Holland has made up his mind...he just made a decision you don't like. He's not going all in to win right now, he's banking on the prospects keeping us contenders long term. Whether he's right or not only time will tell. Personally I think this is the worst draft in years to trade up in..I'd rather trade down or trade away the 1st round pick. Buffalo has 3, 2nd round picks I'd rather get them if we're looking to deal. It would be utter insanity. Ekblad may not even be the first defenceman taken in this draft, or the one with the most successful career. If he's lucky he'll become a top pairing defenceman, but he's far from a Franchise player.

"Possible" franchise player for our Captain? There have been plenty of 1st overall picks that didn't turn out to be what we thought they would. I'll keep Z thank you.

Franzen would enjoy playing in Florida. Hopefully, their scouts haven't seen a Wings game since 2010.

You can never have too many two way players. Spezza would make our second line better offensively, but lets not forget there were only 4 forwards in the league with worse +/- numbers. He's not the cure to any of the Wings problems.

I disagree he has decent size IIRC. And is a short term answer at 2c until we see if Weiss will be and a long term answer at 1c once dat retires. Dickie, I hear what you're saying but I would never make that trade, even after expressing my love for Jamie Benn. I would bet any amount of money that the 5 pieces you would trade to Dallas would end up being the better package then the Benn brothers. Yes, I'm well aware that Mantha could become a 40-50 point player at the NHL level, but I would bet he will come closer to a 70-80 point player, which is basically what Benn is / will be. And I guarantee the combination of both Smith and Sproul (if not each of them) will be much better NHL players then Jordie Benn. Then you add in another promising prospect and a first rounder. NO WAY you make that trade... EVER! By the way, terrible analogy, not the same situation at all. It would be more like someone having two briefcases, telling you each one has $5000 in it. He also has 5 other briefcases, each having between $1500 and $5000 in them. Would you take the 2 briefcases with a guaranteed $10,000 or would you take the 5 briefcases that could range between 7500 and 25,000?....

I like Spezza quite a bit, but I don't see a fit at all for the Wings. They have plenty of depth up the middle. The need is a top-six winger ideally with some size that can score goals. Besides, I'm not willing to part with the assets it will take to acquire Spezza. The Ducks, Blues or Predators seem to be mentioned the most in regards to trading for Spezza.

I don't understand the purpose of making fun of someone's shorthand with words. We all knew they meant "could" and "should".

According to media reports and rumor sites, Tallon has said that Florida has received exactly ONE worthwhile offer for the 1st round pick. I'm certain it wasn't from Kenny Holland. Florida sh(ou)ld keep it and w(ou)ld benefit themselves greatly by taking Ekblad.

I just don't see Ottawa trading with us... Murray/Melnyk would not do that to their fanbase. Alfie AND Spezza going to a divisional rival within a year of each other? It just makes no sense.

So then at that point you trade or waive the weakest link. I really don't see how people perceive this as a bad thing... DEPTH IS YOUR FRIEND. Our defensive prospects are not even close to "over-ripened" so in a year or two if they can EARN a spot then they will.

In my NHL 14 season mode, I traded Cleary and Quincey for Niskanen halfway through the season. Seems like a fair deal right?
