So instead of arguing any of the multiple points I made about why this would be a horrible trade for both teams, you just add another reason why it wouldn't work? You say "to get you have to give", and follow that up by saying that Smith doesn't hold much value due to being a pending UFA, and Nyquist and Tatar are secondary scorers that can be found in any UFA class... Awesome pitch! Where does Cheveldayoff sign again? Our team is not at all the same as it was 3 years ago, let alone "5 years or so". We have had a huge turnover in that time, and we're continually getting younger (and in my opinion better) each year. We may finish between "6th - 12th in the East, but that's not reason for a team on the upswing to blow it up... Yes, this is a fan forum and everyone has an opinion (no matter how outlandish they may seem), but we should try to at least keep it somewhat realistic, shouldn't we? You said yourself, these are the (only) three big names on the market, and you think it's possible to get all three in a salary cap league? By the way, 40+ points for Green isn't out of the question. DeKeyser is a solid number 2. Although Smith doesn't produce the points we all wish he would, he still possesses the puck a ton and is a solid top 4. Sproul could become the offensive force on the blueline we've been longing for. Ericsson in a reduced role on the 3rd pair where he should be, has looked great. Marchenko is a decent bottom pair guy as well. Ouellet has looked good. Point is, while our defense isn't the strongest, it's not nearly as bad as you make it seem. If we landed ONE top pair guy, we would have a very good defense corp. We don't need to add two or three in my opinion...

I would have thought Richard Panik over Anisimov to be honest. Awesome week for Green, notable mention of our new boy Vanek also who has been superb since game 1. If we can see more of this out of Green, as we know he's a capable offensive threat, we can have one of the better PP units in the league and maintain the scoring pace that they have shown so far.

It's also a play on dojo which makes me stomach it better than when I first read it and didn't listen to the phonetics of it.

    The MANtha watch.....

I feel like the only reason it doesn't work is because they get stuck with two guys that have been offensive suck holes (Miller, Glendening, Cleary, Weiss, etc.). Sticking a young guy with no help doesn't help their production. I agree I'd like to see him top six though. Sheahan doesn't belong there.

    Jacob Trouba watch

Let's just pretend any of this is remotely possible (it's not), there isn't a GM in the league that would make that many massive changes to a team that is (on paper) pretty good, and has won 4 straight against some pretty good teams. Why make so many trades to make your team arguably worse? At best these are lateral moves giving up a ton of offense and depth to solidify the back end... That Trouba trade that you keep bringing up has to be one of the worst trade proposals I've seen. We're giving up TWO 50 point wingers and a 15-20 point defenseman for a defenseman who as of yet, hasn't hit 30 points. This coming from one of the biggest proponents out there for Trouba. I don't think it's out of the question that he could become a 40-50 point defenseman, but he could also tap out at 30 points. That would be a massive over payment for that sort of production. Not to mention the fact that Winnipeg are already loaded up front. Why would they want two more wingers? They're also an internal cap team, and you think they're going to take on over $10M in salary, with two of the three looking for raises after this season?... There's just so much wrong with that trade from every perspective.. I'm not as high as some on Fowler. I would trade for him, but I wouldn't use our first on him. I'd consider Ouellet and a 2nd or 3rd, but that's about as high as I would go... I have zero interest in trading for Shattenkirk, who by all accounts wants to test free agency next offseason. The 8 skater, 1 goalie option is there but I'd be shocked if any teams use this as you'd be protecting two less players. You can be guaranteed most (if not all) teams and definitely Holland will be going with the 7 forwards, 3 defensemen, 1 goalie option. So bringing in any more than one defenseman wouldn't be a smart move in my opinion. I honestly don't think we're going to make any moves, and I'm okay with standing pat for now. I'd do a Smith or Ouellet plus a pick or prospect for Trouba trade, but that'd be about it for me...

    The MANtha watch.....

The team overall was good but were up 3-0 at one point and made it a little close for comfort in the end. Mantha looked good but not great imo. He'll have better games (especially statwise obviously) but he definitely had his chances.. had a lot of shots get blocked or deflected wide but overall he looked like he was skating harder than last season when I went to see them. The monsters were doing a pretty good job of pressuring him when he had the puck but overall, I like what I saw out of him. Bert was great! He's so much fun to watch. Hits everything that moves and is solid offensively.. love it! Lighter side note: they did a thing on the big screen where they asked each player who the worst driver is on the team and everyone said bert.. then it got to bert and he wasn't sure who to say I also really like what I saw out of Russo. He's got a good shot and skates well.. hope he keeps progressing as he has been.

Building through the draft doesn't work if you don't draft top end talent.

Not sure if this will work, but hoping it does. Good evening all, I just went to my first ever Wings game on friday night. First of all, I was blown away. I'm a huge sports fan in general, I live in Portland Oregon and am in the coast guard. While my old roommate and I were living in Seattle in 2014, he got me hooked on watching Wings games (He's from Detroit) We made a pact in 2014 that he'd get me to The Joe during the final year, and let me tell ya I was impressed! As a huge sports fan (and new hockey fan), I couldn't believe the atmosphere, the fans, the banners, not to mention seeing Dylan Larkin get in a fight. every sporting venue I go to, I try to bring back a program from the game. It's kind of something my Dad always did, and I remember reading through all of his old sports programs and old sports illustrated when I was growing up. I had 2 programs from the game on friday night, and they were left at the arena. If there is ANY POSSIBLE way someone on this thread may have snagged a couple or have an extra, I would be more than happy to send some shipping/handling to cover the cost. I'll leave you with this, When I went to go to my section to get to my seat, I asked the lady working if I was in the right place and went to show her my ticket, and all she said to me was "Of course you are honey, you're in the Joe Lewis Arena" Go Wings!

Went to my first game last night. Best game of the season by the defense. San Jose looked tired and never really established themselves. The Wings defense was great at moving the puck and the forwards provided solid puck support. I was worried we'd get pinned in our zone a lot but it didn't happen. Helm played a great game. Won a lot of physical battles So did Sproul. This guy should stay in the lineup for a long time. He's confident and has good IQ out there. Sheahan looks even softer in person than he does on TV. Still not sure what this guy brings to the lineup. He's big, but doesn't do much of anything. If Abdelkader misses games, this guy needs to step up. Figures the game I go to is the one where we don't fight.

It's a risk either way. If we get one of the targets, XO or Sproul will probably be included in a deal. Fortunately we can only lose 1 player. But until a trade happens, its all guessing. You're right though, Vegas would probably ****** Sproul up before a 32 year old. As of right now: Protect: Abby, Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha, AA, Nielsen. (Now which forward do you use the last one on, Helm or Sheahan?) DD, XO, Sproul Mrazek LOL, the curse word filter, filtered out the word used for a quick grab! Rhymes with catch.

    Howard

It will definitely be easier to move Howard next summer if he can keep playing at this level all season. Though with a condensed schedule this season, it's a good idea to have to goalies who can get it done. We're gonna see a lot of back to backs and 3 games in 4 nights situations this season.

Watching Holland refuse to make a single meaningful trade that involved a roster player in 15 years has made me very skeptical that he'd ever do it. Even that trade fell into his lap when the Sabre's GM called him and told him Hasek wanted to be traded to Detroit. Every single other trade he's made has been picks, prospects, a guy who's wanted out, or a 4th liner/3rd pair D type, or a salary dump. http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_GM/Ken_Holland/138/2

    The MANtha watch.....

I think it's important for Mantha to get more top minutes in the AHL because he really hasn't been a dominant/high impact guy since he was in the QMHL. He had a tough first year pro with the broken leg, then he was pretty good last year, but we need him to be an elite scorer here, so let him get to that point in the AHL first. I hope he keeps ripping it up, gets his confidence up and then come up with guns blazing.

    Pulkkinen claimed by Minnesota Wild

I found this amusing; After the Wild game where Pookie scored, the post-game show host was listing off the scorers. He couldn't remember Pookie's name so he paused and said, "That Finnish kid we traded for." I immediately corrected him, of course, but since I am in my living room and he is a couple hundred miles away he didn't notice. Then I thought about it. They bought out Vanek and claimed Pookie. Pookie has taken Vanek's place on the 4th line. (Note: 4th line at the end of the season. I don't remember where Vanek was at the beginning of the season.) For them, it was almost like a trade. They sent us a 4th line winger and got a 4th line winger in return. We, on the other hand, got a 2nd liner who is producing and let go a Press Box Boy. People may be upset that we didn't get anything in return, but if you consider it as a trade-off, we definitely got the better end of the deal. And, for the record, the Press Box Boys would be a great name for a band.
