And if he doesn't get hurt, it is a win for Detroit. Exactly how does Alfie hurt the team if he went on injured reserve? Any signing has a risk. This is a short term fix that will prevent the team from losing the kids down the road.

What is up with all the crying? It will be a one year deal that won't handcuff the team going forward. If we had Alfie's production in this past playoff run we probably beat Chicago. If anything it would give the Wings someone to win it for, assuming the right pieces come together

I'm pumped if this happens. One year deal, risk free. The guy can still play, can come up big in the playoffs. Perfect one year hold over until some of the youngins are ready to step up into a top 6 role.

People seem to forget how invisible that guy can become. Heis not worth the price tag that would come along with him at all. We need a gritty top 6 forward, not another franzen. Having said that, if franzen was one of the things going the other way, id be all for it. -

I'd pass to be honest. Another inconsistent forward, and it would handcuff the team in cap space. -
This. If one wants to see what Franzens cap hit would be on a shorter term, knock off the 1 mil/year seasons at the end (years and salary) then average what's left. Would be 4.61 mil/year cap hit, not 7.1. That's just insane numbers to come up with.

Trading a 1st round pick for a UFA? A 7th rounder sure. A 6th rounder if you're lucky. Even that would be a conditional pick. But a first? You'd be hard pressed to get a first rounder for Flip (based on this season) at the trade deadline, let alone a month away from a bidding war.
