To everyone trashing Holland for that one, some questions.
1. What would you have done differently?
Don't give me the excuses like "he should have" its about what you would have done in order to improve this Hockeyclub.
2. How would you have the handled the Suter & Parise situation?
Keep in mind before you answer, they both wanted to play together and in front of their families. They passesd up on an Original Six franchise and also on the chance of playing alongside Malkin, Crosby and Suter being paired with Letang. So this has nothing to do with Detroit's Diamond losing it's shine.
3. Would you be confident with overpaying for at best class B players in order to squeeze into the playoffs and getting our asses handed to us by Vancouver, LA or Nashville?
or maybe just maybe we should pack it in for this season, see what we have in our young-guns, load capspace and offer the world to Getzlaf and Weber next year?
4. What would you have done to prepare for Lidströms retirement?
Save for Burns who went to the Sharks there was absolutely no one outthere, to improve this defense last year!
5. How much more money would you have offered?
Please notice, it wasn't about money for them.
Aside from the obvious questions some of you should ask themselves if you are truely RedWingsFans or fans of winning? Money and tradition aside, you can't win it every year and sometimes you have to go through a reload/tool episode and personally I can't wait seeing our young-guns learning from their mistakes and becoming better players.
Sorry I know I am the new guy here, but some people are acting like the wolrd is coming to an end just because two elite UFAs decided to go elsewhere.

I can't believe that people are trying to blame the Wings because their offer was 0.5M less than Minny's. They went to Minny to play for their hometown team. It had nothing to do with the 0.5M or the fact the the Wings lost in the first round.
To try and spin this into being Kenny's fault is ridiculous.

Has it occured to you that maybe Ilitch wasn't ok with that amount of money? Holland doesn't get to unilaterally make these decisions. 90M was them upping their offer, which Ilitch might not have been crazy about to begin with. I know that we just assume that Ilitch's wealth is unlimited, but maybe things aren't going quite as well these days? Just a thought.

What am I supposed to do be a Homer and predict Stanley Cups every year? I want to win the Cup this year but it doesn't take a genious to realize that they are not winning a Cup this year and I have no shame in admitting it. Also as a result I have a right to vent as per the reasons why no cup is coming this year.

The last tickets I purchased were Game 7 2009 and they blew the Cup and I will not buy anymore Wings tickets unless they are in firm position to win a Cup. I saw the scores of the game at the gym last night and when 10:00 PM est rolled around it said 2-1 Preds I decided to watch CSI and it turned out to be a good choice. I think on Friday I'll watch Grimm and then on Sunday I'll watch the ABC NBA game of the week b/c I am through getting stabbed in the heart by this team!

So after the Preds go up 2-0 in the series on Friday what do the crowd at the Joe chant prior to game 3? I'd say they boo the s*** out of the Wings when they come out of the tunnel and then they need to get some chants going something along the lines of "Sign Suter", "Sign Webber", "Sign Paraise", or how about "Quency Sucks". Well I think the crowd has to send the message loud & clear so Kenny Holland knows what he has to do in the offseason in order to get this team back to 07/08 status and not the 5th or 3rd seed in the conference b/c its completely unacceptable!

Everyone has got to get over the "offer a guy a contract because of loyalty" crap.
Did Malts ever produce much at the nhl level? No, his career high was a 33 point season. Chelios was with us for 10 years, and has warranted just as much loyalty as Malts. Did they offer Chelios a two-way contract last year because it was the "right thing" to do? No they didn't. Holland flat out said that he wasn't offering Chelios a contract. Malts had a better season statistically this past season, than he did in the previous two, and he played his role of a 4th liner, penalty killer, agitator night in and night out. I'm not disagreeing that it was time for Maltby to retire and let the young kids move up and have their chance, but I don't believe Holland would offer any type of contract to a guy that he thought had no chance of fighting for a spot at camp. The point of my original post was for the previous poster to have a little respect for the guy, but I guess in this day and age, very few people have respect for others.

Well I guess it comes down to whose opinion really matters, your boss' opinion of you, or a fan's opinion of you.
Obviously Holland thought he could still do his job competently if he offered him another contract. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have offered him a contract at all.
The day you stop posting here I'm sure people will be saying it's about damn time, because apparently you don't have the competency to make a meaningful contribution to any discussion.

Normally I'm not one to say something about posters making statements like yours, but come on... Grow up and show some respect. Malts played his heart out for 14 years with us, and making the decision to retire was very obviously a difficult thing. Is that what you want people to say about you when you retire? That it's "about damn time"?

You are not the best poster in LGW history. In fact, you are probably the opposite of best.
And before you say something like, "Well I'm sorry that I don't act like a Red Wings homer like everybody else in here." That's not the point.
Of course Maltby's playing days were coming to an end.
This isn't the time/place for that though. It's about celebrating Maltby's career and what he gave to this organization for such a long time.
