Good God they would look so much better if they got rid of that stupid little *** whale!! I could write an award winning book on how much I hate that whale gritting his teeth. Maybe if they just kept the C then they can look like the Chicago Bears. Anything other than the whale would be an improvement. Oh well it seems the Canucks have had a history of ugly uniforms. Maybe what the team needs to do is just do way with the logos since they all sucked and do like the Rangers or Pens of the mid 90s. Just have Vancouver diagonally across the front. It's simple yet classy. Do way with the med blue and green and go to navy and white. That would look good.

Like almost any other business, they decide what's "popular" and what's not. All they have to do is over hype it and people watch it (i.e. hot dog eating contest and poker or golf I mean Tiger Woods ) plain and simple. While they are building up all of these other "sports" and their "stars", they seem to look down on hockey and usually ignored their stars which only accelerated after Gretzky left. It is becoming MTV with its "Bling Bling" street ball( If I want to watch that I will look out my window) They speak as though Miami is a real sports town and oh yeah, If it is not something New York, Chicago, or Miami/Dallas related, it barely gets talked about. The only time they do give hockey a mention is when they feel the need to discuss its tv ratings by comparing them to poker and reruns of Murder She Wrote for like 5 seconds. Why not give mention to the many great stars in the game, the pace, toughness, and likability of the players? That negative coverage does nothing more than drive fans away from the sport. What is their beef with hockey?

okay I guess. I really hope the Leafs jersey is just a rumor. That thing is hideous. I like the ones they have been wearing the past 15 years. The Canadiens one can't be real either. hope not

What are the Maple Leafs trying to rebuild their entire organization using Redwings? Bring back Jimmy D as an adviser, Howe as..... Maybe they will come to the Redwings and offer them too much to refuse for our entire front office!! Not so sure I believe this rumor. Seems far fetched I hope

Good point. It made me rethink the contents of the "article". The first time I read it I panicked and immediately had a bad feeling about it. Then I saw this blog and realized that it said nothing about Bownan's intentions as it was purely speculation and to some extent wishful thinking.

Nah the ads would mean competition for the organizations which are themselves corporations which use the uniforms and names as their trademarks and marketing tools. Why do you think teams are always changing them every few years in an attempt to make them look better? It's what lures many fans to buy the merchandise or follow a team. Do you think the Oakland Raiders or Chicago Blackhawks would have such large fan bases throughout the continent or world if it were not for their good looking unis and/ or nice nicknames? I think not. All the uniforms would look the same and merchandise sales may suffer as a result not to mention loss of even more fans. I think in the future you will start to see a shift where sport organizations will start having to try and gain back the "hardcore" fan bases (i.e. throwback jerseys and fan forums) which have somewhat diminished during the commercialization of pro sports instead of just chasing after the corporate dollar like they have in the past because they will have to realize that without them, the corpoarates and casual fan disappear.

If this is true then good. The NHL needs the exposure and what better way to get that then getting on the "world wide leader in sports". I hope they can still stay on VERSUS to because I like their coverage of the games much better. I can hear Skip right now saying " what are you kidding me?!!!! what were their ratings? .000000001? or something crazy like that?!! This is stupid!! lets talk about tennis or something!!" Ah well, the NHL has hit rock bottom and will rebound and make people like him look like even bigger asses. Imagine that After all, it is the second oldest league behind the MLB and has endured much struggle throughout most of its existence in fighting for exposure and respect.

I can agree that we do need more North American superstars on this team. It would not surprise me if this part of the reason for declining attendance. This seems to be a league wide problem as there are so many foreign born players fans cannot relate to. It's happening in the NBA as well. It seems like baseball is the only one that can get away with it simply because baseball has been in the American spotlight forever( it was once the most popular sport) and has no competition during the summer months.

Agreed, it would be interesting to see how good Giguire would be without that defense and dirty cheating scumbag team on the ice in front of him. Granted he is not a bad goalie as he makes saves when needed, but I do not believe he is this unbeatable force like what Hasek was in Buffalo (well almost). Case and Point where was Giggy in Calgary? or 04? I hope the Ducks (no fans + no history + a really *** name + no good reason for existence = a meaningless organization) suck it up in 08!

That idiotic call on Datsyuk and the goal by Neidermeyer that proceeded. I felt as if they had hit a bad rut and got a flat tire. After the tying goal, I did not really watch because I knew what was happening next. The Wings after having played a pretty solid game came up flat in over time after one bad call ( looked more like something you see in the NBA than NHL) and turnover. It was one of those season defining moments. Had the Wings just been able to hold on to kill that two man advantage, I am confident they would have won that series. It would have been the nail in the coffin for Anaheim, but instead it was the back breaker for the Redwings. I suspected/knew it then (though refused to believe it) just as I know it today. Every NHL post season series has those moments although some are less noticeable than others

Unless they made it about Bob Probert He was quite an interesting character.

Another thing that annoys me about ESPN is their strong East Coast Bias. It it is west of Chicago, you do not hear about it unless of course it's Barry Bonds related. They seem to think Miami is a real sports mad city as is evidenced in how they r Dan Lebatard of The Miami Herald as one of their big journalists on shows like PTI, Rome, and The Sports Reporters. Remember March of last year? BREAKING NEWS: "Joey Harrington is going to South Beach!" Would they have made such a fuss if he was going to Cincinnati? I can hear it now "Joey Harrington's goin to the Valley baby!! yeah! Bengals in 06! mark my words I just don't get it which is why I try my best to not watch ESPN... unless the Tigers are on

Has any one ever heard Bettman's reason for turning down ESPN and instead going with VS? They give it better attention he says. hahaha It sounds just like some sob story from a woman who never felt fully appreciated. Yeah ESPN is the ladies man and cheater who can get any woman he wants and therefore treats all his women like s*** and taking them for granted. Then you have VS who never had much luck attracting women so he is basically willing to say or do what ever it takes to keep her happy and feeling wanted and needed. He gives her the special attention that ESPN never did. It is better coverage but it is a channel that many either do not get or are too lazy to find or do not want to. When it is out of sight it is out of mind unless you are hard core like us. Sounds like he came up with this reasoning while viewing a movie on the Lifetime network. Now there's an idea. They can sign on with Lifetime and market themselves as the league that has never felt fully appreciated or wanted. Then while watching viewers can sob after having found out that this great sport (arguably the best ever) is seeing its championship series being outdrawn by yet another hot eating contest or pissing into the wind contest who knows? The NHL needs to be back on ESPN. plain and simple.

I hate ESPN with a passion but I can agree that the NHL would be better off back on the network. It is hurting the sport simply by swaying public opinon through bad sport. What's his name Chip... something? called it a sport for idiots or something. I was just shocked and appalled. I just wanted jump through the screen and strangle him. To this day, I will not watch a show on ESPN if I see his ugly face on the screen.

Why they ever put a team in Nashville is beyond me. It's not only a non traditional hockey market but a very small one at that. Okay, so it may be growing but it aint gonna be Atlanta or Dallas- Ft. Worth any time soon. They and Anaheim were two of the best teams in the league last year and they could not even sell out their own home rinks so move them both. I doubt Nashville's fate will have much of an effect on Bettman's legacy because the Predators are only one in a handful of teams in the NHL that fans of any caliber could not care any less about. The only thing that will save Bettman's legacy is sound marketing/exposure( ESPN) and a little luck (big market teams like NYR, Chicago, and Boston becoming consistent cup contenders)

like them better than the all-over star. love the color scheme. I think the dark one would look better with the stars logo on it like the white one does. Other than that they look awsome. It's nice to see that some one finally realized that simpler is better ( i.e. Redwings, Blackhawks, Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Bruins, Rangers, Flyers, Oilers, etc.)

I say da Redwings 200 Predators 0 In all likelyhood Nashville will not be as good next year as they have been the last few which is meaningless considering they are in the same division and those games are often close regardless of the gap. As for the Lions? Brett Favre has never much of a fan of the Detroit atmosphere. Remember 2003? So I guess there could be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Man I sure hope this is some kind of joke! the original logo was an icon. Remember 1992 when everyone had to have a San Jose Sharks t-shirt? Even I had one and a hat to match. It was an instant classic. That supposed "leak" at the top just looks plain ***! it is way to busy or flashy.

How is an organization that has not had a losing season since the 1997-1998 season get such a bad reputation? The current Leafs team which narrowly missed the playoffs the last two years is a far cry from those horrible teams of the 70s, 80, and most of the 90s. The teams that really deserve the criticism are teams like the Blackhawks, Bruins, Capitals, Coyotes, and Kings. I know the Leafs have not won a cup since 1967 ( or even been there for that matter) ,but they have had a few chances over the last 15 years. Remember the conference finals appearances of 1993, 1994, 1999, and 2002? They could have easily advanced to the finals in any one of those years. Had they advanced in any or all of those series, would there still be this much criticism for the Leaf organization? I can agree that they are not one of the league's best run organizations, but I am not so sure I would consider them anything less than mediocre.

ra Nope. I only get this way when I talk hockey. You see I live in North Carolina which is not exactly a hockey hotbed, yet I can remember 10 years ago being able to go to any sporting goods store at the mall and being able to find anything hockey related. Now I cannot find anything despite the fact that we now have a team with a championship under its belt!! How does that happen? There was a time when people were saying the popularity of the NHL might surpass the MLB and NBA and now it is behind golf, NASCAR, soccer, midget porn ... you name it. It would not be this way if it were not for Bettman and the owners being more concerned of the quick money and short term benefits over the long term well being of the league. I know it will rise again once people like Bettman, Wirtz, and Jacobs are gone and for someone like me, that day cannot come soon enough .

Goalies now are way too big. Look at Giguire(spell check recommended). how good do you think he would be minus his huge pads...... and defense in front of him?

Bettman is an ass who knows nothing about hockey. What more can one expect from a silver spoon sucking, Ivy League "educated" lawyer from New York to run the NHL?! Bettman!! Pull your little fat troll shaped head out of the corporates a$$e$, grow a pair, and enforce a rule that requires goalies to wear smaller equipment!! You Waterhead! Try listening to the fans instead of your own twisted sense of logic. Why can't this guy do that?
