kindl and Ericsson given every opportunity to show what they have this year, but I want them to be able to do it favorable situation, to see what they can really be - and that means paired with a solid, shut down, NHL proven d-man Realistically, Smith SHOULD be at least 2 years away... and if things play out and everyone develops as they should, next year, when Nick hangs them up (apocalypse) either Ericsson or Kindl move into top 4 next year, while the other fills the bottom pairing and in 2 years when Rafalski hangs them up, whomever was in the number 4 spot moves into the number 2 spot, 6 spot to 4 and Smith to 6 - and if any one of them outplays the other, shift around, all the while, having Kronwall as your num 1, Stuart your 3 and your 5 being that vet or other FA... it actually plays itself out perfect this way... they just have to develop and if they don't... then we go write a huge check in FA and get someone to replace Nick next year and we start entertaining moving forward without the one who didn't develop as they should..... just my 2 cents...

This is seriously the biggest relief in my summer. Best offseason in a while waaaaaay better than last years offseason. especially watching the hawks get tor down, that s*** was just great!

I'd rather have them make the playoffs as the 8 seed, and us sweep them in the most dominating series in years. Game 4 at the UC should be an absolute joke, with Turco getting pulled after the 9th goal and demanding a trade.

Hull: Cheli will give you endless bowls of chili. Modano: That is a very enticing proposal. Cheli: Hully said what???

A third pair defenseman is more important than a 3rd line forward. They usually get more icetime than 3rd line forwards, especially since teams dress half as many D-men than forwards. Your post greatly diminished the importance of a 3rd pair defenseman and overrated the role someone like Modano will play, when we have plenty of other guys who have shown they can play on the 3rd line, like say Helm who'll be demoted to the 4th line now. And my post wasn't just specific to Sutton. I was talking more about a physical defenseman who's big and can move bodies from the crease. Doesn't have to be Sutton necessarily, or someone who makes $2 million a year. It's just an blank that needs to be filled.

It'll be great. Excited to see Dano make all the haters STFU, Hudler to prove he is still a solid NHLer, and Modano to prove he's still got it. On top of the best 3rd line, do we not have a very strong 4th line now too? Eaves-Helm-Abdelkader is fast, gritty, has some edge, and some scoring touch too.

    Corey Perry

Yeah just like Draper and Maltby but I'm sure you cheered for them back in 1997 and 1998, I know the hate on this board is huge for Perry especially because we have a bit of a mini rivalry with the Ducks, but come on, Chely was a hell of a lot dirtier then Perry, was on our division rivals and was twice as hated as Perry. Who really hates Chelios now though? Its always different when the players aren't trash talking your own team and until that happens I know people will say I'm wrong but this guy outscored anyone on our team this year.. I'm sure we would cheer for a guy leading our team in goals

    Corey Perry

Yeah just like Maltby and Samuellson were hated around the league. Perry isn't out there throwing cheap hits like Cooke does, he just runs his mouth and acts like a ***** sometimes. Maltby in his prime was way worst and Maltby never backed it up. Perry will fight every now and then t least. Say what you want but if we had a guy like Perry who threw the other team off their game while putting up 80 points, we would love him here

    Mike Modano signs with Detroit

well you guys might be seeing more of me this season on LGW I am disappointed in the stars but I will still support Mo's decision and hope for the best. I sure hope not, what he has done for our franchise can't be overlooked. Modano helped make hockey viable in Dallas and built this franchise. If he is I will be ashamed to be a Stars fan.

Eveeryone says how much they would hate Perry just like they would hate Chelios etc. Bottom line is if Perry came here and had an 80 point season he would be loved, just like Chelios was after a while here. Sammuelson and Maltby both played the same way Perry does almost too a tee, except Perry will score 80 points and have a couple fights while doing it. I seriously doubt he would be hated after a season here.

Sutton signs 2-year deal with Ducks

Every single time there is a tough player, I think its funny how youre the one that finds something to complain about.. Reaally Sutton can't skate? Well the ret of the NHL must really suck then if a guy who can't skate at all is capable of constantly hammering guys and being the biggest hitter in the league. Also Sutton is acapable defender, much better then a bottom pairing guy

if you want a decent bitrate mp3 of the song instead of a ringtone or muddy youtube version, i could rip the 1997 playoff cd for you and send it to your email addy. hit me up at detroit40oz@hotmail.com and ive got you i could send the whole cd (4 tracks) or just the hey hey hockeytown track. the songs on it are: 1.) kid rock's "no party like a detroit party" intro 2.) get up (the arena version, which isnt actually the kiss version but some detroit dudes covering it) 3.) hey hey hockeytown 4.) american/canadian national anthem live by karen newman

I'm glad we didn't sign him. We don't need a big, physical defenseman that can clear the crease. We're already awesome at that, as we showed in the playoffs last year. What we really need is a 40 year old winger to play on our "Grind Line" and an almost 40 year old winger who should have retired several years ago when he stopped becoming useful to us.
