Look who's top in GR scoring

Dirty Harry scored his team leading 14th goal for the Griffins last night and seems to be making a strong case for a job on the Wings next season. He has cut down on his pims considerably and has actually shown the coaches he can play as well as agitate. A fourth line of Sheahan Tootoo and Callahan looks an intriguing one which may just happen.

Not only do I log onto LGW at least once per day and have never heard Callahan referred to as Dirty Harry, but LGW isn't meant to cater exclusively to hardcore forum posters. Nicknames are supposed to make it easier to discuss the team, not to prove how funny and clever you are. Making up nicknames that no one else uses is obnoxious and unnecessary. Watch... It looks like Yellow Mustard is going to miss some time after catching that elbow last night against the Sabres. Its really bad timing too, because our defense already thin with Big Poppa out with a concussion and Bandit serving his 5 game suspension. I would say this forces us to call up someone from GR, most likely Billy the Kid or The Player Formerly Known As Steve. We might be in trouble on the back end until we get some regulars back, since this leaves the Boogeyman as our #1 defenseman. And you know what that means!!!! Yes, but I still think it's unfair that he gets to use a .44 Magnum. I think it gives him an unfair advantage on the ice. No goalie is going to stop that shot. Well, maybe Hasek ... with his teeth!

    Pissed off: JJ speaking out

Bingo I don't care so much about the Richards not batting for him stuff... As JJ I'd expect him to put a good word in for me... but when it comes down to it Richards has to help put the best team together, and if there's a better option than his own JJ, well, that's how the cookie crumbles.

Is it sad that all I can ever think of when it comes to the NHL vs the NBA is this?

So you're saying just because JJ is playing for Richards (after all it was GM decision to trade for JJ) he must choose him over those who he thinks would be better to team USA? It is not how it works.

This is actually good news, the NHL is seeing growing support regardless of the lockout problems. Maybe if more players were outspoken and threw their fingers in the cameras screaming they were number one it would gain more popularity and be on par with the NBA but I prefer having humble players with a reasonable amount of sportsmanship over a bunch of cocky showboats like the NBA is filled with. It's a team sport and the NHL seems to understand that for the most part, there are a lot more individuals that like to make it known that it's "all them" and enjoy talking about themselves over the team effort to gain more of the spotlight.

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2014/01/08/olympic-team-snub-frustrates-johnson.html I fully support and understand him, if my *own* coach isn't willing to go bot bat for me, I would be having a hard time giving my all and more for him. Seriously, Jack Johnson was traded to the BLue Jackets, came in with a positive attitude and that's the kind of "thanks" he is getting from Richards ? Man if my personal coach would tell others I'm not good enough I would be changing him immediately. Richards should kiss his .... thanks to players like JJ he is still having a job, yeah the guy [JJ] may not have the best season, but he is still miles better than the likes of Faulk. So how about backing him up and helping him out instead of basically throwing him under the bus ? I'm starting to wonder, if team USA should change their braintrust, I think some of them can't spell the word "classy" it just isn't in their vocabulary.

I agree that they should have told him he was cut instead of letting him find out through TV, but nothing entitles him to be on this team. Maybe if he worked harder he would be on the team right now. There's no one to blame but himself.

I guess I missed the part where Johnson was entitled to be on the Olympic team because he meets the only two qualifications necessary A) be American, and B) be Jack Johnson. Is it his birthright? He's an offensive d-man who isn't scoring, and who's never been good EVER defensively. Johnson isn't even a competent defenseman in the NHL and in the Olympics he'd be up against All-Star teams. No Dan Cleary's or Patrick Eaves' in Sochi. Finally, it's not like he's the only offensive d-man that didn't make the cut. Yandle, Bfuglien, and Erik Johnson are all having better seasons than JJ, and none of them made it. But you don't see them complaining in the news, Jack's the only that didn't make it and made a big deal about it.

Was about to post a thread about this, this morning. I don't know why he is consistently overlooked. The guy is tough, works hard, and has an eye for the net. IMO I'de have him on the wings before your generic soft grinder (eaves, glendenning, emmerton, etc) any day. He has adapted his game for the wings, and has more dimension on a fourth line than any of the previously mentioned guys! Sheahan and Ferraro have under achieved compared to what many expected out of them, when they were drafted, Cally has done nothing but work his ass off and improve every year. He's not an enforcer by any means, but isn't afraid of anyone, and can also put the puck in the net. He deserves a shot. also, although +/- can be deceptive, Mitch is a plus 13.

Yeah man, you should just read the forums more if you don't know everybody's nicknames. Or you could have just looked at the stats for the Griffins...

Just shut up and play harder, he's only 26, he will get another shot at it, it's not like he's an all star though. He's not bad, but he is by no means Shea weber or zdeno chara, he is a decent top 4 guy, he wouldn't be the guy that puts his Olympic team "over the top"

It is a very good roster but their defense to me doesn't seem to be that good, especially compared to the very good Canadian one. Would have prefered Hedman or Murray over Oduya. In the coming 4 years let's hope Nyquist is going to play his way onto that way.

Everyone wants to get with his wife. Probably for the best. Can you imagine what'd happen if he were to singlehandedly submarine Team Canada? I'd fear for his life.

Exactly. I don't want the game to change just to attract more fans.

I legitimately feel like one of the worst snubs aside from Giroux was Hudler. Him being a legend aside, he's tearing it up in Calgary with 35 points this year, and he's happy huddles! Who wouldn't want that face representing their country? And I mean seriously, Petr Nedved makes it?

I know hockey will never be a major sport because of the cost of entry and the geographic nature of it, but I never understood why it never garnered the same attention that gets thrown at the NBA. For at least the last ten years it seems to be as successful business-wise, and as popular, yet hockey almost never gets mentioned on sports radio. And when it does, it gets dismissed as a joke most of the time or the host admits he knows nothing about it. It's great to know that the NHL is a success, but I'd like to see more mainstream acceptance. It'll never be NFL of course, but the NHL deserves at least as much attention as the NBA.

I felt let down. I didn't feel like we got to know much about our players, I wanted to hear Pasha's wisdom, and I agree with the other posters- too much shots of them skating in slow mo... we have enough slow mo skating from Bertuzzi and Cleary.

    Datsyuk vs. Zetterberg

Simple: All things considered, who's the better player. Knee jerk is obviously Datsyuk because of his skill level, but I've been thinking about it and conclude that Zetterberg is the better player. Skill alone doesn't make one better. Their points per game are nearly the same, very slight edge to Datsyuk. Both are extremely good defensively. Datsyuk has the hardware and the takeaways but in my opinion Zetterberg gets the tougher defensive matchups as evidenced by his shutting down Crosby in the finals in 08 and 09, and doing the same to Toews last season. Datsyuk is the better passer while Z is the better goal scorer, though neither are too shabby in either department. Both makes their linemates better. Z is (in my opinion) more versatile, able to play both center and the wing with equal aplomb. Dats hasn't ever shown much from the wing. Finally, intangibles. Zetterberg ALWAYS rises to the occasion, scoring key goals when it matters and is a playoff beast. Dats is by no means bad in the playoffs, but Z is a monster. Also, Z seems to have the ability to carry the team on his back for extended periods and generally relishes the role. Finally, Z's got the leadership capacity in spades. Dats leads by example, Z in every way possible. So, your thoughts?
