33 points and a -15.... not exactly banging the door down. When he can show a dedication to playing some semblance of defense, then this contract is worth it, in my opinion. He has the skill to be a 50-60 point player and not be a liability on the defensive side of the ice. So far, he hasn't lived up to the expectation and this team needs a top 4 d-man more so he absolutely should be considered a trade chip along with Nyquist and any of the overpaid players on this roster (which are less likely to be wanted).

I don't like it... I don't think Athanasiou has the work ethic/attitude necessary to elevate his game to that next level. At this point, he's a 40 point max player who will have the occasional breakaway highlight play (but you could already see those highlights lessen this past season).

He's also a waste of a roster spot because, outside of the muscle aspect, the dude isn't a good hockey player. He doesn't contribute anything towards winning games. If he's the reason that a kid doesn't make it, that's just ludicrous.

That's what happens when you fumble almost everything and don't get the guy extended early. The arena issues seemed to be a big part of his decision, too. I wonder if they'll try and bring Kieffer Bellows up this season and have him skip the AHL now. They should sign Kari Lehtonen or if they can get him cheap, Steve Mason.

Yeah, I've said it before, but I would be completely fine getting some assets for Howard if we can. There are goalies on the market that I feel will play just as good as he does and won't cost as much. I would say, go out and sign Lehtonen and Hutton/Khudobin. Or Bernier and one of those other guys. As far as drafting 2 goalies, Holland is just trying to get some more depth at a low-depth position. I have no issue drafting a 21-year-old goaltender that late since goalies take longer to develop and come into their own.

I’m fairly certain Zadina and Rasmussen will make this year’s lineup. I hope all 4 do and Kenny moves some contracts out.

Mantha was raised on NA rinks, that 44 goal season was Zadina’s first on the smaller rink and I think he’s got even more skill than Mantha.

The reality is that Blash won’t roll four lines like that. In your scenario, AA, Svech, and Bert would get 8-10 minutes a night and that’s a joke for three offensively gifted youngster with lots of energy. Abdelkader should never see top 6 time. He’s a bottom 6 forward. I’d rather Svech learn while playing alongside Zetterberg than alongside AA who has proven that his work ethic is questionable at times. I get what you’re saying about Svech staying in the AHL another season, but find it funny you followed that up with having him in the lineup anyway.

I think we are a rebuilding team and sometimes you give guys a chance. Svechnikov in his time last season played a very sound game. He didn't set the world on fire, but he also didn't play jack for minutes or any time on the man advantage. You asked a question, I'm just giving my answer. I'm sure as s***e not putting Abdelkader or Helm on the 2nd line, so in that scenario, what do you do? Shun the kid to crap minutes or let him learn from Zetterberg? Quit acting like we are the 2010 team and consider that times change and they need youth to take steps and grow.
