Howard for Halak straight up doesn't make sense. If they can bring in Halak and a pick or prospect, that would be something to consider. At best Howard is going to be around 3 more years, they need a long term plan in net. As much as I question if Mrazek is that answer, giving him the majority of the starts the rest of this year is probably the smart move. If Mrazek craps the bed, they an try to re-sign Halak for next year and have an extra asset out of the bargain.

Zetterberg: "It’s good to see (Bertuzzi) get his first one. Obviously, he’s going to count many more after that. I thought he’s been playing well ever since he got called up. He’s a smart player. He does things right and is unselfish".

No Red Wing should / will wear #93 for the next two and a half seasons. There's no argument there. I just don't think it should be permenantly out of circulation beyond him officially retiring.

Petr shuts out the Hawks. Good job kid!!

Offer sheet issue too. It's not like Feds has just one problem. He had a track record that probably left a bad taste in the owners mouth. Plus we don't know what was going on behind the scenes. Maybe Feds was beating around the bush too much and the owners didn't want to deal with it all over again like they had to in 98 or whatever it was.

Not that cut and dry to me. Howard improved when it looked like he was done in Detroit, and it coincided with Mrazek's fall when he looked like he was the future in Detroit. Mrazek was superior when he first broke in, enough to unseat a guy who had a hold on the job for a few seasons already. He was impressive. But he fell off and Howard took advantage and took the job back and has been superior since. Can chalk it up to veteran experience and hard work with Howard. He re-invented his playing style and it's paid off. With Mrazek, seems like youthful lack of discipline, not very open to coaching help, stubborn, and won't make needed permanent changes. Even though i'm sure he knows his aggressive style burns him. He has more natural talent than Howard, but needs to make adjustments and dig in to figure things out if he wants to stay in the NHL. He seems to just shrug off goals and bad games, which is a good quality, but you can't take it to the point of not caring and not learn from it. Howard made his adjustments and seems to be thriving. Mrazek might not be a Wing next season, but I can see him getting one year somewhere at a big pay cut as one last chance simply due to age and potential. Get him cheap, might turn out to be a hell of a steal.

    2018 ALL STAR GAME THREAD

I'm on the fence with this a bit (i.e. in for name only). Not that it happens a lot, I just question whether it should. This is an all star game...to showcase your "stars", who do the kids want to see, etc. (it is for the kids after all). You won't to put your stars in that game (names). On the other hand, if a no name is having an outstanding year, you want to recognize him. The other view people take is looking at body of work from last half of the season before and first half of current season (i.e. time since last game....otherwise you are always just basing it off the first half of any season). Crosby didn't make it one year and ended up top 5 or higher in scoring at the end of the year. If you look at this year, Crosby is having a down year statistically, but it's it's down compared to his standards. When you compare to the rest of the league, he's still 13th in scoring. I think Kessel is 9th or 10th and Malkin is 14th. Kind of weird that all 3 aren't there...but the format is way different with 3 on 3 now and you'll always have guys that you really think shoudl be all stars but aren't there and then you have the few head scratchers (every team must be represented picks).

All joking aside, that's the sort of trade I'd like to see Holland trying to make. Not necessarily Hague, but a defenseman around that age (19-21), with that sort of upside. I don't think we'd get that much for Tatar though. I'd possibly do Tatar for *high end defense prospect* straight up though. Source?

He stopped every shot he faced. He was as good as he needed to be. The defence actually played quite well in front of him though.

By keep him, do you mean not trade him or get him back over the summer in free agency? Because not trading him would be stupid. Good game, glad to see Mrazek play well. Chicago looked like they were already on break, Detroit took advantage.

McKenzie and Button are the two best sources when it comes to Draft Rankings in my opinion. As much as I think we should take a center and defenseman with our two first round picks (assuming we get another one at the deadline...), it'd be hard to pass on Svechnikov or Tkatchuk if they're available. You could throw Zadina in there as well. We should be taking best player available, I just don't like how all three of those guys are left-handed wingers. I'd be okay with trading back if we're missing out on Dahlin, and if it's for a big return. The Islanders have two firsts (12 and 17). Imagine having three 1st's, and three 2nd's in this draft. Any of Hughes, Wilde, Bouchard, Dobson, Merkley, Woo as a defenseman taken outside of the top 5 in the first.
