I'm with you... I would have liked to see Drysdale but I understand that he may have been undersized for Yzerman's liking. You couple that with the fact that next year's draft is supposed to be Defense heavy, especially up front, and you can start to see the picture clearer. Raymond was absolutely the best pick at the 4 spot, especially given his performance to start this current season. The defense is shaping up very nicely so far, too. They've have shed some bad contracts and older guys now. Seider, Hronek, McIsaac, Cholowski (if he can get the defensive side tightened up, Albertsson (looking to be a very good pick), Lindstrom (has shown he can be very reliable already), and the vets (Nemeth, DeKeyser, Staal) all paint a picture of a defensive unit on the rise. They're just getting started.

I just can't get around this assertion that Yzerman AND Draper were usurped by Kronwall and Anderson. I don't think anything in Yzerman's history at this level suggests that he would allow something like that to happen and that Draper would just be rolled over given that he was the one making the verbal pick.
-
I don't see that about Bertuzzi... dude is a gamer and will be very important to the rebuild, in my opinion. Abdelkader would have been just fine if he stayed in his lane, that being, a 3rd/4th line grinder with some scoring upside. The ONLY reason you can draw the comparison is because of his one good season on Datsyuk's wing which boosted his stock and allowed Holland to offer him that STUPID contract. Bertuzzi's success is much more widely attributed to his own drive and abilities. I'm not worried about lil Bert.
-
That's right... I think you are reading WAAAAAYYY to much into Draper being "pissed." Draper looked that way for every single pick and I have seen him in past interviews making the exact same face.
-
Sorry about not keeping up, must have been the workday getting in the way.
-
So now we are asserting that Yzerman had no control over the draft because he was on video conference instead of being in the "war room?" Please tell me you're not this foolish. On a shorter-term bridge deal, absolutely.
-
Sure, I get that. Again, there was no 1C talent available in this draft where we were picking.
-
Again, you missed the fact that I'm pretty sure you were crying about the Raymond pick earlier only to then say that we should trade Mantha because we now have Raymond.
-
Gotcha. So suddenly Larkin isn't a 1C? Interesting. Do you honestly think Rossi or Perfetti were going to be 1C talent? Undersized Centers are rarely 1C material. They'd have to be a generational talent to start. I get your argument, but we weren't in a position to draft a 1C this year.
-
Riiight...because that was the crux of my argument. I'm not surprised it went right over your head. I already refuted you. I'll let you get back to your "feelings" on how bad this team is being managed and developed.
-
Sure, be emotional, but at least put some effort into why instead of this ultra negative outlook on practically everything. Now we are starting to dismiss Larkin & Mantha... really? It just holds no water. One person whines about the Raymond pick and then today is now talking about trading Mantha to make room for Raymond? Well, which is it, because if you think Raymond is better than Mantha than it was a pretty damn good pick.
-
It's not about being disappointed in this pick or that pick, but more the response being pretty hollow in reasoning and being constructive with the conversation instead of a constant stream of whining.
-
wow, what an amazing and constructive take. Stay classy.

Haven't been on here in a long time... Seems like whoever the Admins are now, don't want to respond to any messages to try and retrieve my old account. Anyway, reading through the responses in here from the "supposed experts" seems to suggest we've got a bunch of crybabies who know all. So... not much has changed, I guess. wah wah These super fans are unforgiving, huh?

You don't trade Mantha on the heels of his dominant performance at the worlds. That would be foolish. -

The guy is a -143 in his NHL career (just over 5 seasons). Hard Pass. The closest player to his -41 last season was -22 and it's even worse if you just look at the defensemen +/-. Sucks for our offense up front and even worse for our defense. -

Sorry, when I said KHL bias, I really meant Russian bias. Yikes -

Okay, it's probably, at the very least, just as foolish for you to project him at a lower NHL point total. Given that two separate projections that do this type of stuff all the time put him above 50 points, I'm going to side with them over your assumption. He's worth a second round pick, easy. -

I'm really starting to think there is a bias against KHL players here... haha -

Forgot about those options as well, also very solid options if we are to add another winger. I still feel that we should let the kids play, at this point. It's already bad enough that we have Filppula AND Nielsen AND Helm... wish we could trade 2 of them. -

I honestly think Gardiner will cost too much. I'm not sure about Boyle. Personally, if they're going to add a RW and D still, I'd like to see something like this: RW Options: Jason Pominville (could be had on a short term deal, can provide middle 6 scoring) Justin Williams (could be had on a short term deal, can provide some scoring, great locker room guy and leader) Valeri Nichushkin (young, just bought out by Dallas, reclamation project) Jimmy Hayes Devante Smith-Pelly Drew Stafford Michael Ferland Marcus Johansson Ryan Dzingel D Options: Ben Chiarot Ben Hutton Michael Del Zotto -

It seems apparent that they need to deal Nielsen or Helm... Just too many guys who are very similar right now. I'm guessing they don't feel Veleno is ready this season and Rasmussen starts down in GR (which is perfectly fine).
