I recommend watching some Wings games. Then, when you say, "This is a crap poduct that I find unwatchable," your complaint will carry more weight.

I've seen enough of the Blashill Red Wings to know it is not worth my hard earned money or my time. I follow the team through LGW, through highlights, through my fantasy league, and through fans still watching and complaining etc. I am comfortable saying what I say without wasting hours to watch garbage on ice. I've seen several instances of the vast improvement to the team over-all when a good coach is in control.

I recommend voicing your concern by hitting them where it hurts... do not spend any money on Red Wing anything until changes are made.

I kinda think you're complaining just to complain. You hate losing, I get it. We all do. Fair enough.

Personally, I feel we're a couple of really good pieces away from being a respectable playoff team and maybe a contender. Those pieces will probably come to us through the draft or through trades that we're able to make because we've amassed so many good assets through the draft. I'm content to wait a couple of years for those pieces. In the meantime, Blashill can keep doing his thing. Holland has pretty much said this is the plan.

When we get to a point where we can point to a core group of high-end guys and say, "OK, we have our core. Now is the time for us to be competing for Cups," then maybe you move on from Blashill. I just don't think that time is right now. I don't look at this team and think to myself, "This team should be doing way better than it is." This team is exactly where it deserves (and needs) to be: in the basement.

I'm not complaining just to complain. I'm old and have seen and played a lot of hockey... Dead Wings sucked if you wanted to see winning and I was a HUGE fan. Besides a tonne of losing they had scoring, they had fighting, they had old washed up stars and they were fun to watch. They made it tough on opponents. I have to pay to watch Red Wing games where I live and the 1st 2 seasons under Blashill I did pay but found that I couldn't watch such a confused looking mess. By the sound of things is hasn't improved much if at all. I'm complaining because I think we need change to both the GM and coaching positions. I want to watch my Wings play again and I want a team worth paying for and this isn't it.

    Try to win.

Losing/tanking can breed a bad culture within the Red Wings organization.

I understand we need to be bad for a few years in order to possibly obtain hi-end talent, but then again look at teams like the Oilers, Isles, Sabres, Yotes, and a few others...They've been bad for years, and chances are (regardless of their recent play) they may very well not make the playoffs again.

As I mentioned in another post - I don't expect Coach Q to make this team a playoff contender - I expect him to make this team look somewhat competent, and a legit NHL franchise.

    Yes! Spot on.

Babcock is an outstanding coach who specializes in getting the most out of what he's given (unless that entails winning the Cup, in which case he's mostly just a master of the choke job). I've no doubt the team would be performing better under Babcock.

But here's the thing (*AGAIN*): I don't want better performance. At least, not at the team level.

Babcock dragging this team into the playoff picture does nothing for us, at least not in a material way. If we get a "Coach Q" and we finish just outside/inside the playoff picture for the next three years, everyone will go from complaining about Blashill's "terrible coaching" to complaining about how the Wings are stuck in No Man's Land and aren't rebuilding properly.

We don't need a complete rebuild we are well on the way and have some great young players in the system.... and sucking the most doesn't guarantee anything. I think you could put McDavid on this team and it would have minimized impact due to a terrible coach and system. Look at all the talent that Edmonton has from years at the bottom and yet they have not yet found a coach that is good enough to get all that talent to work together. The coach is key  to a team coming together and moving in the right direction... if not team Canada should win just about every Olympic game with a mascot on the bench.

Those teams were better than this team. In the absence of elite insulation, those players -- DeKeyser, Helm, et al. -- are now being forced to take on tougher roles. The result: They're being exposed as thoroughly mediocre players.

Or perhaps their talents were recognized and used in a better way by a great coach? Helm is mediocre and always has been (a faster draper to me) and yet Babs found a way to maximize his specific skill set and he thrived. This team shouldn't have been in the playoffs even in the last few years under Babs and he managed to get the most out of what he had and made it all work as best he could.

Quenneville was fired because he couldn't do anything with a team that's more talented than our team. What makes anyone think he's a great coach for kids? What makes anyone think he wants any part of a rebuilding team that's bereft of elite talent?

Literally the only thing that matters is how our kids are doing -- and, again, our kids are doing fine. Larkin's a point-per-game 1C right now and he's going to be the next captain. Bertuzzi is scoring. AA is scoring. Mantha's in a funk, but he scored 24 goals last season. Cholowski is a revelation. Rasmussen's developing. Veteran and top trade chip Nyquist is scoring at almost a point-per-game clip.

Our record sucks because our team sucks. Which is fine, because our team needs to suck. Sucking for an extended period of time is the only way out of this hole. Blashill is delivering on the sucking part of the equation and I see no solid evidence that he's hurting players' development. And, again, most available coaches probably wouldn't want to come to Detroit anyway, especially with GM change probably coming soon. (New GM probably gets to pick his coach.)

What happened to the "human eraser"? The kid that stepped in out of college and had an immediate impact? He was thriving under a real coach and has withered since his departure. What about "the best 3rd line C in the league" as named by Babs? Withered as well. Larkin has finally been thrust into the 1C spot but I would bet my saving that if Z were around Blashill would be doing hand-stands on that crutch as he has in the past... lean on the crutch to try to mask his inabilities. Heck, keep Blashill under Q (or another good coach) and hope in the very far future he learns and is worth the wait but having him "learn to drive on the track during a race" is a bad strategy and it is showing so on the ice.

  7. As has been mentioned... good coaches are hard to come by and one just became available, it is bad management not to pursue it. Love or hate Blashill his record speaks volumes and he has had enough time to figure things out by now. This is not a Stanley cup wining roster but I do believe it can be a lot more competitive and miserable to play against... it is neither. I've been a Wings fan since the early 80's and watched through the Dead Win era and despite a tonne of losing the team was still a lot of fun to watch, this teams play is BO-RING. Think of the difference when Scotty took the reigns and then gave them to Dave Lewis... same team basically with very different results (I don't think Lewis is even coaching in the league anymore). Then from Lewis to Babcock.... BIG change. Now Babcock to Blashill a big change again in the wrong direction. A good coach is a difference maker. Motivates his player and gets the most out of them plus has a good strategies... I see none of that with Blashill. We have a young, big and fast team... we should be at least a team that every other team dreads playing against and we are not even close.

  8. Scotty is not available but Quenneville is and Yzerman has publicly made it known he will be... they both also have winning in their blood. Or maybe we can wait even longer for Blashill to figure things out and for Holland to make more horrible decisions for the future of the team?!?! The on-ice product has been so much fun to watch since the Blashill take-over.

  9. https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/blackhawks-fire-coach-joel-quenneville-and-assistant-coaches/

G'dang'it. Fire Blashill already. Get him off the bench and away from our under-developing youths. Hire a proven coach in Quenneville. The Holland/Blashill tandem sucks b@lls and needs to be terminated. We have given this experiment way too much time and there has been little to no progress and in fact a lot of our players have regressed each year under Blashill. He needs to go back to coaching Pee-wee hockey and Holland needs to clear the way for Stevie to come home. Enough is enough. I did not watch one game last year and will continue my protest until this ends. Fans of the Red Wings need to make their voices heard before we become the Leafs... why make any effort if the company still makes money? Hit them where it hurts them. I don't think Quenneville makes us a cup contender but I do think, as I have said like a broken record, I believe it will make us a hard team to play against right now and then to see progress from there.

  10. I believe we would become instantly more competitive as soon as we get a real NHL calibre coach. We won't be fighting for the cup but we will be a big and fast team that is miserable to play against. Blashill has shown no improvement as a coach, his system(s) suck and I fear the longer he is on the bench the more damage will be done to the development of our young players. Even with the crappy contracts we have I truly believe a good NHL coach would make this exact team far better. How many more years of this experiment will convince people?

  11. I didn't watch one game this year and the same until at the very least Blashill is fired. I believe a GM change would be helpful too but I will give a temporary pass on keeping Holland but Blashill is garbage and has to go... I think 3 seasons of driving in reverse is enough. Look at what Gallant is doing in LV. I believe a real coach would make this same team hard to play against. Blashill stinks but the odour coming from Holland these days isnt much better.

Lmao what kind of source is this? The team is bad I don’t understand what you expect a coach to do. He’s nowhere near the same situation as other playoff caliber teams. If the team is anywhere near the playoff hunt he has done a great job as coach

I can’t believe you guys allow yourself to get so worked up about every aspect of the team when everyone knows they are bad. They are going to do things poorly. Theirs no magic trick that will make them good instantly. Blaming the coach when a half ass roster doesn’t do well is for casuals who don’t understand sports

The roster is not that bad and has lots of room for growth under an effective coach, Blashill is not. 2 years in a row players that were growing under Babcock shrunk under Blashill.... that is 100% his fault.

  13. Oh pretty please, end the failing Blashill experiment now. The longer he is there I feel it will stunt the growth of our youth. I say it is also time for Kenny to move up the ladder and vacate that GM seat too. What pains me the most is not even missing the playoffs but for Babcocks lemon to be blowing at the same time Babcock and the Leafs are soaring (There are few things in life I loathe more then the Leafs). I am wondering if Babcock deliberately lined us up with Blashill as a crap filled going away present knowing what the outcome would be?

  14. 0.

I will boycott this season. I will not spend 1 cent of my hard earned money to watch the Blashill crap on ice fiasco. I'm a long time Red Wing fan, was a fan right on through the Dead Wing era so I have seen the downs and the ups. I can live with losing (i don't like it) but it depends on how we lose. If we are competing hard, growing and learning i can deal with it as it is part of the learning process but to have practically an entire team take a step backwards 2 years in a row now and expecting it to get better is yet another bad decision for Holland. I have to pay for Centre Ice package to watch hockey where I live. I did last year and was completely bored by each game I watched and I didn't watch the rest because of that. Terrible contracts to hang on to mediocre players, poor moves when they do happen and the festering Jeff Blashill disaster setting back out young kids development will keep me out of wasting my time and money. This team as it is can be a play off team with a good coach. Jeff Blashill so far has shown zero signs of being able to improve this teams play.

    BOYCOTT BLASHILL!

This roster is not "too talented" to be playing poorly.  The roster sucks on paper and on the ice.

It is too talented to be playing this poorly. The product on paper sucks because of what is happening on the ice. What is happening on the ice, imho, is the direct and immediate result of an inexperienced NHL coach with a system that doesn't even come close to working and a team 2 years into Blashill's tenure that looks more confused, less prepared and hemorrhaging confidence with each passing minute under Blashills lead. Blashill is a bust and a liability to our future.

Think in the past, we have had rockstar lineups that got pwned by (arguably) inferior teams then this. 2005-6 season comes to mind coached by Craig McTavish.

  16. I don't think we need to throw everything out to start from scratch. The buck HAS to stop with Blashill being run the eff out of town. I truly believe that with a real coach this team will play much much better. Again, not cup contending better but not the pigswill of the league. This is a young team with speed and some goood talent the would be hard team to play against with a real coach.

More important then missing the payoffs in humiliating fashion... If Blashill is not let go and replaced with an experienced coach then it could stunt what little future we have right now. With everyone not named Zetterberg driving their careers in reverse already I am afraid that the longer Blashill is around he may stunt the growth of the kids we have.

I'm indifferent on Holland unless he doesn't get rid of Blashill. Holland gets a few mulligans because he has done way more great things for this team then bad.

  17. I hope Holland has already had converstions with Hitchcock and Blashill..... Hitch to coach and Blashill to waterboy. We need another well known and experienced cock on the bench! A Hitchcock will not be as good as a Babcock but it has to be wooorlds better the the non cock we have now

  18. You can't even compare this garbage to the Dead WIng-era teams. The Dead Wing teams had some star power, had some old favourites that were beyond their primes AND it had to 2 toughest SOBs the league had ever seen... The games were still alot of fun to watch.

This team is so bloody boring. I fell asleep (again) during last nights game it the shots after half the game were LA 19 - Detroit 6... 6 flipping shots on net in almost 2 periods? I'm thinking we could do a whole-sale swap with the Griffin's and we'd be in better shape then now... couldn't be any worse.

  19. 15 hours ago, frankgrimes said:

Well firing Blashill is like changing the tires of your car, it will improve the grip but unless the engine is changed the performance boost will be negligible.

So yeah first Holland and then if the new GM wants his own guy fire Blashill.

I'd go it the other way... give Blashill his walking papers today, hire a real coach, then promote Holland to something out of the GM's chair and get this team moving in the right direction FAST! There is waaaay more talent on this team then what is being shown on the ice... Not saying we are cup contenders but playing a much more competitive brand of hockey is not out of the question with what we have right now. Blashill is not ready and in turn this team is not ready.

    4 minutes ago, ChristopherReevesLegs said:

Yes, but does that mean Babcock was an amazing coach who was getting a lot out of average players and now average players are average under an average coach? Or is the roster ok and Blash just sucks?

Blashill sucks AND Babcock was able to squeeze more out of almost every player on the team

I wish those days had returned.

Those teams were fun as they had Probert, Kocur, and other goons that would be among the league leaders in fights and PIM.  And they had a young star player named Steve Yzerman.

Name me one exciting thing about this team?

    1. It will have a brand-new state of the art Arena to stink up starting next year... that must be exciting to some!?!?!?

1a. No more JLA wizz troughs is actually pretty exciting

  21. This team has the talent to be a fast and hard team to play against but is not. I personally put the blame squarely on Blashill and his terrible system. Get a real coach and this team plays far better.... not cup winning better but worth watching better. I was a fan through the "deadwing" era... That era was filled with many losses and disappointments but it had Yzerman + some washed up stars + Probert and Kocur so it was still fun to watch. This teams play just sucks to watch unless you enjoy watching Pros (some ridiculously over paid like Abdelkader, Helm and....) looking confused, disorganized, uninspired and well not like an NHL team. Blashill has to go and a good coach needs to be found, sooner then later. Maybe a new coach will help us preserve our streak because the way this team is playing right now the streak ends this year.
