Brendan Smith traded to Rangers for 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2017) Round Draft Picks

Correct. My meme was in response to the idea that hopefully the team puts the kids in the best possible situation to succeed. How is that a false premise? I bolded the entire paragraph because I agree with the overall message, not necessarily the exact verbage. Maybe I should only bold specific words next time? I guess I can't like some of what you say without agreeing with everything you say? Do I have that right? Nowhere was I implying that Smith WAS mismanaged (don't care), or that the kids WILL BE. But it is possible to mismanage a player, is it not? Whether or not Smith was, has nothing to do with it. I, like you, am hoping that the team does what is in the best interests of their development. Shouldn't we all hope for that? I don't care who Smith's D partners were, cuz it has nothing to do with the kids. Different coach now. But, is it not reasonable to believe that a prospect will develop better when he is partnered with a better quality Dman? Again, whether or not Smith was is irrelevant to that premise. This team has some low quality defensemen on it, and I hope that none of the kids are partnered with them, but instead with guys like Green, Daley, Kronner, etc cuz they just might learn more! I know, crazy right? I have no dog in this fight. I have said before that I always thought that Smith had the tools to be a 4/5 guy. In reality, he's not. I don't know whether he was mismanaged or not, I simply don't know and it would be arrogant of me to say otherwise. What I can say is that I BELIEVE that in the end its irrelevant, because he was never going to be more than a 3rd pairing defenseman regardless of how he was developed. Can we please move on? Not angry with YOU at all BTW, and I appreciate your response. To be fair, krsmith is not second guessing in hindsight. He has questioned how Smith was being developed for years, from the very beginning of his pro career That's not hindsight. If it was, I would agree with you. One thing I will say tho is that you always have the stats/figures and such to back up what you say. Respect. Even if I don't always agree with you. -

I caught the last 6-7 minutes of the 2nd and was eating tacos. Howard made a few stunning saves, glad to see he snapped back to it after last outing. -

This game could be 4-3/4-4 or something. Both goalies are outstanding. -

End of 2nd. No score. Rangers pushed back, Howard is a madman. We dominated the 1st period, Rangers dominated the 2nd period. Howard's playing out of his mind, Lundqvist has been really good. So, pretty much your standard Wings-Rangers game. Also, Daley's out with an injury. -

Wings certainly made an impression on Rags fans after the first period -
1 pointNope. I think Blashill was pretty happy with him. He'd actually looked pretty good on the fourth line, though I know most Wings fans weren't happy with him being slotted there. I think he skated with the team today for the first time in a while, so it shouldn't be much longer now. --- LOL, Smith makes his second trip to the box. PP

1 pointInjured, unfortunately. Sounding like he's expected to be back next week. I'm not sure what the injury is. I don't think they've specified.

1 pointI agree. Nothing should be handed to the younger guys. It was good of Blash to call him on it. Guess I’m just tired of vets getting passes while the younger guys get s*** for one bad game. They still have to contribute and play the best they can, they are part of the team on the ice every night. Can’t just float around and cost goals for and against and shrug it off, or this team doesn’t have a prayer. Guess calling them out won’t do anything though if they already don’t care enough to slack off. They have their long term contracts locked up.

1 point100% agree with this. Vets are what they are, it is very hard to change bad habits in a vet. Kids like AA, Larkin, and Mantha are at a very crucial point in their careers where these bad habits are not ingrained in them yet and should be called out. I actually commend Blashill for addressing it. Mantha has the potential to be one of the best wingers in the NHL, and Blashill has a giant role in that development. I'm not saying I love Blashill, but any good coach would do this.

Without that father son chat they don't win the cup. Seabrook is a better leader than captain 40 points. -

Abby is going to be the next Captain... He's from Michigan, does a lot in the community, and if you haven't noticed gives a lot of interviews, which is a good sign for a captain. When that happens, Larkin and DK will also get the A... Not only are they both from Michigan also, they will both have long-term contracts by that time, and be mainstays in the lineup/organization.
