The thing they're missing is veteran leadership. The team is young. I expect their hangover will be longer than most because there won't be a guy in the room with clout to get the team back to working. Figure they back into the playoffs next season and never really get on the roll like they did this season. Really, as has been said, the parity in the league is going to make for a lot more "streaky" champions than "powerhouse" champions. You're going to see some teams that are in contention every year but don't necessarily win (like our Wings). LA might have the core in place to move into that group.

Puck tape? Ah-HA! That's how the Preds are beating us. Bastards are putting tape on the pucks!
-
So, that's all 3 for Kopecky, straight up? Which side has to throw in the obligatory bag of practice pucks? It's not a true internet forum trade unless somebody is giving up a bag of pucks or a roll of stick tape.

This is the problem with the Wings' "overripe" approach. Emmerton has shown enough that they want to hang on to him, but they waited until he was completely out of minors eligibility to find out. They need to let a prospect go thru his rookie growing pains while they've still got options. Otherwise, you discover a kid's a borderline NHLer but you're stuck keeping him on the big league roster because you'll lose him on waivers.

I hate it when I'm right. -
Shea Weber fined for Zetterberg "headslam"

We actually think Bettman will allow one of his southern expansion teams to lose a key player? Against Detroit? Not a chance. Weber gets a fine, a "strongly worded" public admonishment, and a quiet handshake from Bettman when nobody's looking. -
Darren Helm out for playoffs with lacerated wrist
dteowner replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Which means that, at best, he's got severed muscle. I'd say done for the series, if not for the entire playoffs. -
As always, thanks for taking the time to do these.

Hey folks, usually listen to online radio stream from 97.1, but they're doing the Lions game. Is there another station that will pick up the radio coverage?

The first clip and the second clip aren't the same incident. din758 is reacting to the second clip. For my part, the suspension seems very long. I could see the guy getting tossed since he clearly left his feet for the hit, but I don't see any elbows flying (admittedly, the video isn't great) and the puck was in the neighborhood. edit- after a few more views, I'm not even sure the guy left his feet for the hit. He might have "hopped" just before taking a shoulder right in the stomach.

Looking at the two paintings shown in the second link, I've got to say that Vlady ain't half bad as an artist. Definitely inspirational.

Not sure why I didn't think of that. Thanks!

Speaking of, is there an easy way to tell which channel is the Detroit feed (I'm getting it thru DirectTV if that matters)? Since the guide shows 2 channels (actually 3 counting the HD) for the game, I want to make sure I don't record a bunch of Ottawa slappies. Sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first opportunity to tinker with Center Ice.

The Official NHL Suspension Thread

The Shanny clip is up at NHL.com. The Leaf is out for the remainder of preseason plus 2 regular season games. TSN must have pooched their report. -
Love it, as always. I think I actually prefer it without the player--those pics were very nice but they tended to make for a very busy desktop. Love the little details (jerseys for game day) within the calendar, too. Thanks for the effort!

Everyone has rejoined the team for skating...except one player...

Ah, but does he suck? -
You just know that kid will spend the next 10 years of his life bragging to his friends about how he got "freight-trained by Jonathan frickin' Toews". Iz all good.

Malts was my favorite player, but this post is spot on. If you want to laugh until you cry, you need to hear this post in your head with the right voice. Think James Earl Jones, or the NFL Films narrator. Well done, good sir. Unfortunately, threads like this show why Dipwad Gary is a marketing genius. We all hate Crys-by. I wouldn't piss on him if his hair was on fire. And yet...the punk hasn't seen the ice in 6 months and we still can't stop talking about him.

Islanders Hosting Party to Celebrate Fight Night
dteowner replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Really, folks? What was the #1 requested game for the History of Hockeytown dvd set? The Brawl in Hockeytown (we've even given that game a name!). Let's not get too far up those high horses. -
Exactly. Miller's a solid player and the contract is about right, but is Miller a progress stopper for our kids? I could see Miller becoming a locker room problem if he spends much time in the press box again. He didn't take it all that well last season.

Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract
dteowner replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
With the cap going up and Eaves being a known quantity (unlike most 4th line plugs we could have gotten instead), that's probably about the right price. Probably not cause for wild celebration, but a solid contract for a solid player. -
Well, we started with hoping Rig would just go away. Dream crushed. Then, we moved on to hoping the numbers were wrong. Dream crushed. Now, we're left clinging to a thread that there's a sign-n-trade in works. We're desperate, we is. Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my sanity to keep, if Rig's still a Wing when I awake, I pray some sucker team this contract will take. A-frickin-men.

$3.25mil per year? You've got to be kidding.

Looks like Boychuk rode Raymond into the boards without allowing him to stand up. Basically forced Raymond to go in butt-first rather than spreading the impact over his entire back. I'd probably classify it in the same category as Chara's hit in Montreal--completely legal but intentionally dickly.
