Report: Leafs close to deal with Sundin

Actually I always got the impression McCabe wanted to stay in T.O. (has claimed he wanted to stay) - & like Schneider having great years in Detroit - McCabe has had his most success while playing for the Leafs...Having a soft spot for the Leafs I've read on numerous sites that "Cabers" wife is from Long Island (same situation as Pronger) & she wanted him to sign with the Isles, Flyers, or Rangers, or anyone else closer to her "home"...To me he's pretty much the same as Souray; very good offensive ability, physical, will drop the gloves, popular in the dressing room & with the fans, but has some issues in his own end/occasional brain farts. Did JFJ over-pay for McCabe? Well in another month we'll see what other UFA Dmen will get (both Souray & Timonen will get big $$$ as Markov has). IMHO JFJ did strike oil when he was able to re-sign Kaberle to a multi year contract for $4.25 mill per season - he's arguably their best Dman IMHO. If Detroit ever dumped Babs - I'd want Quinn as head coach.

    Holland making Schneider a priority

why does everyone keep reminding me that we're the ones that should be facing off with the Sens? just kiddin'. Cory Sarich, Vitaly Vishnevski, & Craig Rivet are a few guys whom could fill the role that we need on D (stay @ home, physical, drops the gloves every now & again - well Vishnevski won't), but will they be a cheaper/better alternative to Markov?

    Holland making Schneider a priority

Yeah he does look alot like Vladdy, & plays a physical game that resembles Vladdy as well. How about this idea boys & girls....Holland trades Lilja (while his stock is somewhat high), & Hudler for picks/pucks/donuts or whatever...That'll give Holland both 1 spot for an extra Dman (as well as a forward - hello Mr.Torres/Hartnell) and some cap space to re-sign Markov. What it boils down to is whether ya like Markov, or Lilja? Schneider is gonna be re-signed - no question about that. He's played his best hockey here in Detroit, & wants to stick around for a few more years. I'm glad he's staying

Report: Leafs close to deal with Sundin

Sundin is still a 80 pts + per season player, but you're right that he hasn't had any quality wingers...He should take a discount; lets say his salary should be around $4 to $4.5 mill per year so Leafs GM Ferguson Jr could go out & sign a few UFA's, & maybe get an outside chance @ winning it all.

    Sweet What's he like?

Report: Canadiens make offer to Souray

As much as I have to agree with the other posters here concerning Souray not being very good in his own end; I gotta agree with you 100% is that this guy is a team player, he's said to be well liked in the dressing room, and will stand-up for any teammate...Only problem is that he's had numerous left wrist issues (massive scary looking scars from 4 surgeries) and I'm sure he'll command more than what Holland is willing to pay.

    Kozzie returning to the Wings?

What if he wanted to come back for around $1 million, & finish his career here? I know he's had a few injuries these past few years, but unless I'm wrong I don't think any of them were serious ie - torn ACL, herniated disks, 3rd degree concussions, etc etc...From what I remember Feds was ask on live TV (Versus) if he felt the move away from Detroit was "the right move" - and he took a moment before he answered...That tells me he wishes he would've stayed, but was thinking over his response as to not offend the Blue Jackets. Would I like him back; yeah for the right price, & if he were healthy.

    It's All Fixed

In all seriousness I wonder what the ratings would be if there were a Cup Finals between our beloved Red Wings, & the Maple Leafs...Would any non-hockey fan, or someone who's a fan of hockey, but of neither team take notice of the Original 6 showdown?
  10. Hudler as trade bait? I pretty much agree with these lines for I don't get the impression Holland is gonna go after anyone this summer; then again I've been wrong before.

    should the wings trade kronwall

No doubt! We went from Lilja getting pounded in Philly to Lilja dropping the mitts a few times, & he actually did well It's like his testicles suddenly descended outta nowhere

    Top 30 Free Agents

Sshhhh - not too loud; the Leaf fans don't know Sundin is a Swede

    should the wings trade kronwall

Injuries I'd say would be the #1 deterrant...My only concern is that @ his current injury pace he'll end up like Wendel Clark, or Cam Neely & retire early; never being able to play to his full potential

    Top 30 Free Agents

If Holland has a chance to sign Hartnell - I say he'd be crazy not to! Everybody here hates him because he gets under the skin of his opponents; kinda like what Maltby does now, & Vladdie used to do...This guy on 1 of our top 2 lines would probably be a consistent 25-30 goal scorer, has no trouble playing a nasty game, and has decent defensive awareness. Slava Kozlov = Bert can stay, but def not for the amount of $$$ that the 4th Period thinks he's worth...Big paycut from the $5.2 mill he made last year is in order.

Report: Balsillie gets deal in Hamilton

Yeah it'll take some time for approval for both sale, & re-location of the team...Even though Gary B thinks this may not be such a good idea - I really hope the owners pull their collective heads outta the sand & vote against Gary - though T.O. & Buffalo may be on Gary's side on this 1 I would love to see a new playoff format; 16 teams, but 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, 4 vs 13 etc etc so it wouldn't matter which conference you're in...In essence we could see 2 teams that are from the same region fighting for the Cup where as now it's West vs East. Bettman discarding the old division/conference names for the generic names of today's NHL should've been the writing on the wall for us die-hards that bad things were on the way.

    should the wings trade kronwall

Trade Kronwall? I say NO! Alot of potential with this kid; if Schneider leaves, & Holland cannot find another Dman with offensive potential - it'll be Kronwall taking Schneider's minutes on the pp, & in all honesty this kid has the tools to be a 50 to 60 pts per season player...Now if he can only get rid of that injury bug.
  17. I too was all for the idea of signing Varada; however I believe he's now playing in Europe - the German Elite League I think.
  18. Preach on brother Kp-Wings!

    Kozzie a Wing again?

I just hope I won't get rear-ended while waiting...Remember the flick "TOP SECRET" - 1 little tap to the Pinto bumper KABOOM"
  20. F.Michael

    Kozzie a Wing again?

And if that doesn't work I'll be the guy sitting in the rusty Pinto around the corner wearing the ski mask with the ACME brand bottle of ether at the ready

    Nicklas Lidstrom

H.E. double hockey stick - yeah! Sure guys like Cheli, or Drapes may have more charisma, but IMHO Nick will be a fine Captain.

    Kozzie a Wing again?

Hmm I've been here since yesterday, & I for one don't recall ZDH bashing anyone; so far I've enjoyed his opinions, & banter.

Hased voted the 4th best goaltender ever

Oh man Is it me or did (does) the Red Wings have the largest revolving door for netminders? Wonder if Rosie O'Donnel has any plans next fall if Hasek retires; just think - a beefy/mouthy/lesbian in goal for the Red Wings; sounds like the makings of a Disney flick

Hased voted the 4th best goaltender ever

^ 1 of the funniest things about "Chevy" was that he would make an unbelievable save, & then allow a beach ball to bounce by him...Other than Ranford I think Cheveldae was 1 of the last true "stand-up" goalies that played in the NHL...Anyone know of anybody else that played this style?
