Yup. It's a bit satisfying after how the board was when we waived him

Why are people so shocked Howard is playing well? When he's not injuring himself he's generally an all star caliber goalie. I know he's pretty frustrating at times, but this isn't unusual. Didn't he basically pick up Mrazek's slack when Mrazek fell off last year?

Vanek, and Neilsen are way better players then Pulks, Frk and Ferraro so I have no idea what your point is on that.
Also Hockey at the end of the day is a business. If your boss says make the playoffs to generate more revenue, well guess what? your job is to make the playoffs. The 25 year playoff streak might not be important to you, but to the owners it might be.

If there is a top line spot for Sheahan then there is no excuse for Mantha not having that spot. Im tired of this team saddling its top players with bottom six talent just because they have big body.

I know I'm definitely in the minority here, but if it came down to it and we had to give up one of Mantha or Athanasiou in a trade for a high end defenseman like Trouba, I'd trade Athanasiou. I know centers have more value than wingers, but I think Mantha has the higher ceiling. I see AA becoming a 2nd / 3rd line center (possibly even winger), and Mantha becoming a 1st / 2nd line winger. Of course, I'd much rather trade Nyquist or Tatar plus, but unfortunately that probably won't get it done...

    I found this amusing;
After the Wild game where Pookie scored, the post-game show host was listing off the scorers.  He couldn't remember Pookie's name so he paused and said, "That Finnish kid we traded for."
I immediately corrected him, of course, but since I am in my living room and he is a couple hundred miles away he didn't notice.
Then I thought about it.  They bought out Vanek and claimed Pookie.  Pookie has taken Vanek's place on the 4th line.  (Note:  4th line at the end of the season.  I don't remember where Vanek was at the beginning of the season.)
For them, it was almost like a trade.  They sent us a 4th line winger and got a 4th line winger in return.  We, on the other hand, got a 2nd liner who is producing and let go a Press Box Boy.  People may be upset that we didn't get anything in return, but if you consider it as a trade-off, we definitely got the better end of the deal.
And, for the record, the Press Box Boys would be a great name for a band.

Yeah you can't compare teams before the cap to modern teams.  There's no way a team now would be able to have enough players better than those 3 to make them the 4th line, unless they had three rookies making peanuts on scoring lines.  Even then they wouldn't stay together long.

Miller-Glendening-Ott isn't a terrible 4th line.  I might prefer Bertuzzi on one of the wings instead, but like I've said before, with what they have and where they are as a team, it should be Helm, Sheahan, and Glendening, with AA and Mantha on the 3rd line.  Right now, I don't care if Mantha's "earned" it, sometimes the best way to help a kid improve is play him and give him some confidence.  This isn't a Cup contender where dealing with a rookie's growing pains is going to be a deal breaker, it's a rebuilding team and keeping Mantha in GR for even a half season is stupid.

It's funny how people are outraged we couldn't trade any of these guys that got waived then they go on to do nothing for the teams that claimed them but that is irrelevant I guess. None of these guys will be sticking around the NHL for long

Look at Kindl. Shouldn't we be applauding Holland for snaking Florida?

This mess is Holland's fault but it's just a result of desperately trying to make a reasonable trade to upgrade the defense

I'll have to disagree, but of course theres no way of knowing because its all speculation
Larkin, prior to the end of the past season, had never played 82 games in a season before. NCAA teams play roughly 40 games a year, at a decreased level of intensity. Add the travel schedule and pressure of the NHL, and its pretty easy to get winded at the halfway point of the season. I fully expect Larkin to be more consistent this season.

We're calling Jurco and Smith offensive guys now? Based on what? Everyone is so good at pointing out the problems with the team without providing any better solution
We can't score so play Smith and Jurco more who also can't score... Rock solid logic

Not lack of skill in the sense that he couldn't potentially be better, or do more if given more of an opportunity. But it is lack of skill in the sense that he's just not better than the guys who have played above him. Helm and Sheahan are both better offensively than Jurco, as well as better all-around. Everyone else that's played above him is far better offensively.
I'm saying that hasn't happened at all.
For one, he went from being a decent-but-hardly-exceptional highly skilled goal scorer in the QMJHL, to a mediocre scorer in the AHL for a year, then a pretty good scorer in the AHL the next year, to a mediocre scorer in the NHL. Funny to see you of all people talking about junior scoring as if it translates to the NHL.
He may get stuck playing with defensive players sometimes, but he's not used in the same way at all. He wasn't given near the same defensive responsibility that Glendening, Miller, and Andersson got.
And though I've said this often enough to doubt that anyone will pay attention, he spent a lot of time this season playing with players at least as or more skilled than he is.
207 combined minutes with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Nyquist, Tatar, and Larkin. 262 combined minutes with Richards, Helm, Sheahan, Pulkkinen, and AA. 272 combined with Andersson, Miller, and Glendening. Close to two thirds of his total ice time with at least one somewhat skilled player.
