Utah? He's going to play basketball now?

The commies...........I mean Capitals, took our spot!

Play in games are stupid. They only exist for extra tickets and TV revenue.
82 games is enough time to give everyone a chance to qualify.

I hope Philadelphia burns to the ground.
And loses another Super Bowl soon.

None of them have had to play most of their careers on absolutely garbage teams. One of them isn't even in the league anymore. Another is famous for being a terrible leader and the guys on his team are a who's who of problem kids. At least two others consistently underperform expectations and have yet to really step up their play when it matters.
Of those guys I'd say Crosby, Barkov and Kopitar are better captains. I'd add MacKinnon to the list as well. Otherwise you've just listed better players, not better leaders.
I forgot your boy Jamie Benn.
Also, is MacKinnon basically the de-facto captain of the Avalanche? He's technically not a captain.
And who are the problem kids?

Crosby
Tayes
Ovechkin
Marchand
Barkov
Kopitar

They've been s*** since Larkin returned also.

That's enough for me. Goodnight, guys. I don't hate this team. I really dislike the GM, Coach, Chiarot, and Petry right now. It's on Yzerman, though. The other 3 are pawns. Yzerman is the guy that needed/needs to make things happen to improve our team. The TDL was a complete MISFIRE. He might have set this team back 2 years with his crappy decision making. That's not a fun thing for a fan to endure.
Nah. They weren't getting anything important for those scraps at the TDL. I agree he should have sold but just to get "something". They weren't getting high picks for s*** players. I'm not sure anyone would even give a 1st for Kane.

Our goaltending and defense are pretty good, no?

Copp would have trouble scoring with a drunken bar girl in Bangkok.

56 minutes ago, kipwinger said:IMO our biggest issues are
1. No 2C that can generate offense
2. Defense is too top heavy defensively
3. Our wingers are too small
Honorable mention that our goalies suck, but life may have been different if Husso's groin hadn't exploded twice.
So you don't think Lalonde is an issue?

I didn’t see past the 1st period last night I just listened to it but heard he had a 3-1 chose to shoot and missed the net. Which is his thing it seems. He’s been playing hard though, just doesn’t have a great finish-or even a relatively good one. Him & Raymond have been our only 2 guys that stood out to me consistently giving an honest effort.
He had two or three odd man rushes. Not the guy ideally you want with the puck in that scenario. Then again, we only have maybe three or four forwards I'd trust on breakaways or odd man rushes. The rest are basically Draper/Helm.

2 minutes ago, kipwinger said:I agree that Compher and Copp have never been big scorers. Neither has Rasmussen. So why criticize Rasmussen for not scoring and not the two guys who score about the same, get paid more, and were both brought on board to play in more prominent offensive roles (2C)?
We could probably criticize every player on this team for something. In fact, we usually do. I don't expect Rasmussen to score more than Copp or Compher. I do, however, expect a 6'6 forward to be more physical than a badminton player.
Rasmussen will always be expected to do more because of his size. That's just the stigma with being a giant. Just think of every large pro wrestler who never became a major star. Those guys get more flak than smaller wrestlers whose gimmicks never made it.

3 hours ago, kipwinger said:Lefty...you're high. First, Rasmussen is roughly the tenth best player taken in that draft and we took him 9th. There was absolutely nothing wrong with that pick. Same for Veleno. Literally nobody "drafted for bottom 6/3 talent". It was hoped that Ras would be a top six player, and he isn't. That why he's only making 3 million bucks next year. He's tied with Raymond for most points during this awful streak of ours, plays against top opposition, and kills penalties. He's a useful player that with middling offense. He's not Valeri Nichushkin and doens't get paid like it either.
You know who you maybe SHOULD point a finger at (aside from SY and Lalonde)? Guys like Alex Debrincat. This dude makes 7.8 million dollars a year and has FOUR even strength goals in his last 50 games. Andrew Copp makes 4X as much as Rasmussen and has the same number of points. JT Compher makes 5 million a year and has 4 points in his last 10 games. By comparison Joe Veleno has 3 points in the last 10 games and makes less than a million. Jake Walman gets top pair minutes is MINUS TEN during our losing streak and looks absolutely befuddled in the defensive zone (so much that he was scratched a few games ago).
If you're looking for problems with this team right now and your finger rests on Rasmussen and Veleno I seriously question your judgement. It absolutely doesn't mean that those guys are above criticism (Ras had a costly penalty yesterday) but overall those guys are more than earning their money and limited icetime. There are a WHOLE bunch of dudes on this team that are not earning either of those things right now.
Compher and Copp have never been big scorers. Their numbers this season aren't a big outlier. I realize scoring is up in the NHL from several years ago. So that's a counterpoint. Debrincat is helpless without linemates. Larkin being out hurt his scoring stats. He doesn't score even strength because he's small, soft, and overly reliant on powerplay scoring. Just like this entire roster. The powerplay is their offense.

5 hours ago, LeftWinger said:If Danielson only becomes a 4C, then it's a waste of a top 10 pick. Waste of a 1st round pick. This is why Rasmussen and Veleno are busts. You don't draft bottom 6/3 talent in the 1st round.
BOTH Danielson and Kasper better be top 6 when they are consistent NHL players. Edvinsson better be top 2-3. You just don't draft (keep these top picks) for them to be bottom anything.
Rasmussen has not earned his contract and Holland blew a #9 pick by drafting him. Not saying he sucks, but he's never played up to his draft position, will be a career 4th line player, and does not deserve the contract. At least Veleno was a #30 pick.
Rasmussen is a "bottom", if you know what I mean. A 6'6 bottom.

12 hours ago, kipwinger said:Seriously, if we don't find an actual 2C in the offseason I'm going to make "Free Dylan Larkin" t-shirts to wear to every game I attend next year.
I cannot believe we've been looking for a 2C since we signed Stephen Weiss and we still don't have one.
You're not happy with Andrew Copp and his DPE scoring numbers?

And there's the death note woooooo
Next year, the excuses are up. If the team missed the playoffs again, I'm fine with Yzerman getting canned (will never happen I know).
Lalonde should be fired now.

This team has been a joke for almost a decade. Can't blame the fans.
Yzerman made a huge misstep during the deadline. And an even bigger misstep by hiring Lalonde. Pizza boy junior needs to make the playoffs an ultimatum next year.

The Ravens need a real quarterback to play alongside Lamar Jackson.
Imagine what they could do then?
