Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

And this is what you get when a person takes possession metrics to an extreme. Not even worth debating.

Red Wings Got A Special Goalie In Petruzzelli Forget Mrazek and Howard. This kid could be the future of this team in net, and our best pick of the 2017 draft. He was ranked as the #1 NA goalie midway through last season, ending the season at #2. Red Line Report had him ranked as the 33rd best player in the entire draft. He also won the Dave Peterson award for best USA goalie this past season. At development camp he allowed 0 goals during the lone scrimmage and stopped every single shootout attempt as well. He will play on a very good Quinnipiac University team this year. Looking like we got our very own Ben Bishop

Like I said before, Chris appears to be content to let things go however they go as long as people buy tickets and merchandise, just like WC Ford did for decades for the Lions

That bold text seems fitting. He'll get it, got the goods for it. Should be even sharper this season.

I honestly don't think anyone will live up to their offensive potential with this horrible system in place. It's the most boring hockey I've ever watched.

So their optimal trajectories should be somewhat like the black lines illustrated in the picture below. Any hardcore fans please make a mental note and study their rushing pattern (statistically) during the season and let me know if I am correct.

That infograph is horrendously faulty, obviously. Both Athanasiou and Larkin shoot left. LH tend to be faster leaning left, with their stick tilted towards the ice, which is their Left. Try it out yourself to get a feeling what I'm murmuring about. So the right side of the graph is correct, that's their optimal pattern but not that steep to the middle. Left screen should be coming in from the top in an angle towards the goal. ^^

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Well, considering he made $2.75 it would be nearly a $2M increase. But, that contract was a hometown discount, hge signed that after Nyquist got his. Then after he signed it, Abby and Helm got way overpaid. I understand the reasoning behind what he wants, but there just isn't any cap. That's Holland's fault. He needs to trade away some cap. We needed to lose $4M at expansion PLUS trade away about $12M in mediocre cap space. One of our goalies, Nyquist, Helm and Ericsson. None of which we'd miss and are all replaceable from within. If Holland would take better care of his house, we wouldn't be in this situation, but he still thinks that these players will get better even though they get older, so he hangs on to them....for far too long.

If they do a relatively quick turnaround in 3 years he'll be 29. Since when is that past his prime? Sent by my minions via telepathy

The situation regarding Tatar is complicated, unpredictable and it is hard to foresee the long term outcome, regardless of which direction this debacle take. Usually when I face something like that I tend to fall back and bolster my position, seeking more information to make an informed decision, at least more informed. I still stand by offering Tatar a 1 year deal only. I don't think he'll produce well the coming season. It's just one opinion among many though.

If he goes to arbitration with the numbers as they were reported, he'll more than likely land around 4.75 million. That puts him in the league with Palmieri, Williams, Nyquist, Hornqvist, Soderberg, Bozak, Johansson... Those all seem very appropriate.

It's too bad that most of those players provide more than just points... unlike Tatar, who is one-dimensional. Hossa really isn't a fair comparison as he is older and toward the end of this contract. Also that contract, at the time, was a steal. 4.5-5 million is the sweet spot for Tatar, but I'd rather not have him on the books for more than 4 years.

5-6 million is not a ridiculous contract for Tatar. It is the going rate in the league for these types of players. If every other team would also pay it, that is simply market value. If he ends up somewhere else next yr he will definitely be in the high 5/6mil window. If Abby was making the lower 3mil he should be, helm was making the high 2mil he should be (or gone), and Glendening was making the 800k he should be i don't think there 'd be nearly the talking points or debate over signing a established top goal scorer 5.5/6 mil especially considering market value and cost to retain/sign similar players around the league. Vegas Golden Knights

Yeah, they did focus a lot on youth and future, which is the best way to go instead of completely loading up on established players and veterans trying to make a quick mark, and then screwed when those players are done. Good mix. A few of the previous expansion rosters were just awful, like SJ and Ottawa. Ottawa had I think 8 wins their first season. Different era, but awful for the time nonetheless. Looking at that roster, Vegas really didn't make out that well in the draft. I've seen it before on Capfriendly, but the way you put it together makes it seem even worse. And what if Fleury has a repeat of last regular season? Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hahaha.... the best player on this team scored 46 points last season and most of his goals came after we were obviously eliminated. Zetterberg and Mantha are the best players currently. If Larkin can bounce back, he'll be better than Tatar as well. Tatar does not deserve to make nearly as much as Zetterberg. Tatar should be making between 4.5 and 5 million. If that 5x5 offer was real and he turned it down, he's an idiot.

Now if we could somehow land Svechnikov next year...
  21. 1 point
Palat got $5.3 x 5 and consistently hovers around 50 - 60 pts per season. Tatar hovers around 40 - 50 pts per season but scores more goals, whereas Palat notches more assists. I think $4.5 to $5 is fair. So basically Nyquist.

Think Coraeu's size with Mrazek's agility. Watched him play 1 game last year. Very agile. Yes it was the USHL but him and Svechnikov were by far the 2 best players on the ice for the Jacks.

    45 points isn't worth $5.3 million imo

Honestly 5.3 is a bit high. I wouldn't want him for more than 5.

Yeah, it's hard not to love this pick. I don't think there's any question that he was our best value pick (potential vs where he was selected) and quite possibly one of the best value picks in the entire draft. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head would be, the Kings taking Vilardi at 11... Now THAT was a steal...
