GDT ADQF | Game 3 | Boston 3 @ Detroit 0, BOS leads series 2-1
stormboy replied to FlashyG's topic in General
The whole dump-and-chase thing has not worked a single time tonight. I thought our speed was supposed to be our advantage. Every single battle on the boards has been won by the Bruins. Way to get shut out and embarrassed at home guys. -
GDT ADQF | Game 3 | Boston 3 @ Detroit 0, BOS leads series 2-1

If I were the Bruins, and it was any team but the Wings, I would be worried about a home team third period power play. But, it's the Wings. This year. Non-threatening. -

The Wings are the least intimidating team in the universe right now. -

Wings lucked out in game 1 IMO. It seems pretty clear that this is how the rest of this series is going to go. -
BJs go up early and the Pens go on a parade of powerplays...

Toooooo....easy.

I thought the call on Schultz was weak, but the call on Helm...my goodness.

Is there a way to quantify leads given up after 10:00 in the second?

GDT 3/14 GDT : Edmonton Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2 (F/SO)
stormboy replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I was shocked that they didn't bring the young guys out. Jesus. -
Having to watch the Florida broadcast; I was impressed by their analysis of the unsportsmanlike call.
-
If those last two calls were made on a Wings player, I'd be pissed. I think.
-
rough no-call there

Boy, you're not kidding.

Nice goal by Prospal. Of ******* course this was going to happen. Two goal lead mere minutes in and we can't tickle the ******* twine for the next 30, nor hold a lead.

Haven't posted on here in a few years. But I just wanted to say that I really, really hope they don't cough this one up entirely tonight. A point is still something, but this one will really hurt. Even more than the Nashville loss.

Shanahan reveals some details on process he will take for discipline
stormboy replied to CenterIce's topic in General
It seems to me that Shanny is a great guy for the job. I totally agree with the idea of releasing at the very least a statement on every situation that comes before the board, so we as fans can try to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Any idea if these videos will be released to the general public or just sent to teams? -
It's a thought experiment. It's like when people are given the question, "Would you kill a crying baby to protect a dozen people from a Nazi patrol," and someone answers, "I'd raise a Zombie army and defeat the Nazis -- don't even have to worry about the baby!" If you don't like the question and its parameters, don't participate. As for me, the answer is obviously Datsyuk. That doesn't mean that I don't love Z, or that I don't think he's an amazing combination of shutdown forward + goal scorer, which is rare. But his health (back) problems always seem to be one check away from sidelining him for a few weeks, and he seems to be slowing down, despite being younger than Dats. My subjective feeling is that when we're down and need something amazing, Dats is more likely to pull it off than Z.

Jason Williams signs 1 year contract with Pittsburgh
stormboy replied to winger30's topic in General
I can't find a video for it, but I remember a game wherein Williams was on a long goal-scoring drought, and he was in all alone on an empty net. I remember Ken Daniels saying, "He needs this!" only to hear *tink* as J-Willy hit the outside of the post. I'm sure I was pissed at the time, but I don't think anything more typifies Williams's career. Still, you know he'll score a hattrick against us on score one other goal the entire year. -
I haven't been around the game or the team long enough to take a strong stance either way, but I read someone else say that if there's a debate, then the answer should be "No". To me, Yzerman: no debate. Lidstrom: no debate. With Datsyuk and Z, only time will tell (though IM(very)HO there will be at least a debate, which perhaps answers the question for both of them). There's obviously a lot of back-and-forth when it comes to Ozzie, with some feeling that there shouldn't be a back-and-forth because his number SHOULD be retired while others think there shouldn't be a back-and-forth because it SHOULDN'T. With Lidstrom, there will be no debate in any form. There wasn't with Yzerman. To me, that's the difference.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see where this all goes. My gut reaction is that NBC Sports has more legitimacy than "Versus," and obviously they think that viewers in general will feel the same. I also think it's good for the sport to be associated with a major network in name (as opposed to actually being associated with NBC financially, but not in name). When the NHL was on OLN, it was a joke -- football is on Monday nights in prime time and hockey is sandwiched between bass fishing and 'coon skinning. Versus was an improvement, but NBC Sports just...feels better. Yes. As far as I know, this doesn't affect any of the local FS networks (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But the nationally broadcast games will now be on NBC Sports rather than Versus (those being the games that we had to tune in to not on FSD already).

MIDSEASON DEAL SENDS HIM TO DETROIT? git 'er done, kenny!

Yahoo! story (not sure if this deserved its own thread or not--mods, feel free to merge into SCF thread) Raymond out 3-4 months with broken vertebrae. Surprised he wasn't taken off the ice on a stretcher. I didn't expect there to be any disciplinary action stemming from this hit, but wondered what others' opinions on the play were. on the slow-motion replay, it looks a little bit like Boychuk adds a little extra force to the hit right when Raymond hits the boards, but, at least to me, it's hard to tell if he was actually driving him into the boards or if he's just hitting with the impact of their inertia. Didn't seem like a dirty play, just an unfortunate circumstance. There was one quote from the article that stood out to me: Doesn't seem like the best thing to say in this situation. I get that that's how he feels, and I don't really have a problem with that, but saying, "Bah, dude's got a broken back -- we've got a GD game to play!" seems a little...insensitive. Again, don't have a huge problem with him focusing more on the game, but one wonders why he didn't spin a little more concern to the media. Thoughts?

yeah, that's a good point: the article doesn't specify when he made the comments. i agree that he can say whatever he wants, but the comment just got a bit of an eyebrow raise. i think the crowd was chanting "flopper," which in retrospect is obviously not what raymond was doing, but given the recent history of the canucks, not surprising in the moment.

i love how eager calls out bieksa in the media when it was marleau who challenged bieksa to fight. meanwhile, he's pulling his typical goonery. maybe it's because we just played them, and maybe it's because i feel like they beat us when they didn't really deserve to (flukey OT goal in a series that goes seven games), but the sharks have certainly become my number-one most hated team (replacing anaheim) in recent times.
