    Brunner Contract Talks

Brunner wants $3-3.5m (depending on the source) and a top-six role, neither of which he is going to get from the Wings. Also, given that Quincey is signed for only one more season, carries an affordable cap hit, and is a serviceable defenseman, and given that, having bought out Colaiacovo, there is currently nobody available to replace him, unloading him would be stupid.

Wings vs East 2011-2012: 10-7-1 2010-2011: 12-4-2 2009-2010: 9-6-3 2008-2009: 12-5-1 If this means anything then i have no worries about the eastern conference

Plus he is by his family. And you can't put a price on that.

    Any new Helm Updates?

No. Actually it is two people but there is a spelling error on the roster. I'm here in TC, and I saw it too. Funny - they were born a month and a half apart, both play goalie and both here at the same time. The only Chelios I've seen is Dean. My friend George Malik said that Jake is at Chicago's camp doing pretty much the same thing his brother's doing here.

Can't help but like that guy. Beats plunging toilets for a living. All the best to him.

    2013 HHoF Inductees

I was not nearly as into hockey back then as I am now, but I remember watching that moment on TV and liking him for that patently smartassed display.

Blues hire Conklin as development coach

For a couple years he was among the best backups in the league. Too bad it didn't work out the second time around.

    Smith files for arbitration

From what I've seen, I'm one of the bigger Smith supporters here. And at that, if Smith was signed to that deal I would probably throw my laptop out the fourth-storey window currently in front of me.

This came up on my Twitter page: @espn: Hey @SanJoseSharks, thoughts on changing your name to the San Jose #Sharknados? @SanJoseSharks: Hey @espn, thoughts on showing more hockey highlights?

    Bergeron gets 8 yr extension

Bergeron is the heart and soul of that team. Chara is the leader, Thornton as well is a vet leader. Bergeron is the identity of the team though, his defense first approach is exactly what Julien preaches, he is probably Claude's ideal forward. His post season play was spectacular, he deserves all of this especially playing through the punctured lung! He will be 36 when the contract ends, he is in his prime, has been with the team since he was 18. I am not a fan of 8 year deals, but if their is a max contract player in that group of forwards it is Patrice. IMO

Same expectations as every year, playoffs and at least the second round. That would be good, a great year would be ECF. Anything after ECF is gravy and I cannot complain! I have always maintained that conference finals in any sport is a fantastic year for the teams I root for!

    Ilya Kovalchuk announces retirement

Yea Capgeek has it at 250K, which is almost negligible in the long term. When he retires they won't have to pay him anything so for a team that was not financially well off, this is probably best... but holy crap they are gonna suck. If people didn't watch the devils at all they wouldn't realize how much kovalchuk actually does and how valuable he actually is. Hard to really contemplate this in its totality at the moment.

    Smith files for arbitration

Because he played terrible during that 1/2 season. You could say the same thing about Dekeyser, only he played even fewer games. You know what the difference is? One of them didn't make several boneheaded mistakes each game, while failing to live up to the one thing that got them to the NHL in the first place. Brendan Smith was awful, defensively (which I don't care about as much because it was always a given that he'd need to improve there) AND offensively (which is a worse sin since he was supposedly an offensive defenseman). I'm sure he'll improve. But you can't whitewash the truth. Yes he was a rookie, so is every player at one time or another. But not every rookie sucks doorknobs.

I'm not too worried. It seems like our euro scouts have vastly outperformed our NA scouts.

    The Overreaction Thread

Holland has helped Ilitch earn loads of money. If you hadn't noticed, postseason performances bring in quite a bit of dough. And by just about every metric out there, Holland is the best GM of the past 15 years.
