    2018 Prospects Watch

Yeah, bunch of idiots on the Network trying to justify why he dropped all the way to 30th overall. He was in Bob McKenzie's Pre-Season Top 5 last year. He was consistently in everyone's top 10-15 all season. He drops and all of a sudden he's likely a "3rd line center"... You know who else was projected to be a "middle six center with limited offensive upside"? Dylan mother f***ing Larkin! That's who!

    2019 Draft

My boy Alex Newhook is tumbling down a lot of draft boards for no discernable reason. He's tearing up the BCHL and has looked good so far at Canada's World Junior Camp. Yet Craig Button currently has him sitting at 22, while Sportanet has him at 15. We're really going to need another first rounder this year.

    2019 or 2020?

Yep. I don't follow juniors at all, and I knew about Lafreniere before Hughes. This is your fault for not making it a poll question.

I don't see how It's blind. He's a prospect dominating his peers, that's kind of the evidence you look for. Do you not think if the draft was redone right now he would be taken higher? If we're just going to assume everybody but us knows better and not speculate with the evidence available to us about prospects, we might as well never discuss them at all. What fun is that?

To be fair, just because there's a reason doesn't mean it's a good one. Why are any players who turn out great taken later in the draft than they should've been? It just happens. Folks praised the pick, he showed well in camp, he's currently dominating his respective league. I think It's alright to be optimistic at this point.

    2019 or 2020?

    Sometimes I defy logic! Nevermind, I will just go with a top 6-10 2019 and a #1 OA 2020.

    2018 Prospects Watch

We cannot recall Veleno at all, he is NOT under contract with us. Guhle is currently under contract with Buffalo. If Veleno signs a contract after WJC, then yes, we can recall him. Not being under contract means he would not be paid...

    2019 or 2020?

I guess I'd go with 2020. The Hughes HYPE! is real, but I haven't seen anyone dare to suggest he could be Crosby-good. Meanwhile, Lafreniere's already being saddled with the Crosby comparison. Granted, I think that's largely down to 1) Lafreniere playing for the same QMJHL team that Crosby played for, and 2) Canadian hockey media being Canadian hockey media. But there's no denying the kid is an enormous talent. 42 goals and 80 points in 60 regular-season games last season (and 4 goals and 7 points over 7 playoff games), as a QMJHL rookie. This season: 17 goals and 54 points in 31 games. They're not Crosby numbers (Crosby put up 135 points in his QMJHL rookie season), but they are 2018-19 Joe Veleno numbers. Think about how happy we are as Wings fans to see Veleno producing like he is and then consider how good a kid would have to be to put up the same kind of numbers before his NHL draft season.

    2019 or 2020?

Plus I forgot to mention that I think we would get a better prospect picking 6-10 in '19 than in '20. So I would choose 6-10 pick in 19 + Lafreniere over Hughes and 6-10 pick in 20.

    2019 or 2020?

No, I mean if he is a bust. The Habs will take him off our hands. I have posted these before, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with him:

Lafreniere has been turning heads since he was 15. Like Crosby at that age. Think he'll be the better player, so I would rather have him. Plus, the Habs will offer the moon for this kid since he sounds French.

    2019 or 2020?

No, no, no Alexis Lafrenière, not Lafrelkjasejwoier. I don't think Lafrelkjasejwoier is that great to be honest. Likely going to be a bust... Lafrenière on the other hand is going to be a stud. Getting Crosby / McDavid sort of hype... Personally, I think I'd prefer Lafrenière over Hughes, but both are likely going to be studs. Hughes best comparable is probably Patrick Kane. I've heard Lafrenière being compared to Crosby, but Taylor Hall may be a better comparison. Can't really go wrong with either of those players... Lafrelkjasejwoier is more like a Nail Yakupov...

He's at Dick O'Dow's in Birmingham. Funny thing is, I'd actually take that bet. A buddy of mine see's him there all. the. time. I have a pretty funny story about Murph throwing a balled up napkin at my brother (who is from Denver) and telling my brother to go stick the napkin "up Claude Lemieux's A$$!!!" It's actually pretty interesting to think that: in his last years with us, he was likely the slowest player to ever play in the NHL. It's was brutal. However, if he did suit up he'd be even slower...which would mean that he'd be so far behind the play...that he'd be a threat for stretch pass breakaways (going the other way). Hmm

    2019 Draft

Only if Larkin breaks his leg before Christmas. That little punk is almost single-handedly screwing us out of a top 5 pick.
