2024-25 Bold Predictions

That's interesting... it's a move that won't salvage this season but might prevent players from regressing or stunting the growth of young guys. Also we need a coach to tell Rasmussen to play like a man or sit in the press box. -

I watched the Lions tonight instead of the Wings, imagine if they get Hutchinson back deep in playoffs on top of it. Gibbs/Monty combo have been just a blast to watch. Looks like Husso played well tonight at least, yet another game where our goalie holds the opposing team to 2 goals and still can't get them the W. Offense sucks s*** 5 on 5 this year, something needs to change. I thought Kane/Tarasenko would be more difference makers for goal scoring at least. Tired of losing, if you haven't hopped on the Lions train yet, do so. They are very fun to watch this season. -

To be fair to stevie, im not convinced anyone else could do better. Hes hit on his 1st round picks (the ones you NEED to hit on) and his trading ability is actually very good. But i am seriously confused by, and disagree with, his lack of direction. As well his coaching choices. You can be the Scotty Bowman of GMs, but an inability to acquire the right personel or lead this team in a distinct direction will sink even the best. So basically i dont think hes a bad GM/hockey brain, but I do think he has made serious mistakes at this point. Mistakes he may come to regret. -

The Mystery of The Missed Playoffs Season 9 - 2025 Detroit Red Wings; Off-Season of Change.

Larkin is a 2C on a good team. Every other center on this team is a 3C at best on a good team. Every bottom six winger on this team is fourth line at best on a good team. Chiarot is a bottom pairing guy on a good team. Petry and Holl aren't playing on a good team. Talbot is the backup on a good team. -

Whats not to love about Todd McLellan? I love everything about this coach. Straight forward no bulls*** approach to players and media. Puts in work and demands max effort every shift every game. Trusts and plays the young players and rewards good play. Not even mentioning his systems - less dump and chase more puck possession hockey. McLellan is a great coach and a perfect fit for where this team is at. Look at the difference in play from the most important players on this team. Larks, Ray, Seider have been leading the team all season but theyve all taken it to a whole other level since Todd came in. Kasper and Jo look like completely different players under Todd. Hes done well with Berg and Soda. I look forward to see what he can do with Danielson, Maz, MBN, ASP, ect. -

We wake up this morning two points out of the Wild Card, three points out of the final divisional seed, and three VERY beatable divisional rivals just ahead of us in the standings. The postseason is still very attainable. What an unbelievable turnaround we've seen. There's no doubt in my mind that the team we just watched spank LA last night (with a third line of Motte-Veleno-Shine?!?!?) can go better than .500 against Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, and Tampa for the remainder of the season. If we can be the best (or even 2nd best) team in that group we should make the playoffs...assuming we keep it up. It's a good day to be a Red Wings fan. -

Naturally SY grabbed the only guy with a connection to the Wings. This thing he has about only hiring guys hes worked with b4 leaves us somewhat limited. However Todd has a lot of coaching under his belt. SY basically 180ed from rookie to well seasoned. He's also shown to be good at coaching rebuild teams. Just cant get it done in the playoffs. Bigger story is Boughner and his terrible PK are gone. However, Todd plays boring trap defense, so dont expect games to get more exciting... I personally did not expect a firing so soon... now that it happened im starting to wonder if SYs seat is hotter than anyone expects. We are in year 6 and the team looks like its in another year of the mediocrity cycle. A lot of his moves the past 2 years have been head scratchingly dumb... Walman, Fabbri, Gustafsson, Tarasenko, Kostin, bad coaches, goalie carousel, not buying, not selling. He probably has a longer leash than anyone, but if this was anyone not named SY, this move would stink like desperation to save ones job... -

Seider for sure had some jump last night. The whole team looked like they were comfortable and playing loose and not “gripping their sticks too tight”. I’m sure Lalonde hated it. Like Babcock before him, he’d rather lose a game 2-1 than win a game 6-5. -

Don't perceive my "depression" over this skid as giving totally up but the storm clouds are gathering on the horizon. I wouldn't expect Mrazek and Smith to pull us across the line be happy to be wrong but.... I am more disappointed at the players that have been here done that said the same things the last couple of years. Then go out and have the same blah performance or zero fire after things go south like against the Caps. -

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*
Motor City Mullets and one other reacted to Jimmybigrigs69 for a post in a topic
Just wanted to talk about one of the newest articles from the athletic: The agent poll Voting: Q: Best front office to deal with? 1. TBL & Minny (6 votes each) 2. Dallas (4) 3. Florida (3) 4. NYI, Philly, VAN, Avs, & DET (2 each) No comments in the article about Detroit in regars to this Q, but agents heaped a lot of praise on Jim Nill... "the classiest and most honest guy in the league" said one agent about Nill. Q: Most unstable and poorly run franchise? 1. Buffalo (6) 2. Ducks (5) 3. Chicago & SJS (4 each) 4. Carolina (3) 5. NYI & DET (2) Hawks and Wings recieved votes here because their respective rebuilds have been big "let downs" according to agents. One agent said about the Wings "theyre really unstable. There's no plan, though they may say there is one..." Disheartening to hear this... i wonder if these two agents represent Walman or Fabbri... or if their answer may be different without the early season lalonde struggles and firing... The agents also dragged Pat Verbeek pretty hard... basically saying he's very old school, grumpy, and a "ridiculous" arsehole. Draws lines in the sand and irrationaly sticks to them, and its hard to even get simple ELC contracts done with Anaheim. IMO I bet Verbeek reads these comments and wears them like a badge of honor... Q: Best ownership in the league? 1. TBL (7) 2. Leafs, Cats, and VGK (3 each) TBL bc Jeff Vinik hires good ppl and lets them cook. Doesnt micro-manage. Leafs because MLSE has more money than god, so they treat their players like gods. Only comments from this section... Q: Worst ownership? 1. Carolina (10 votes) 2. Buffalo (5) 3. Ducks & Nucks (2 each) Basically Dundon in Carolina micromanages everything and is basically the real GM. But with the recent sucess theyve had he probably wont stop this stiffling meddling behavior, as he sees the recent success as his own doing. Conversely, Ducks and Sabres owners are out to lunch, and dont have a hand the wheel. When sometimes they should... My personal takeaways: 1. Interesting to see the variety of personalities that the Holland & Yzerman brain trusts have produced. Normally I'd expect underlings to adapt and conform to their bosses style/approach and the front office's culture.... but you have Nill and Brisebois being gushed on about how nice and classy they are... and then you have Verbeek over in Anaheim being a total azzhole lol. Yzerman has some questioning his vision, but he at least got 2 votes for best office to deal with. I would be curious to see this poll done during the Yzerman/Verbeek years in Tampa. Their good cop bad cop skills together were probably intense. The little ball being used as the attack dog, but SY always there to reign him in when needed. Now it sounds like Verbeek is missing that steadying SY presence, as his AGM is Solomon, who is described as just as big an A-hole as Pat... which leaves me wondering... is Verbeek's presence something SY is missing...? He chose to take Verbeek with him to Detroit over Brisebois (the nice guy) even if Pat wasnt here for long. So does anyone think Horcoff Draper or Lidstrom has filled those shoes? We know Drapes and Lids pretty well... and I dont see it in them. I havent gotten that impression from Horcoff either, who's more involved with GR. 2. We fans probably took it a little far when we memed "yzerplan" into existence, but comments about "no plan" isnt good. And I have been worried about this. After some good trades and drafting early on SY has done some suspect stuff as of late. The bizarre departues of Kostin, Walman, and Fabbri. Picking no direction to go at TDLs. Failing to do backgrounds on Campbell and Vrana. A goalie carousel that continues to spin like mad and destroys the tenders on the ride (are we gonna ruin Cossa too?). Hiring his guy in Lalonde only to back pedal on that choice quick. Suspect contracts and trades for guys like Holl, Gustafsson, and Petry. Again, maybe SY needs a bully lapdog like Verbeek at his side. Someone who tells agents to eat a richard when they say "my client Holl wants $3+ mil a year". Whatever it is, IMO, SY has approached a lot scenarios with seemingly no plan lately. Unable to decide which way to go at last years TDL tells me theres no grand plan behind what were doing. Giving Walman and Fabbri new contracts, only to completely change your mind on that a short time later and pay to be rid of them, shows lack of planning and foresight. Constantly failing to notice troubled players in Vrana and Campbell (and possibly Fabbri and Walman) shows lack of due dilligence. Picking up bad coaches = more lack of due dilligence. I worry SY has taken his foot off the pedal a bit... He is basically immune to firing due to his status as a Wings legend, so he doesnt need to grind harder than others. He's returned home and built a room filled with all his buddies from his playing days. The best minds you could gather just happen to be Draper, Lids, Kronwall, your brother, Wallin, and Cleary? Hmmmm thats quite a coincidence that the best happen to all be your friends... My point being, even if his foot is still on the pedal, does he really have the best minds around him? We watched how the brain drain slowly destroyed Hollands teams... and mistakes are starting to pile up. "I only hire guys Ive worked with and trust" How's your trust in Lalonde these days Stevie? He wrecked that lil philosophy of yours pretty quick... Do we want to build an elite hockey club, or do we wanna build a kinda good one where all your buddies can have jobs and parade back through Detroit to reminice about the good ol days? We cannot just draft a Hakan guy early every year and then sit back and wait... Sorry for the negative post guys. I just think this front office might need a shakeup much like the bench did. Not Yzerman. His underlings. In the article agents talked about up and coming they think could become a future GM. Not one of SY's AGMs was mentioned. The instability of these last two seasons needs to get buttoned up. -

Lions 2024 thread
Rick D and one other reacted to Jimmybigrigs69 for a post in a topic
³Gentlemen, enjoy these next few weeks. We are currently expierencing what you will call in the future "the good old days". Even if we somehow manage to not take home the lombardi this year, its obvious to the experts, and every fan in the league, that this is the begining of a Detroit dynasty. This team is poised to a win a title NOW, but also setup for it for years to come. Not just because of good contracts and drafting, but because of what this coaching staff and the culture theyve built has proved theyre capable of. We just watched a 5'9" 2nd string corner in Amik Robertson shut down the best WR in the NFL last night in Justin Jefferson. This kinda thing has been the story of the Lions all year. And it is the true source of our power. Our players trust Dan, they believe Dan, they've bought into Dan, and they will go through walls for Dan, and more importanly each other. Our practice squad players will outwork any starter you have. Injuries to key players have little to no effect on us, because we operate as a single cohesive unit. And this all begins and ends with Dan. We are watching the early years of a LEGENDARY coach. A true leader of men. Sure we have brilliant X's and O's guys in Johnson and Glenn supporting him, but I promise you, when Johnson jets for the Bears or the Jags, that magic will not follow him. It takes way more than playbooks and calls to lead a team, and right now our coordinators operate under that safe leadership blanket that Dan has created for them. We've seen many nerds like Johnson around the league accept HC positions and fall flat on their face... What makes Dan different: He has the expierence of a former high level player, he's passionate, he's accountable, and he's willing to bet on his team. >former player - not only do his players automatically respect him more and connect with him better right away for "having been there done that" rather than some fat unkept fuq like Matt Patricia. But he also thinks like a player. Watch those draft episodes of inside the den. He's very specific about who he likes and why he likes them. He's not after raw talent. He wants DAWGS. Guys who play through the whistle, push back, don't stop, carry themselves a certain way. Guys he would want to play next to as a player... >passion - Dan is still playing football. Maybe not on the field, but in his mind he he is. He still worksout like a player, still talks like a player, and still shows all his emotions... like a player would. This earns him that much more trust of his players. They know he could, and would, suit up in the trenches with them and battle if allowed to. But he cant. Instead that passion comes out in the lockerroom. Have you ever seen speeches or post game celebrations more inspiring than dan campbells??? Its not even fuqqing close. And my former points about his status as a former player and what not only lend way more authenticity to him when he speaks like this. The post superbowl inside the den episodes are going to be straight kino FIRE. >Accountability - This mans integrity is next level. He holds himself accountable more than he does his team. We lost twice this season and he deflected ALL blame on to himself both times. Hes shown this team hes not interested at all in protecting his job or his rep, hes focused on something greater than himself. He has a singular focus that transcends his own ego. His players have seen this and adopted this. >betting on his team - this is probably the singular ACTUAL genius thing Dan has done IMO. My first 3 points I believe are just dan being who he is. This is more calculated. Constantly going for it on 4th downs, constantly risking 2 pt conversions, constantly risking dangerous experimental trick plays, refusing to rest players to protect against injury for future more important games... these all scream FOOLISH GAMBLER to everyone at home watching.... but not to his team. To his team it says "I believe in you". I believe I can put my chips on the table every week and you wont let me down. Thats how strongly I believe in this team! When players see that level of faith and trust they will follow you to the gates of mordor itself. It was never about extending that drive. It was never about the extra point. It was never about embarassing the opponent. It was always about sending the message to his players that I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO THIS and I will play this team every game like its our last, and if you trust me, one day IT WILL be the last game, the superbowl, and you will be ready for these moments. Its handing them free confidence everytime, and this team is addicted to it like opium. dan campbell is a confidpium pusher. Hes a true players coach. Something i have rallied against on this board in regards to the red wings... and unfortunately i dont think the NHL has ever seen anything comparable to Dan. A players coach cant just be a nice guy. They must also have the charisma to inspire as well as aN ancillary way of commanding respect and trust. Otherwise you will be percieved as weak. The closest thing is probably Rod the Bod or MSL. Certainly not Trashill or LaLoser. Back to the lions, here are a few accomplishments I want to reflect on: >We just went 15-2 and swept our division in what has been widely considered THE BEST division in NFL history. The Minnesota VikIngs are the first team in NFL history to win 14 games and not achieve a division title. >This team is ranked as the 4th highest scoring team in the history of the NFL. >Aidan Hutchinson led the team in Sacks and QB touches/pressure. He only played in 5 games. >We played the majority of the season riddled with major injuries to our defense. Perhaps worse than anyone. It hardly slowed us. How much more dominant we would have been without this terrible is scary to think about. >2 years into the league TE LaPorta has more receptions than any sophomore TE in history. >Gibbs and Monty have shattered run tandem records. >Kerby Joseph has earned the 2024 interception title >Goff is already arguably the best Lions QB in our 60+ year history. A ring will likely solidify that status. >Vikings announced they had purchased x2000 ford field lower bowl tix for $900 each, and were making them available to Minny fans for $200 each. Essentially taking a $1.6 mil loss to try and invade our turf. Its being reported that MANY of those tix ended up in Lions fans hands lol. Apparently Detroiters figured out that when you tried to purchase these subsidized tix from Minnesota, all you had to say was "im not a viking season ticket holder, but I was referred by one" and done, tickets are yours loyal viking fan lol. I saw very little purple at the stadium last night. Vikings owner may very well have taken $1.6 million dollar bath to get like 400 fans into ford field... YIKES! There's only a couple of way I can see this team screwing up what should be an easy "dynasty". 1. Goff starts to decline at some point and we are unable to replace him. There's going to be a crucial time period in the coming years when this team is still in its prime, but Goff is aging out. Its going to be insanely important to draft a solid QB and insert him as starter at the correct time. Ideally after at least 1 or more years of study under Goff. Therefore we probably need to make serious play for a high level QB in the draft in the next 0-3 years. Any Joey Harringtons and we're in trouble... 2. While the team is setup for longterm future sucess in many key positions, our probowl level O line is going to age quickly. Zeitler, Decker, and Glasgow are all in their 30s now. Ragnow isnt far behind. We have some good kids like Mahogany, but nothing is certain yet. To replace these guys we are going to potentially have to draft 1-3 high level blockers over the next few years. That could take multiple years of drafting. Adressing that need means directing draft capital away from other positions. So hitting on young line men at the draft will be extremely crucial to continue solid protection for an aging Goff and/or young newcomer QB. This offense could be flipped on its head without the people mover O line... 3. Glenn and Johnson brain drain - Assuming these two truly are geniuses, and their departure exposes Dan as a regarded meathead with no true tactics beyond inspiring men... Doubtful of this, but a reasonable possibility none the less. Team has to prepare some new, and more powerful, apprentices like yesterday. Fortunately it looks like Teddy Bridgewater is already going down that path. 4. Contracts - proper pruning of the roster is what makes or breaks NFL teams. Cap bonus penalties from bad contracts can destroy anyone. Brad and Dan have proved they can build a roster... it remains to be seen if they are shrewd enough to maintain one. This means letting great players like Davis, Reader, Anzalone, even Montgomery, walk at contract end. Getting trapped into contracts like the Saints, like the wings were with Ericsson, Abby, Nielsen, will kill the lions, but worse in the NFL because of bonus structure. I already am not completely thrilled with the Monty re-sign. Gibbs has proved he can handle the load and is in his prime. Monty could save him health and mileage.. but hes what already 28 or 29? The wall for running backs comes quick. Dont wanna be wasting cap on a guy that Vaki can replace in a year or so. Anyway thats my ted talk. TLDR: Lion dynasty now. Campbell is the GOAT. Get off our bandwagon regard fans whos teams didnt make the playoffs. We are not your charity underdog playoff girlfriend team "you hope wins for the story" and cause we deserve it cause lol so bad for so longgg. Fuq you. We hate you. You clowned on us for years. I would sooner kill u and drink your blood than let u even steal a glance at holy jared. -
