Give me a break. He didn't charge from the other end of the ice, and its not like he smashed his face into the boards from behind. The fact that this hit is even being discussed as possibly suspension-worthy is ridiculous.

Yeah topic involves hockey, site involves hockey, so technically going by your logic as long as it's hockey related it can be posted in any thread because it's "on topic". So staying on topic, let's bring up the 1960 stanley cup finals, because it involves hockey just like this thread does. Here's your cue to mention Holland "failing" to get Parise because he wanted to play in his home state instead Wtf is Kenny's problem he should have moved the entire franchise to Minnesota to insure they DECIDED to come play here, or held their families hostage at gunpoint and forced them to come play here. So sorry for questioning you, your credibility is phenomenal. Coming back to reality, the thread has nothing to do with opinions on Holland, the decisions of Suter and Parise to play for Minnesota, it's a thread about a trade that the OP believes should make with Winnipeg. Your comment was completely off topic, but apparently excuses will be made for you to continue to make stabs at this team and it's management. While we're at it, I think i'll bring up Chewbacca, because he follows around Han Solo in Star Wars, as Luke Skywalker uses a blue lightsaber, and blue is the color of Winnipeg's jerseys, so that's gotta be on topic also. Let's get into a heated wookie discussion people.

I'm fine with Mule not fighting but he certainly needs to finish his checks which he frequently does not. And people like fighting in hockey because it's exciting. esteef

Holmstrom retired today, the last of the dynasty, its time for a new beginning...but this organization refuses to change. That is why you will see the same old crap at the Joe and the same junky music and the same type of players....its over, the dynasty is over, let go. I am sure Budd wouldn't mind, nor his family. Time to stop talking about history and tradition, what did it get us last summer, no UFA's of significance, no players who mean anything want to come here anymore....Detroit has worn out its welcome in the NHL and yet they still keep going back to the same well....let it go....Hey dude, my grandfather was a war hero too, he is dead, I let him go, I don't go around playing tapes of him talking...life goes on..time to move on from Budd, Karen, Stanley the Octopus and Hey Hey Hockeytown...

You know what your absolutely right, while we're at it lets get rid of all the championship banners and un-retire everybody's numbers, especially the guys that played in the 50's cuz that was 2 dynasties ago and thats kind of embarrassing. And make sure we cancel the ceremony we are going to have for Lidstrom next year cuz it's all about the new era. Thanks for opening my mind.

Wouldn't have worked with Suter anyway. He wanted to play with Parise and Holland couldn't afford both without significantly dismantling the team. I love how everyon thinks Holland was supposed to have some grand scheme for when Lidstrom and Stuart left. He can't stock pile top 4 dmen in GR, so he had limited options: 1. Pursue the limited UFA's available, which he did. Didn't work, there are 29 other teams in the league they get to choose from. You can't win them all. If you can't get over it, put Suter on the Red Wings in a season on NHl13. 2. Try to shore up the bluline with a trade or two. He did. Unfortunately it was for Quincey, but John Edwards wasn't able to let Holland know that Quincey as going to blow it after the trade. 3. Fill the holes with cheaper UFA's and give some of the dmen on the team a chance to step up. He again, took this option. Colaiacovo and Huskins are both reliable NHL dmen that came for cheap. He's also giving guys like Smith, Kindl, Ericsson and now Lashoff to step up their play into a bigger role. The approach worked for the Red Wings offense in 06-07, who to say it can't for the D this year?

The only reason that we had the money to talk to Parise and Suter was because we had players on lower level contracts. If you want elite players, some of your other players will be of the quality of those you listed. In your ideal world (I assume) none of those players would be here and we'd have Parise and Suter. But then who fills those remaining roster spots? Parise and Suter are two players. The people who would fill the other roster spots would be B-level players such as the very players you listed. So what this really is, is that Holland set his roster up with the expectation of landing the two big fish. Your argument about that dead weight is really just re-hashing the same criticism that's seemingly never-ending here: that we couldn't land Parise and Suter.

I happen to agree with you regarding Samuelsson and Bertuzzi's contracts. There was definitely no reason to give Samuelsson a NTC. In my opinion, it was idiotic to give Bertuzzi that second year. Quincey has been a big failure this far. Overpayment. However, PARISE AND SUTER WENT TO MINNESOTA FOR FAMILY. THEY WEREN'T COMING HERE ANYWAY. Neither of them are worth the idiotic contracts that Minnesota gave them. Yikes. Holland has made stupid moves, but overpaying for either of these overrated pansies would've been majorly stupid moves. Also, players like Tootoo are desperately needed here. He's basically our only source of snarl and constant physicality up front. In my opinion, more players that play a similar style to his are needed. I already explained the Huskins situation to you, but you never directly replied.

I understand why some people have a problem with the suspension, but they need to get over it and understand that you can't hit like that. It really isn't that difficult to avoid. The video even acknowledges that players will leave their feet sometimes on natural follow through, but he clearly went airborn long before contact. If the shoulder went into his chest, it would simply be a 2 minute minor for charging. Since it made contact with the head, it's a suspension. Simple as that really.

What should've Ken done in that situation? I am a big critic of Ken, but every single move he makes doesn't warrant whining. Huskins played well last night. Hell, better than that dolt Quincey, who we're paying $3 million/year.My point is, I don't see why the Huskins deal is anything to cry about. It's not like Ken was gonna get Dan Girardi here for $750,000.

I don't see why it's such a bad move. The Wings were lacking in depth on d and added a NHL defenseman... I know you want to see Almquist become the next Lidstrom but geez give him time. While you wait play some more seasons on NHL13.

talk about a drop in contract cap... good for him, and great god - what a steal for Sharks. even if it's one year the guy should be poised to prove everybody wrong. unless he pulls a.... mmmm... Scott Gomez... and scores 2 goals the entire season

I'd like to see something like Tatar + Emmerton + 2nd rounder for Gormley. Bogosian would cost us something like Filppula + Tatar + Kindl/Quincey.

Idiots saying the same tired bulls*** Franzen and Cleary are the only wings players crashing the net. Franzen isn't a great stick handler so he isn't going to be controlling the puck a lot in the offensive zone. Flippula is supposed to be our stick handler on that line and he just gets bullied to the outside every time with the puck. I love the guy and he works hard but Franzen is a much more effective player with our roster the way it is in this first 3 games

He's also taking on a role where he's going to be abused. He'd better learn to take it and get up. That's one thing I think we took for granted with Homer. We knew he took abuse but we took for granted the fact he'd get up as fast as he could, he could keep him balance pretty damn well and wouldn't sulk or float in his job.

This is literally the only argument I ever see in favor of Mule. I am just going to call it beaten spouse syndrome. We're acting like his on paper stats outweight his on-ice negatives when they really, really do not. Laying on the ice, turning it over, floating, that cancels out some math-whiz goal vs salary BS. Sorry but it does.

We finally get a guy who fights, hits like a maniac, will protect Datsyuk and Zetterberg no matter the size of the guy going after them, can skate, pass and shoot, and now here we are. People actually complaining about this player because Babs didn't play him more? Babs has had a barely two weeks to work with Tootoo, and it's the second game of the year. Of course he'll play guys like Miller and Abby more, he trusts those guys because he knows them better. Give him time, if by game 20 your still hating on Tootoo or questioning what he brings to the team... well I'm not sure what i'll tell ya, because I'll all but guarantee he'll be a fan favorite soon enough.

Have you stopped and compared Colaiacovo and Quincey's numbers to Wiz?? Pretty much the same. White is the only one that has a bit of the suck factor. One day we need Numbers...the next day we need a roughneck as you put it..... hahahaha go on compare a "good" player as you call wiz to our current d men.

    Bettman threatens Edmonton.

The world needs more Bill Davidsons. Detroit can't or won't do what's needed for the Pistons so he just says "f*** it, I'll build my own arena in Auburn Hills." No taxpayers money, no bonds, just his cash. Opened in 88' and is still a great place to watch an event.
