Modano will be a Wing next year. I can feel it in my heart.
-
It has nothing to do with Broduer declining. It's because they play him so much that he's worn out for the playoffs. Look how much better his playoff stats were 2 seasons ago when we only played 33 games versus when he plays 75+.
-
Awesome.
-
G is more of a playmaker.
-
I wouldn't make the trade, but if I was making a new team, you can damn sure bet I'd take Getzlaf over Zetterberg, despite how much I love Z.
-
I'm not expert on Boston's lines/players either, but look at them a little bit if you put those players on the third line than their third line will be better then their second line. could you have a better third line? sure. But without sacrificing players from you top 6? If we sign modano we have one of the best third lines yet a still a very good top 6. We'd be one of the deepest teams in the league. It wouldn't be a horrible line, but it's nowhere near as good as Hudler/Modano/Cleary. You could even argue that we'd have one of the best 4th lines with Helm/Abds/Eaves. End of the day, if we signed Modano we'd have one of the best bottom sixes in the league. If not the best. There is no way a rational person passes it up. Not even Bob Saget would pass it up.
-
I know it hasn't happened yet, I'm just saying I want it to. The forward lineup I just posted is stacked. It doesn't look half as good if we sign some 4th line fighter scrub.
-
He's also trying to sign Modano to a contract. There is nothing wrong with grit (Though a 4th line of Eaves/Abds/Helm will be a hell of a line), but at the expense of incredible depth? No thanks. ..he wouldn't play wing. He'd play.....center. Hudler Modano Cleary 60 goals from those 3 players. Edit: I'm actually now thinking you meant he's not a Red Wing. But still, name me a better third line.
-
Edmonton is a horrible organization. They over pay their players so much because no one wants to go there.
-
So you really think some retard who fights and does nothing else will do more for this team than having the best third line in the league? Do you know anything about hockey? The incredible scoring depth we'd have with Modano will help twice as much as a fight.
-
Oh, how many best third lines in the league do the Wings have? I hadn't noticed any.
-
NEED: Having some physical entertainment for certain people vs WANT: Having the best third line in the league. Is it really a hard choice?

Depends on how much everyone makes. If between Lilja and Modano we spend like 2.3m or under we can do it I think. 2010-11 DETROIT RED WINGS CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / * Modano ($1.000m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) * Patrick Eaves ($0.500m) / * Justin Abdelkader ($0.850m) / * Darren Helm ($0.599m) Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) * Andreas Lilja ($1.000m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / * Derek Meech ($0.483m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 24; CAP:$59.4m; CARRY-OVER PENALTY: $0.050m; PAYROLL: $58.674m; CAP ROOM: $0.726m; BONUSES: $0.000m Plus we'll probably end up waiving Meech.

If we sign Lilja and Modano, this is a successful off season in my opinion, for what we are working with.
-
Thats TWICE I got REALLY excited after mistakenly reading that "pretty much a done deal" with the news posts that the Wings are about to sign Modano.
-
I think Over 50 is asking to much of him unless he ends up seeing a lot of top 6 time which is seriously doubtful, but I can definitely see him getting 20 goals and another 20-30 assists.
-
There is no doubt it is. That third line could potentially get 60 goals. That is cup winning depth. PLEASE GET MODANO KENNY.
-
Yeah, if you can sign someone who last year was pretty much at a 20g/20a pace last year for cheap, you should definitely pass him up. Playing with better players means he could actually hit 20 goals especially for cheap which would be just TOO GOOD. We need someone to validate uk_redwing's choice of arbitrary fanship. That means someone who is only good for fighting. Seriously, if you thought the second round exit had anything to do with not having someone to "keep the flies off our player's backs" you are seriously mistaken. It had to do with our lack of scoring and lack of depth. A "tough guy" would have done nothing. If you sign Modano and put him on the third line with Hudler - Modano - Cleary you have the best third line in the NHL. 60 goal third line? Give it to me. You're a fool to pass it up.
-
No, he's not what you want. He's still capable of being a .5 ppg player and would fit perfectly on the third line.
-
I REALLY REALLY hope the Wings sign Modano. He's a perfect fit here.
-
My thoughts exactly. I really like Miller, but he's redundant. We have better players that fill his role.

Rafalski Considered "top six signings since the 2005-06 season"
Z and D for the C replied to cjm502's topic in General
You mean an objective view of the Rafalski signing? Not influenced by homerism and those who blame him for everything? MUST be wrong. -
If Holland went after Modano, this would be a great off season. He'd still be a great third line center and we'd have the best third line in the league. I'm pretty sure we have the space. DO IT HOLLAND!
-
You're right, there are no more excuses for Filppula. He's going to have the chance, the linemates and (he better have) the PP time. 50 points is a given, if you have any doubt he won't get 50 points you are a fool. That's just the way it is. He had a 50 point pace despite playing half his games with third liners. If Flip gets 60 points (which I know he will, but other can have their doubts, and they'd be reasonable) then I'll just be telling gcom I told you so. If he gets 70, which I think he is very capable of if he plays 2nd line center all year with the PP time, you can damn well bet I'll be gloating.

Lets hope they can recapture that magic.
