I love how people are bitching at Modano and don't want him to come because he's thinking about not coming. How petty and ridiculous. This is probably the hardest decision he's had to make in a long time. He's been with one organization for over 20 years and is thinking about doing something he's never done in joining a new team. You're like a bunch of 5 years old who don't get the most expensive present they want at their birthday party. Your posts are being minus'd because by not wanting to sign Modano you basically admit you don't realize how important depth is because Modano would be an incredible depth signing. Without Modano our bottom 6 is average, with Modano it's one of the best in the league. Combine that with one of the better top sixes in the league and you're looking at making a really deep run in the playoffs. Like I said before, we won in 08 because of our depth. We were out in the second round this year because we had none.

Before he got his 4 goal game, he only had 2 goals in 10 games. That's not good enough for Mule, but I'm sure it was only because of his injury. He'll be back next year, hopefully with 40 goals.

I think it's pretty much a given at this point that Modano is going to sign here. But, unless Kenny pulls off a Miracle, we're going to have to dump one forward. I don't think we have the cap space to keep them all and, as it is, (I'm 99% sure anyway), we can't send Ritola, Miller, Eaves, Helm or Appledecker down to GR. So it looks like we'll have to lose one of them. Helm and Abdelkader are givens on the team, obviously. I question your reason if you'd rather lose one of them. I also think Eaves is a shoe in but I included it in the poll anyway, maybe not everyone thinks like me. In my opinion, it comes down to Ritola and Miller, and it's close. I like Miller a lot and I would hate to lose him, but I think his role is the most redundant (while being the least-good at it). Eaves would be the other player in the same role, but he is much better IMO. Miller, I think, has pretty much exhausted his potential, whereas Eaves can still be a solid offensive contributor while being very good on the PK like he was last year. I think it would be a mistake to lose Ritola because he still does have potential, and while he might not get a great chance this year, he can still have an opportunity to show it, especially with injuries that are bound to happen. Plus I would hate to lose him in favor of Miller and see him become a 60/70 point player later on. So in the end I would mind the least losing Miller.

I hope we don't get that many shootouts.

We lack(ed) third line scoring. Do you know anything about hockey or how important it is to have secondary scoring or depth? We didn't win the cup in 08 because Downey played 40 games for us during the regular season, we won because we had incredible depth.

I'm saying 50-60 for this reason. I think he'll be "slow" to start but will ramp it up, and next season will likely hit 60+, if not 70.

This is also one of the reasons I want Modano so much. And I agree with you about Helm and Abds. Our line up looks much better with Modano centering the third line. The wings are the only team interested in Modano. It's either the wings or retire.
