This is a bad team, and Holland doesn't seem to see that.

I think getting Sproul back in is at least a start but the way the entire team is playing on the ice right now just isn't working, and line shuffles and changing up who's scratched isn't going to solve the problem. Something fundamental needs to change, because this level of consistent underperformance is ridiculous. Nyquist on pace for 12 goals this season. Tatar on pace for 12 goals this season. Larkin is on pace for 32 points this season. Sheahan has yet to score a goal and has only 5 assists. These are abysmal numbers. Blashill needs to wake up and learn how to get our team rolling, or Holland needs to cut ties with him and find someone who does.

    Be honest..

Might honestly be time for a GM change. I've been a Holland supporter but this team needs a fresh start from top to bottom and it starts with putting everyone on this roster on the trade block. Given Holland's track record in the trade department (or lack thereof), we really need to move in a different direction. I don't blame Holland for the Wings lack of success this season, its merely a function of being at the top for so long. But at this point, I'd say the odds of making the playoffs this season are near zero and I'd hate to have us stand pat and hang on to all of our players in the off chance that some miracle happens.

    The MANtha watch.....

I agree that ideally, neither should be in the top six. Helm is, however, more than a checker in my opinion, and is optimally used on the 3rd line. He looked great this year before going down.

I was close to posting something very similar. Jimmy has earned this win, it sucks that there's a goose egg up there after the fantastic effort he's put forward. All season he's given us every single chance to win every game, and they keep failing to put up offense. Vanek and AA need to be in the top 6. Make a Tatar Sheahan Nyquist 3rd line and a Glendening Ott Jurco 4th. What's going out on the ice right now isn't working, goals aren't being scored, it needs to change. Get Sproul back in the lineup and on the PP launching rockets from the point and getting those rebound opportunities. All Lashoff is doing is fumbling with the puck and shooting wide.

This is an entirely winnable game. It would be so frustrating if the Wings continued to not give Jimmy any offensive support and spoil this game, especially considering how desparate the Wings are for points in the league

Phillie goalie is a rookie... 2nd NHL game. Please nominate him for Vezina against our team, at least. Really, Wings. You don't have to be so nice.

No. He played great. Got the team a point at least. He was pretty much left alone on the winner. Schenn was allowed to skate around him while Larkin just stood there and DeKeyser was lost. Defence sunk the team again, as it does most nights. I am very surprised Howard has kept his calibre of play going this far though. Even after the yearly injury which usually results in the yearly appearance of Jittery Jimmy. Good job finally earning the paycheck.

Yeah that's a stat Ken and Mickey love to bring up every year the last several years. I just wish we would trade either Tatar and/or Nyquist just to shake things up - having guys in their primes and having this little production when you're supposed to be the goal scorers is unacceptable. It's also not a trend anymore - this is going is now towards 1.5 years with those two.

    Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

I figured Vanek was gonna be a huge steal and be big for this team as well. He's making less than half of his previous contract right now (but still getting paid close to $8 million this year along with his buyout from MIN) on a one year "Let's see what you've got" deal. He's gonna perform to sign a bigger long term deal.

I thought "fronting" was picking up drugs now and paying for them later. lol

So the highest salaried team in the NHL couldn't put one goal in net during regulation. Jimmy played good but he can't score.

More of that sweet sweet goal support for Howard

NOW can we reshuffle lines and try to get some offense going?

Nothing new. Havnt been able to solve most teams goaltenders this year. Rookie, vet, or retired. Didnt know XO had that in him.

Yeah, they're different, that's why I pointed it out. He never said win% in the post you quoted. Whether you or anyone else likes it or not, the way the NHL rules are means that losing in OT/SO is better than losing in regulation. But even if you want to ignore that we've still been slightly worse. And even if you want to call it close enough, we should probably be getting better.

    AA

AA has hardly played any center in the NHL, less than a couple full games, so he's obviously been better on the wing. But that doesn't mean that's where he should be playing. He AND Larkin are our most offensively dynamic players. AA is probably even better than Larkin is (offensively) but Blash won't give him the same opportunity for some reason. It's extremely important that both turn into top 1 and 2 centers over the coming years and they aren't going to do that by never playing center (for the record I'd have Svech playing center too in GR). At the end of the day I want the puck on the stick of the guys most able to make something happen with it. Put them both in the middle, let them get their reps, and if we miss the playoffs then so be it. At least they'll grow as players. Neilsen, Helm, Z, Sheahan, Glendening aren't the future of this organization down the middle, AA and Larkin are, and we're retarding that future by not allowing it to develop. I'd do something like this with all healthy. Nyquist-Larkin-Vanek Z-AA-Mantha Tatar-Neilsen-Abby Glen-Helm-Sheahan/Jurco

    Mike McKee

It didn't but Downey goinf bonkers and destroying Laperierre did send a message like you can hit our players but if you go overboard someone sneaky is waiting around the corner. That would be the job of McKee other than Looch, Bourdelaus, Boll, Reaves and Chara there aren't too much guys standing a chance against this young up and coming enforcer.

He was the best in waiting, until he got here and realized he has no control over who he plays based on salary. Can't have $4M players in the press box even though they are the worse player. It's a bureaucracy here. He has to play certain players in certain roles based on salary. Now he is just a pawn of Holland. It needs to be stated again, that this team has the highest payroll in the NHL.

What is a realistic expectation for this team at this point in the season? Playoff appearance? Playoff win?

Cal Clutterbuck re-signs for 5 years at ($3.5M AAV)... Just saying, for those of you that though Helm was WAAAAY overpaid...

I dont even think this is true, we are just missing a top pairing. Throw say Keith/Seabrook on this team, then our second pairing is DD/Green, third pairing Sproul/Smith and I think we have a damn good d. Everyone is playing a pairing higher then they should.
