IMO this offseason is about re-signing the right contracts and adding a D-man. Wondering what everyone thinks about our expiring contracts and what they will get. I think Alfredsson (retirement) Bertuzzi (retirement) and Cleary (sucks) will be gone, but I listed them anyway in case they come back.

I'm ASSUMING this means at least one of Helm or Datsyuk will be out a long time. Maybe both.
It's a rental, he's a decent player. It's a good trade as long as we didn't have to give up a 1st or a decent prospect. We almost 100% needed to pick up help on center if we're gonna be without Datsyuk and Helm. And IF by some miracle we make the playoffs, Legwand could help us there too.

Or more shutdown D that aren't named Ericsson or Lashoff. Matt Greene or Mark Stuart are what our blue line needs. The skill will come with Ouellet and Sproul in the next couple years. Our blue line needs less Quincey and Kindl.

Just for a bit of fun I thought about the scenario that, what if the kids had started from the start of the season instead of the current 4 vets that are out of the lineup. Due to being injured,scratched or demoted. So without further ado here are the results of my findings, which can be classed in anyway you want to judge them.
I have taken the current stats of Bert, Dan, Sammy and Stephen and compared their projected totals for 56 games against those of Gus,Riley and the 2 Tom's projected outputs.
At their present scoring rate after 56 games the combined vets have a total of 37 points, 18+19 . This moment in time they have played a total of 148 games for 26 points with a -35 rating. Which would be -50 over the combined 224 games. Broken down, Bertuzzi 8+6 -20, Cleary 4+5 -12, Weiss 4+4 -9 and Samuelsson 2+4 -9. Not good eh?
At the other end of the age scale we get a more happier outlook as fans.With the projected combined total of 126pts, 58+68. At present they have played a combined 111 games for 63 points with a +12 rating. This would be projected to be a +22 rating for the combined 224 games. The kids personal stats project as Nyqvist 24+18 +9, Tatar 16+13 +6, Sheahan 11+24 +7 and Jurco 7+13 even rating. This looks alot better overall for the team in general, i know these are hypothetical but which ever way you look at it all, the stats are more positive for the kids.
I know most of the spotlight has fallen on Gus and Tats but i think Riley and Tomas have done outstanding with Riley surprising me the most. Jurco will become a top top player and the thought of him and Mantha on the same line could be a very dangerous line for years to come.
Full steam ahead guys, and lets hope a couple of our D prospects can have the same sort of impact next year.

But with the success our kids have had, is rather try another one that we need to figure out the future of playing than cleary.

Dan Cleary is 2nd on my list of disposable players. At least he occasionally provides a net-front presence. But if by some miracle Sammy is moved/dropped, Cleary is next in my sights to clear up some room for the kids. He floats, is injury prone, and worst of all is a drain on the cap. I could handle the first 2 at $1mil per year, but this is a little sad.
Still a better option than Sammy though, what has he done this season? I would trade them both for minor leaguers and bring Tootoo/Eaves up in a minute.

We will win game 6 guys. Just relax. Chicago was too good to go down in 5. Simple as that. I am amazed we won game 4 honestly. I kept telling people at work all day on game 4 day that it would be 'too good to be true' to go up 3-1 in the series. But we did. Now Chicago has the daunting taks of coming to a college like atmosphere in Detroit again. We are winning this in 6!

Bottom line is our Wings played well, not good enough, but well. The only glaring thing for me was our break out, sloppy turnovers which will be addressed. Ducks came out flying in the second and definitely rattled our young d core, growing pains indeed. Babs and co. have to address this for sure, our lads will prevail, keep the faith! Wings in 6!

The Wings looked timid in transition from their own zone. Too many giveaways allowing The Ducks rushing opportunities. Better team won tonight, let's make sure the same happens on thursday with the Wings being the better team. Road PK has been a problem all year, and needs to be better. Andersson should get an earful for giving Selanne the diving opportunity, and Kindl needs to be more composed on the puck. The perils of having a young, inexperienced team, I guess.

Not a horrendous game, but the Ducks played better and deserved the win in the end. Liked the Nyquist line as the game progressed. Datsyuk wasn't as dominant as usual but I liked Zetterberg and Franzen's game. Ducks really forechecked our D hard and it was tough to get out of the zone. Hopefully the Wings will have a little more intensity for game 2.

andersson isn't even the same type of player as sammy, so this one is just dumb, I agree we need to lose sammy, but not for andersson
once again abby is a much different player than tatar, he is a big body 4th line grinder, tatar is a small fast skilled shooter
colo should go if he can't stay healthy, and he gets payed 1.775 mil more then lashoff not 1mil

Just checked the standings today. Before trade deadline, I was pretty confident that we would make it in but today not very confident at all. Edmonton is getting hot. We know what St. Louis did to bolster their roster. Columbus added a piece and can get streaky. There is always Nashville. This might be the year that our guys get the longest summer ever. Holland didn't do enough.

A little early, but good to have this thread. I look forward to the trade deadline, as always. Even if we don't do anything, always fun to be able to sit back and watch the fireworks.
