Opinions are opinions, but personal attacks and name calling is against site rules. We are teetering on the line here, i'm not going to edit anything, but keep it toned down and contribute intelligently. If your best rebuttal is "your opinion is stupid because I said so", or referring to someone's post as "stupid" or "garbage" then just refrain from posting altogether. This is considered "trolling" or intentionally trying to stir people up needlessly. Keep it in line. Thanks.

    Stamkos to... Tampa

They got auston Matthews. So not necessarily worse. Also they are trying to actually rebuild properly. They were only going after stammer cause I'm pretty sure shanny would be fired if he didn't even try to get a 26 year old scoring phenom. Especially since Toronto is his hometown and he could help speed up the rebuild. It feels good knowing they'll suck for another two years. But if they keep doing things right they could be a very scary team in 3 years.

I know Frans isn't Datsyuk but it will be nice to rely on another top center playing over 80 games this year. Frans has only missed 5 games in the last 5 years which bodes well for us since we always have injured players.

Putting every single player on a realistic time line with equal amount of training and in their primes? If all players were in their primes, trained in CURRENT DAY standards in the year 2016- 1. Howe 2. Yzerman 3. Fedorov 4. Lidstrom 5. Shanahan First of all, the whole "Howe played hefore 80s" argument goes out the window if you bring him to present time and give him current day training. Howe was ambidextrous which already puts him at an advantage. Howe could hit, score, set up. Howe was said to be naturally gifted in all aspects of the game there's nothing that would say he wouldn't be better than all the more recent Red Wings if he were to train in post 80s training regimen. So enough with the "he's not good because he was pre 80s" bs argument. Inherent abilities have nothing to do with external exposure. External exposure molds inherent abilities. I just brought Howe into current day. Now deal with it.

This is about Steve Ott, not McCarthy not Howe...also what are you still doing here you've said you are going to bump ship on the Leafs bandwagon yesterday?

It would be very bad form to trade a guy a couple days after you re-sign him. It would look very bad on the organization. Especially since he signed for less than what he probably would have gotten on market.

It feels like groundhog day... here we are with a glut of overpaid/underachieving forwards signed, anyone under 25 not named Dylan Larkin have been "cock-blocked" from seeing any meaningful NHL ice time. And our defence is terrible and another year older. This team needs a new management philosophy ASAP.

I hate that Holland comment with all of my heart and soul. It's stupid on so many levels. It encapsulates everything that's wrong with the state of the Wings. Just for starters (I'm only going to launch one complaint here, but please know that I could write an entire essay about this quote), "Why does anyone think he is going to be the answer in Detroit?" is a straw man argument, one Holland has trotted out before when attempting -- and failing -- to convincingly rationalize a decision to hold a younger player back, i.e. keep him in the minors when it's obvious to anyone and everyone not named Ken Holland that the player in question should be playing in the National Hockey League. People don't want Anthony Mantha in the lineup because they feel he's The Answer. They don't feel he's The Answer. What people feel is that Anthony Mantha brings certain elements to the lineup that are sorely lacking and sorely needed, e.g. size, high-level vision/thinking, scoring prowess, playmaking ability. It's like a Wings fan saying, "Thomas Vanek is 32, slow-footed, poor defensively, and he doesn't drive possession. He was at the center of a gambling scandal. He was bought out by the Wild (i.e. they are literally paying him to not play for them). Why does anyone think he is going to be the answer in Detroit?" Holland didn't sign Thomas Vanek because he feels he's The Answer. Holland doesn't think he's The Answer. What Holland feels is that Thomas Vanek brings certain elements to the lineup that are sorely lacking and sorely needed, e.g. size...high-level vision/thinking...scoring prowess...playmaking ability....

Yeah if we signed any free agent d man this year, it would feel like a plug.. A long term plug too. Kind of like Ericsson Trade route is the way to go but it takes two GMs.. Hopefully we can make something work sooner rather than later.

I agree. There is a reason he is unsigned still. If we could swing for Trouba we could actually have a legitimate team.

In fact people would have been furious if he didn't sign neilson. He got neilson at a shorter term and dollar amount than his team (nyi) that he was with for his full 10 year career offered and people are still mad. Had he signed lucic, backes, okposo, or any of the big names from today to any of the contracts they signed for people would still be mad. Kenny can never do anything right around here. I feel like he actually did a good job today. Ya the neilson contract length is long, but it's only really going to hurt us the last 2 years most likely. The vanek signing was very good too imo. Helm contract length and dollar was high, but shouldn't really hinder us going forward too much.

I find it funny most people on this forum didn't want radulov at all originally. But when kh failed to get him he's villanized. Had he signed him for $6 million he would be villanized. Lose lose for kh no matter what lol.

The way I see it, no players were taken on outside of Neilson that has to be protected for the expansion draft. If Vanek plays well and decided Detroit is a good fit, he can re-sign after the draft. So on the bright side, at least we shouldn't lose anyone meaningful when that time comes.

Khan: "#RedWings Ken Holland said roster pretty much set for start of season. A little under cap after factoring in what RFAs will cost." Maybe just trying to play calm, obviously there's time, but doesn't look like that D trade is coming anytime soon.. Hopefully that'll bring the price down

Come on, be realistic. Minnesota is a team where someone as good as Parise even drops in production. For 2.6 million, it's a solid signing. It also allows us a chance to trade for a top D now.

Weiss flunked out because he couldn't stay healthy, which didn't allot him the time necessary to learn our system, gain any concistency, or gaining any cohesion with linemates. Nielsen, while I don't think is truly the answer, has only missed 7 games over the past 5 seasons. Other than Okposo, he'll be playing with some better wingers here (Zetterberg, Nyquist, Tatar, Larkin, maybe Mantha if he can transition).

I'm not talking about the people he did sign, I'm addressing the fact that Holland is accused of "sleeping on a free agent" because they signed somewhere else as if Holland had first dibs on every free agent.
