I'm not ready to give up on Jimmy Howard entirely, but I'd hate to see such a strong team bow out early in the playoffs because of goaltending. Right now Howard is not getting the job done even though I definitely agree that the team's defense has let him down in many instances. That being said, I hope Chris Osgood gets healthy in early March and gets a string of starts down the stretch and regains his form heading into the playoffs. I think the Red Wings best option in goal for when it matters is Ozzie. Babcock just needs to give him a chance to get there.

Knowing the Red Wings, it's probably unlikely, but I think Mursak deserves to keep playing ahead of Draper and even Abdelkader when the injured guys get back.
-
I'll take the under on Inge hitting .240.
-
I never got my hopes up, but it would have been nice. Get well (real) soon Oz.

Exactly. I was at the game today and the thing that stood out most to me was the Red Wings complete inability to defend the front of their net. All four Chicago goals were point blank. Put a body on someone, at least make it tough to gain position. I don't buy the refs will call interference either - opponents do it all the time to Holmstrom. Rafalski is a disaster. He turns the puck over at an alarming rate. I don't think Jimmy has been very reliable, but I'm having trouble finding much fault with him for any of the goals against today. I just hate knowing the Wings need five to win right now seemingly every time they take the ice. Gotta clean up the defensive zone coverage, turnovers, penalty kill woes or having the full complement of forwards back means very little. I'm very worried about this team's defense. A two-month stretch of garbage defense is more than just injuries. If anything, the defense should tighten up with so much offensive production lost. I thought Mursak was the best skater today. Franzen has 20 goals, but you watch him and wonder how. He floats or is invisible nearly the entire game. Can't wait for the ASG. The Red Wings desperately need a break.

You have no reading comprehension. We get it.

I should be more excited, but I'm just not. Howard, MacDonald... this team lets in 4-5 goals regardless of the goalie.

Crosby: Concussion Hiding from Z Please win Red Wings.

The Wings? I'm kidding. Kinda.

Verlander-Scherzer-Turner-Oliver-Crosby? That rotation is going to be sick someday.
-
Love the Brad Penny move. I'm not sold on Coke as a starter and Penny is far better than Galarraga at the back end of the rotation when healthy. Rick Porcello is the Tigers x-factor this season. If he comes back strong, the Tigers should win the division. If he's more of last year then I don't like their chances as much. Defense is very bad, still wish we only had one of Inge or Peralta. Not sure how we get to Valverde yet either. The potential with Zumaya, Perry, Schlereth, etc. is exciting but a lot could go wrong there too. Make or break for Dombrowski. This team needs to make the playoffs if Ilitch is willing to shell out the big bucks to attract talent.

I agree with the Miles part. I don't really have a reaction to the Hoke move either. It doesn't really "wow" you, but sometimes those are the best hires. He recruits well and most of all he understands Michigan - he's already a step ahead of RR with the alumni/boosters and fans there. I hope it works out for Michigan, even being a Notre Dame fan. I want those games in early September to mean something special again soon. College football is better all the way around when UM and ND are relevant.

It's not even close. I don't see how anyone could suggest Jimmy Howard deserves to go to the ASG. Wins: Howard 22 - Price 21 GAA: Price 2.31 - Howard 2.78 Save Percentage: Price .921 - Howard .907 Price has 4 shutouts, Howard 2. So besides playing for arguably the best team in the league and accumulating wins, Carey Price is destroying Howard.

That Draper errant shot reminded me of Williams in game four three against the Sharks last year. How do you miss by that much?
-
He's minus three, but Hank looks strong again tonight. He'll bury one of these quality scoring chances.

Oh God forbid a fan ever has a negative comment about their team with you. Everything is whining to you. I've been consistent with my comments regarding Howard lately. If you think one comment is trolling because I was/am upset with Howard's play, then I have nothing else to offer. Make your excuses on why the team isn't performing. It's not like Howard hasn't been having outings like this for over a month now or anything.
-
Go away for real. No one wants to hear your smart ass comments for anytime someone criticizes the Red Wings.
-
Should have went after Roloson... Howard is so inconsistent. By the time Ozzie gets back, it will almost be the playoffs. We're in big trouble with this goaltending.
-
I'm fine with the deal as long as the Pistons... A. Do not give up their first round pick in ANY circumstance B. Do not take Petro Otherwise, let's get Rip's salary out of here.

I have to give Howie props today because I have been tough on him lately. He stole that game for the Red Wings last night and that's the type of goaltending they need going forward on a more consistent basis. I hope he can build off that performance and get back to the form he displayed a season ago. The defense was so much stronger last night. I think one player that deserves some praise this season is Nik Kronwall. The offensive numbers are there, but he's quietly turned into a top pairing d-man in his own zone. I feel as confident with Kronwall out there as I do with Lidstrom. I love how reliable Kronner has become and we need that especially now with Stuart out. Luongo is a whiny flop too. He'll stop pulling that garbage if the refs don't bail him out there. I don't think a player that big should collapse simply from contact made with his skate. Great win all-in-all. I'm proud of them for that effort being extremely short-handed against the hottest team in the league. That was a playoff-like win last night and that gives me more confidence that the Red Wings can win games in that manner when it counts.

Harbaugh is a great fit for the 49ers. The Niners are closer to true contention than the Dolphins for a number of reasons. 49ers already have a strong foundation if they can find an adequate QB. They are strong on both lines and with Harbaugh's fundamentals in that division, the 49ers could be a playoff team very quickly. I would think Michigan needs to hire a coach rather soon to salvage recruits less than a month from NSD. Obviously there's going to be some turnover with any coaching change, but Michigan has some solid verbals in this class that the new coach will need to keep around.

The NHL is cool. They are all over hooking calls 200 feet from the play, but can't even correctly call an intentional headshot that results in an injury. There better be a lengthy suspension for this, yet somehow I doubt it. Stuart is so damn reliable back there. More minutes now for Lidstrom and Rafalski, which isn't ideal as we need them both as fresh as possible for the playoffs. These past two seasons have been a disaster. Also, who cares if we have an enforcer there? Stuart is still out with an injury so I don't feel any better if someone beats the s*** out of Kostopoulis AFTER the fact.
