Props to Jimmy so far. He has been terrific. The ice and refs are a disgrace. The Joe has better ice in June.

If only the Tigers focused as hard on drafting position players as they do pitchers... I'm quite stoked about Jacob Turner though. Oliver too if he learns how to control his secondary pitches. You don't get many lefties throwing 95 MPH. Everyone around Tigers camp seems pretty high on Andy Dirks in the OF. Plenty of competition to go around for reserve spots in the outfield with Boesch, Wells, Kelly, Dirks and Clete Thomas back. Good thing because we need some defensive replacements in the corners for Raburn and Maggs. 29 days and counting...

Dean must have missed the "hook" on Helm which resulted in a Kings goal.

It's not like Hank is some run-of-the-mill forward in his own right. No, he's clearly nowhere near as flashy as Pavel, but Zetterberg is top ten in scoring and I personally believe he doesn't get near enough recognition for the Selke. The best player in the NHL can't escape Henrik's shadow every time they play. Again, I'm not taking away anything Pavel accomplishes as we are incredibly blessed to have both players. I just don't think it's fair to discount what Hank brings to the team in order to make Pavel's case stronger. I hate to make the comparision, but there's a lot of Stevie Y in Zetterberg.

I like Raburn batting 2nd until Sizemore is ready.

2011 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 28th, 3:00 PM ET

Vancouver certainly got better. Subtle moves, but addressed their need for depth on the bottom two lines. Yes I know, they need to win when it matters, but damn that is one stacked team. -
I would have preferred to see how Jimmy stacks up in the playoffs again before giving him two more years, but hopefully this is some motivation for him to ramp up his game. I'm not crazy about this deal, but I'd love Jimmy to prove me wrong.

Agreed. He hasn't been noticeable at all lately. I think he's the least deserving of the "fringe" forwards to dress when everyone is healthy. Hell, Draper has had more of an impact than Abdelkader this season. Not giving up on him, but hopefully he can pick it up down the stretch because I think his energy could be a huge asset in the playoffs again.

Nope, but it sure would be nice. I'll take anyone on defense that is physical and will clear the front of the net and block some frickin shots. This team as constructed on defense right now is way too soft on opponents. Stuart is the only d-man that ever uses his body when Ericsson and Salei most definitely should. I'm not getting my hopes up. I agree with the sentiment that Holland will likely stand pat and call Filppula and Modano our deadline additions even though neither of those two have any bearing on the Red Wings inability to keep the puck out of their net.

I just can't defend Joe Dumars any longer. An expiring contract (Caron Butler) and a first round pick for Tayshaun Prince and he rejects it? You have got to be kidding. I would be kissing the Mavericks feet for taking Prince. He's a whiner, horrible offensive player and for all of his hype about defense - he hasn't been a decent shutdown defender in many years. Besides, what future does Prince have on this team with Daye and Jerebko already filling the small forward position? I want to hear the rationale for NOT doing the deal. And if Dumars says it's because he wants Prince back next year, Dumars shouldn't be around long enough to give him a new contract. This is a disgrace - every player on the Pistons should have been trade bait besides Monroe, Daye, Jerebko and Bynum.

Embarrassing. I thought Cabby announced he was done with this garbage last year after the fiasco in 2009. He's so incredibly talented on the baseball field, but man what a disaster away from it. I will root for him because he's a Tiger, but otherwise domestic violence and DUI doesn't scream to me Curtis Granderson as a human being.

I voted for the 2002 team, but the 2008 team was my personal favorite. The 2008 Red Wings put on a clinic every night in puck possession and defense. Ahh... the days of defensive responsibility.

I think Kindl has been just fine relative to his role. I'm more disturbed by our six million dollar d-man that can't play defense.

I'm not a huge fan of McCrimmon because the results speak for themselves, but most of the blame needs to go on the guys actually playing the game. The top four is the same defense core of 2008 and that team was lights out defensively. Maybe McCrimmon's schemes are faulty, but since none of us know for a fact, I'm going to assume the guys on defense just haven't focused for 2.5 years running now. Remember the regular season of 2009? The Red Wings couldn't keep the puck out of the net and then April came around and they were back close to 2008 form in their own zone. So they clearly can do it even with McCrimmon behind the bench. I think the defensive performance this season is even more glaring because Howard is nowhere near the level that he was a year ago. I know many here that say the goaltending has been hung out to dry, but Jimmy Howard deserves plenty of blame for the Red Wings giving up 3-5 goals every night they take the ice since December. Everyone needs a scapegoat, but I'm blaming this entire team because I know they can play defense if they want to. It's lack of focus and my hope is that "flipping the switch" in April doesn't completely backfire. Bad habits don't go away quickly. They need to clamp down on defense down the stretch or we'll have a nice long summer to find someone to blame.

For someone that ******* NON-STOP about others complaining, you sure do a ton of frickin complaining about other people. Every post I read from you is a ***** fest about something another poster said. Aussie is one of the most knowledgable people here on Red Wings prospects and there's nothing wrong with following Ritola and wanting him to succeed still. Too bad we can't ship you away to another team's board. Everyone would love that move.

According to the Yahoo! game preview for tonight, the Red Wings have never been shutout three times in a row in franchise history. I'm a little surprised by that. Let's hope it stays that way.
-
Datsyuk on a line with Hudler. I could see that working out nicely especially with Cleary to do the dirty work on that line. I'm probably in the minority, but I actually prefer Z and Pavel on different lines. Go Red Wings! Turn that light on please.
-
A depth d-man maybe like Staios would be nice. Ideally, I would prefer Regehr but unfortunately the Flames have put themselves back in the playoff race lately. I'm not even going to pretend like I know what the asking price is for either or depth d-men in general. I'll leave that part to Holland.

27-20 Green Bay, Rodgers MVP. Go Pack Go! F Roethlisberger, Crosby and the city of Pittsburgh.

Howard hasn't been "hot" for going on a year now. Actually, I probably would have taken Rinne still. I think Jimmy Howard has the potential to be a quality starting goaltender in this league, but I've always had my doubts even during Howard's amazing run through last March. The playoffs and this season only further my questions about Howard's ability to be a consistent goaltender. Why ask a question if you answered it for me anyways?
-
I'd take Rinne over Howard every day of the week. .931 save percentage, 2.04 GAA and 4 shutouts. Not to mention, Rinne doesn't get the luxury of having an offense that scores 4-5 goals most nights to bail out subpar goaltending. Rinne is definitely elite this season. Howard has shown no signs of performing anywhere near Rinne's level since last March.
-
Tonight was by no means Jimmy's fault, but it made me really think on the last time Howard put up a performance like Mason's. The offense isn't going to score 4-5 goals every game and the biggest difference to me with Howard from last season is his complete inability to steal a game or keep the team in it on a not so strong night offensively. He did it all the time last season and I don't recall a start since maybe before December or so where you could look at and say Howard "won" the game for the Red Wings. Otherwise, it was just a terrible game. I don't think Franzen or Rafalski passed to a guy in the right sweater once. I hate watching this team try to finesse their way into the opponents zone especially with a man (or two) advantage. Dump it in, outnumber them down low and go to work in the corners. East-West passes at the blue line are a waste.
