Goaltending is Voodoo. I'm with @krsmith17: If we had our team set and the only missing piece was goaltending maybe then I'd take the risk picking Askarov in Round 1. But since that is not the case Yzerman should pass and rather load us up with a few goalie prospects during later rounds. Whoever is advocating singing Holtby should take a look at his stats the last three years: .907, .911, .897. He is probably as done as Howard is. Will some dumb GM throw money and term at him regardless? Probably. But it shouldn't be our GM. I'm all for singing Lehner though, if we get the chance.

Howard was great again tonight. He does not deserve this team in front of him, but he give it his all anyway. Math is not their strong suit.. they seem to think if they score 1, they've won the game.. that is basically never true, Wings.

A week ago, he had zero value. If he can keep this up, we might be able to get a mid round pick from a desperate team. If we can get a 3rd round pick, I'd be happy.

Guys i'll have a computer again on Tuesday and i'll be back regularly, family is in town this weekend also so that's why i've been absent. I despise using my phone for anything except phone calls, texts, and my fantasy hockey app, so trying to navigate and post on here during games got very annoying quick. Apologies for the brief hiatus, but it will be back to normal this week. If any more spam bots attack, please @ me in any thread so I receive the notification and can clean that junk up. Sounds like Howard played well last game, maybe he can step up and find a bit of his game again, it would be a good time with Bernier out. Also Zadina (i'm NOT calling him Zadimples ) netted a goal, which is great to see. It puts him around the 20 goal pace mark if he had played a full season. It's progress, and it's something positive to take away from this season besides the emergence of Hronek and the consistency of Bert Jr. I'll be watching this game and i'll glance at the GDT here and there just to make sure things are civil, but I doubt i'll be posting much tonight. In 56 drafts the Detroit Red Wings have only once had Steve Yzerman running the draft. Steve Yzerman drafted Andrei Vasilevskiy. I'm not suggesting late rounds, I'm saying not with what will be our highest pick in 30 years, with some elite (can't miss) forwards on the board. If we end up falling to 3 or 4, your boy Stutzel will likely still be available, and I'd much rather pick him, or a number of other forwards before Askarov. If we can somehow grab another 1st round pick, and Askarov is still on the board, I'd be more than happy to pick him there. Not with a top 4 pick though.

I think Askarov is too risky of a pick with guys like Stutzle, Raymond, Byfield still on the board after the first pick.

Whats with the Bernier hate? I think he's exceptionally well... he's kept us afloat in games we've had no business being in... Howard on the other hand has been a train wreck.

Yeah, if I had to choose between a Bernier extension on July 1 or a massive Holtby contract on July 1, I choose the former. That's one very specific scenario and not at all related to anything else. But please, keep on picking and choosing certain posts that fit your argument.

I'd extend Bernier before throwing money and term at Holtby in 2020. f***. He sucks now.

Well I REALLY hope we dump about 3-5 players this deadline. Not that we need the cap space this year for anything, I am just tired of seeing certain players wear this jersey. Not that we'd get anything great in return for them, but I just don't want to watch them on this team anymore. I hope the Howard and Green "rumors" come to fruition. IF they could be dealt, I wouldn't mind seeing Helm, Filppula and Nielsen gone as well. Ericsson and Daley can just fade away, I hope they never put the jersey on again. I'd like to see if there is any interest in Ehn also. Of course all of this will not happen, and I don't want to gut GR because we'd have to bring players up, but if we could thin our team out up here sooner than the off season, it would be awesome. I am wondering what Yzerman's plan is with Cholowski, rumors of him having a poor attitude does not help his case in getting back to Detroit. Maybe a trade to Western Canada would help his attitude and he could at least get back to the NHL. He could be packaged or just sent alone for a 2nd maybe?
