    Brunner Contract Talks

It makes me ill that Nyquist isn't signed yet because they "might want to bring Dan Cleary back". Consider yourselves lucky that you didn't sign him, realize you are OVER the cap, not overpay for a shell of what he once was (which wasn't that awesome to start with) and MOVE ON. Nyquist can do nothing but grow. He is exciting to watch and he makes things happen. Cleary is getting worse and makes things happen for the other team, sadly. And don't show me his stats from last year. Half of those I'm sure were deflections off various body parts.

You can stop being ill, then, because the article doesn't say that. It says that in addition to Nyquist, the Wings would like to sign Cleary. To quote: There you go.

Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean it is without validity or merit. His first point was that there are retired jerseys of Wings players who played on other teams. He's correct. If you restrict it to modern era then as you pointed out the two examples in Lidstrom and Yzerman played their entire career in Detroit. As far as I know though, there is not any official or even unofficial standard or one that's been spoken of by the organization. The two last players worthy of jersey retirement played their entire career in Detroit. That doesn't make it a rule.

Yeah, who needs him and his goal scoring on a team that tied for 19th in "goals per game" last year. Good riddance indeed.

So the team that finally broke the '05 CBA (by signing the first Kovalchuk deal), and then put the first crack in the 2013 CBA (by having Kovy retire and getting out of the 2nd Kovalchuk deal), doesn't even have enough money to pay their salaries? I had heard grumblings that New Jersey was in rough shape financially, but this is pathetic. For a team that's had the caliber of players they've had in the last 25 years, won multiple cups, and is in a metorpolitan area that should draw a ton of hockey interest, you have to be pretty dysfunctional to not make that work. At least when Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas, Nashville, etc. have money problems, people can look at that and go "yeah, I can see how that makes sense".

Anytime that there is even a debate whether someone's number should be retired I feel like they shouldn't be up.

I agree Shanny was great and I was pleasantly surprised at how seamlessly he fit in here right away, but I think the bar is set pretty damn high for sweaters in the rafters and he just doesn't quite make it.

Buying First Wings Sweater - Advice wanted

Smith will be our captain after Z. I would get his jersey if I were to choose one today.

Posted this one of me a couple years ago but is now a dead link and a lot of you probably know me better by now. I'm far right with the Yzerman jersey, grizzly looking guy in the middle is my buddy Matt and I think we all know who that man on the left is. This was taken late 2011, this is right in front of the doors to the Wings locker room.
