McCrimmon, Salei on board Russian plane crash

Jesus... Galimov survived the crash, but with burns to 80% of his body. Send your hopes and prayers that he makes it, at least.

    Wings sign Ilari Filppula 1yr/$500k

    Didn't see a topic, so I guess I'm breaking it! http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/06/red_wings_sign_finnish_free_ag.html http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/06/filppula_ii_red_wings_make_a_s.html

WCQF Game 3 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Coyotes 2

Just talking with a friend saying how deliciously bored with tonight's game we are. Like, late 90's level bored. The defense is shutting the Phoenix emotional push down, the Phoenix players have to chase the puck down all the time and they're huffing and puffing... Detroit is just picking them apart so efficiently, its like watching that painter guy who painted "happy trees"... was it Bob Ross? I *LOVE* being so amazingly fantastically bored at 12:30am during playoffs. No sarcasm. I seriously love it.

    In Ten Years From Now

Man, 10 years? That's a lifetime in hockey years... lets just take a look at our current roster aged 10 years... Forwards Name Age 10years Justin Abdelkader 23 33 Todd Bertuzzi 36 46 Danny Cleary 32 42 Pavel Datsyuk 32 42 Kris Draper 39 49 Patrick Eaves 26 36 Valtteri Filppula 26 36 Johan Franzen 31 41 Darren Helm 24 34 Tomas Holmstrom 38 48 Jiri Hudler 27 37 Drew Miller 26 36 Mike Modano 40 50 Henrik Zetterberg 30 40 Defensemen Name Age 10 years Jonathan Ericsson 26 36 Jakub Kindl 24 34 Niklas Kronwall 30 40 Nicklas Lidstrom 40 50 Brian Rafalski 37 47 Ruslan Salei 36 46 Brad Stuart 31 41 Goalies Name Age 10 years Jimmy Howard 26 36 Joey MacDonald 31 41 Chris Osgood 38 48 ... I only count 9 players that SHOULD still be playing (i.e. under 40). Remember, getting someone to play into their 40's is a gift, not a give-in. So with all that said... 1) I see us winning 2 cups... IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS. After that, its up to the next round of youth to carry on the winning tradition in Hockeytown... I'll hope for 1 more cup between 5 and 10 years. 2) Yes, but as its been said further up in the thread, he'll be in the same league as Ozzie (for right or wrong). 3) No, I don't think so Kronwall will announce his retirement as a Wing in 2018. You heard it here first. 4) No, I don't think so... but I think he'll still be with us either as a defense coach or in an assistant-GM/head-GM capacity.

Boy, I just love those Ottawa Spartans, don't you?

    The curse of... 21?!

The average between 14 and 27 is 20.5, right? If I had to make my guess, he took 14 and 27, found the number in-between them, and rounded up. As far as curses? Tatar's hockey skills are the skills that will pierce the hockey heavens. I have full confidence that this kid is going to rock socks in a couple years, and then many years more for the winged wheels. No mere number is gonna hold him back!

    Stanley Cup Tix

Actually got 2 standing room only tickets to game 2 of the SCF in 2008 the day of the game via ticketmaster. Wouldn't suggest waiting that long before buying your ticket, but I would recommend standing room only - its like a party 100% of the time. Besides, if you're like me, you wanna stand in anticipation anyway. :3

    Bob MacKenzie

So resort to name-calling to punctuate your dislike of the OP's position? Yeah, that's the way to win an argument... I used to enjoy McKenzie's articles, but in the past year he really has become a top-notch whiner. I think a lot of Wings fans grasp onto him because he is one of the few people in the media outside of Detroit that respects the team- admirable, but like the Wings doesn't give you a green card for whining (from me, anyway). Nowadays, McKenzie pulls for taking hitting out of the game and now applauds the NHL execs for being a good ol' boys club. Its a shame that the NHL execs get immunity when they should be responsible for their actions like everyone else. TL;DR - I bet if Avery sent this email and the NHL brass caught wind of it, he'd be suspended from play for a year, or worse. Why does the NHL Executioner get a pass?

Who will be the whipping boys for '10-'11?

Not throwing them under the bus or anything (we are 8-3-1 right now afterall), but my whipping boys have become Hudler and Modano. I don't like the fact that they're getting special attention when the blue-collar boys that are really working at 110% (Miller and Eaves) are being forced to sit. Just because Huds and MikeyMo are sniper stars doesn't mean you should bench the players that are working their back ends off. Just my 2 cents.

    Class Act Organization

Over the years I've been here (mostly lurking) on LGW, I've learned that 95% of the time, Red Wings fans can disagree or debate about a can of beans let alone big issues... but these kinds of things are the 5% where we really have the capacity to pull together and agree on something :3 I hope and pray for all the best for you and your family, man. It may sound redundant by now, but I've also had family go through cancer... my grandfather at 75. Despite the odds, he fought through and is still with us over here, knocking on 80. I'm sure your bro can pull through, too. Tell him he's practically got all of Detroit rooting for him, now!

    Big Bert 2.0?!?

Didn't see this up, but @DetroitRedWings just posted a link to this in Twitter: http://video.redwings.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=81004&catid=-6 Good to see the boys are having fun and gelling and seem to generally like one another... better to hear about stuff like this instead of the in-fighting you hear about on other NHL teams.

Babs gives Miller a vote of confidence

As per KHAAAAN(!) I am incredibly happy Babs has come to this verdict. I think Miller encapsulates everything you want in a Red Wing - grit, passion, the ability to chip in some points, PK, 2-way game... Who else is excited that its still gonna be Miller Time in the D?

    Howard Changing Masks

Now, how many of you that have said Jimmy's new mask looks like junk are comic book nerds? For me, this is probably the coolest Red Wing helmet I've ever seen. Period. I would also say Jimmy's previous mask was number 2 on my list. It's just different strokes for different folks. I'm a 25 year-old comic book nerd that used to have stacks and stacks of comic books. Dok Ock was one of the coolest villains in the comic book universe... even when the art for him back in the early comic days looked kinda lumpy. For me, I've seen every different combination of winged wheels imaginable... this Dok Ock mask is somthing so far out of the box that I can't even see the box anymore... BUT it still matches the Detroit Red Wing/Octopus theme. Love it, Jimmy!!! Now stop all the pucks! :3

    NHL Rejects Kovalchuk's Contract

Wait, we weren't going in assuming the NHL executives were a bunch of big boneheads? Savard's agent agrees with me. In an ideal world, I hope the NHL goes ahead and cancels the deals with the other listed players, as well as disallow Kovie's contract. I hope it leads to another lockout (again, a lockout that, as it was in 2005, is created by the big, boneheaded NHL execs). I just hope the NHLPA isn't stupid enough to roll over and die like they did in 2005. These guys have plenty of places to play (US/Canadian minor league teams, ALL the european leagues, the KHL, etc.) and I'd love to see the NHL get a taste. Do I love NHL hockey? Hell yes, I do. Do I love the Detroit Red Wings? God let me bleed my team color for a reason. Do I love the idiocy of the NHL executives? Not one bit. We should be rewarding players that want to stay with their team their whole career. We should reward players that want to play for your team more than any other. We SHOULDN'T be punishing them by saying: "Well, sorry X-star player... we know you want to play for us, but we can only afford $3.9 million instead of $5 million." If X-star player accepted that, it'd be 4/5 the amount of money he deserves based against his peers! And before anyone says "ZOMG $3.9 million is SO MUCH MONEEEEEEEY!" keep in mind most hockey players don't have college education (or at least have completed it), so most will deal with either jobs inside the family or friends business and/or low-paying jobs. They are only making this much money during the prime of their careers (unless your name is Ovechkin or Crosby). Taxes when you reach that level of money are astoundingly high. The bottom line is not "the bottom line".

    Kenny done dealing?

I'd *KILL* to have son-of-a-you-know-what back on this hockey club... but his paycheck is WAAAAAAY too high for his skill level. Alas.

    RUMOR: Wings sign Modano

As much as I want this rumor to be true... http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/mike_modano_speaks_to_espn_dal.html ... that's all it is... a rumor. I hope in the next few days it becomes official though.

Looks like Hedberg is holding out in ATL

My first reaction: My second reaction:
  23. Good for a laugh. :3 On a similar note, has anyone's opinion of the Ducks changed now that the majority of ****** bags have retired/moved on? I mean... the only person I can think of that I don't like on the Ducks is Perry... and he's mostly harmless.

    Red Wings With Twitter?

Current Red Wings? Not sure... but I *do* know that Brendan Shanahan uses the tag NHLShanny and the official Detroit Red Wings twitter account is DetroitRedWings.
